Hi Ladies!

We are getting married on 5/19/12 hopefully downtown Milwaukee and are running into some frustrations. We want a unique wedding and not have it be the typical ceremony, pictures, cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing kind of wedding. I feel like all the weddings I have been to were fun, but nothing really stood out in my mind. I want people to leave my wedding remembering something special.

So, what is it about a wedding that you remember most? I know for a lot of people it is the entertainment, as that can make or break a wedding, but I am also looking to see what I should put more of my budget into to make my wedding special.

I guess we are just torn between having the typical wedding that everyone assumes us to have, or having something totally unique that surprises everyone that they have never seen before. Ideally, we would like to have a good mix between the two :)

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I know I already asked about Veterans Terrace, but they were WAY to expensive, so my FI and I are now looking at some new venues and want to know if any of you ladies have ever been to a wedding at these locations, or looked at them. We are looking at the DeKoven Center as our main option right now. Maybe the Riviera in Lake Geneva ( I went there once in High school and have a picture of the Angel on the Fountain) and it looks amazing, I'm just afraid with how pretty and amazing it looks that it will come with a hefty price tag. Any advice will be helpful. We are really trying to stick with our caterer because their price for the food and cake is an amazing price we cannot pass up. TIA!!

Hi Ladies!

My FI and I are getting married in Las Vegas (ceremony at Ceasars Palace, Reception at The House of Blues in Mandalay Bay) so I tend to stick to the Las Vegas board.

I am here because FMIL is hosting an AHR for us since some of FI's family will not travel, soooo I plan on spending some time over here, too. I look forward to getting to know you all!

Our AHR date is June 2, 2012 :) It will be outdoors in a park, and probably pretty casual. I am excited to share ideas here!

ETA: we have a 6-month old and that is him in my siggy

My wedding is in Waukesha next May. We have pretty much everything figured out already (we're planners!) except the DJ and photographer. I don't know a thing about wedding photos, and I was put in charge of getting prices. I know that photographers do packages, but what does that mean? Do they sometimes only take pictures at the ceremony and not the reception? I would love to hear some examples of what you ladies had. I don't need to know what you paid, but when I go to these photographers, I want to know what to ask for to suit our needs. Whatever those may be... Thanks!

Choosing Ceromony Readings (Long)

I was on another board earlier and it got me thinking about our ceromony readings. We have a whole bunch saved in a word doc. of our favorites and are having a hard time now trying to decide between them (especially now that I found another really nice one). We are looking at having only two readings, and want them to be about REAL love, and not all mushy. Here are our top contenders. Help me pick?

(1) This is the first we chose: “They say they will love, comfort, honor each other to the end of their days. They say they will cherish each other and be faithful to each other always. They say they will do these things not just when they feel like it, but even -- for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health -- when they don’t feel like it at all. In other words, the vows they make could hardly be more extravagant. They give away their freedom. They take on themselves each other’s burdens. They bind their lives together... The question is, what do they get in return?
“They get each other in return... There will always be the other to talk to, to listen to... There is still someone to get through the night with, to wake into the new day beside. If they have children, they can give them, as well as each other, roots and wings. If they don’t have children, they each become the other’s child.”
“They both still have their lives apart as well as a life together. They both still have their separate ways to find. But a marriage made in heaven is one where a man and a woman become more richly themselves together than the chances are either of them could ever have managed to become alone.”
-- Frederick Buechner

(2) Love is a temporary madness; it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of eternal passion. That is just being in love, which any fool can do. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Those that truly love have roots that grow towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossoms have fallen from their branches, they find that they are one tree and not two.

–Louis Bernieres

(3) You have known each other from the first glance of acquaintance to this point of commitment. At some point, you decided to marry. From that moment of yes, to this moment of yes, indeed, you have been making commitments in an informal way. All of those conversations that were held in a car, or over a meal, or during long walks – all those conversations that began with, “When we’re married”, and continued with “I will” and “you will” and “we will” – all those late night talks that included “someday” and “somehow” and “maybe” – and all those promises that are unspoken matters of the heart. All these common things, and more, are the real process of a wedding.

The symbolic vows that you are about to make are a way of saying to one another, “You know all those things that we’ve promised, and hoped, and dreamed – well, I meant it all, every word.”

Look at one another and remember this moment in time. Before this moment you have been many things to one another – acquaintance, friend, companion, lover, dancing partner, even teacher, for you have learned much from one another these past few years. Shortly you shall say a few words that will take you across a threshold of life, and things between you will never quite be the same. For after today you shall say to the world –This is my husband. This is my wife.

-Robert Fulghum

So there would be loose hair. I also think the headband would look good in that same area that T.Swift has her's. More than likely my veil will be going in the back of my hair like the one in the top photo, since my veil is going to be a fingertip one since I am tall bride and the cut on my dress makes the veil look better with a fingertip veil. I trust Wisconsin people's opinion more than anyone elses! Thanks for the help!
