Hi all!

My fiance and I are doing a destination wedding in May 2011 and plan on having an AHR sometime in August/September 2011. We've narrowed our park search down and will be having my fiance's cousin cater the AHR. However, we do want to have a pig roast. Any recommendations on who we could use that won't cost an arm and a leg??

Our wedding is 12/23/2011 in Milwaukee. Not sure what we want yet but looking for a REASONABLE instrumental group that can play for our ceremony and during dinner at our reception. Not a big fan of violins...love guitar, harp, piano, banjo etc. Any ideas?

So excited to have Rachel Buckley be doing my engagement pictures next weekend.

I am going for a vintage/antique feel for my wedding, so would love to portray that in my engagement pictures as well. Does anybody have any location suggestions?

Also, how do pictures go with Rachel? Are they posed a lot or does she just capture spur of the moment pictures? Not really sure what to wear either!!

So, if you have any input on engagement pictures (and Rachel), let me know!!

I am just starting on all of the planning (been engaged 2 weeks). Looks like an April wedding, and the venue is a go. My mom will be coming into town in Early October for dress shopping and I am looking for suggestions on a few places to go to in order focus the search. Key things - I am looking for simple, clean lines (no sparkly princess ballgowns for me) and I need to find a place that carries larger sample sizes (I am a busty, tall, size 18-20 - and the girls just ain't going to fit into an 8!). ;) Thoughts?

I applogize if someone has asked this before, I searched the board but didn't see anything. Has anyone used FSI Catering in Milwaukee? They are on the list for the war memorial. Just had the tasting last night. Pretty good food. Not as good as Zilli, which is the other caterer we're considering, but like 4K cheaper! So I'm looking for some reasurance from others that have hired them.

Has anyone gone with a friend instead of hiring a DJ? We're thinking about making a huge playlist and bringing back up MP3 players/Laptops and putting a friend in charge of playing the music, maybe having them or a family member announce us for the the grand march, first dance and toasts.

Has anyone done this, planning on doing this or been to a wedding that has?

I'm wondering how well it will work out.

I posted this over in the "Pre-Wedding Parties" forum, but wanted to get a Wisconsin take. Sorry if you see double...

About 90% of our wedding guests are out-of-towners. Since many of our guests aren't familiar with the area, we wanted to provide the OOT people some place to hang out together. We've reserved a floor at a bar near the hotel so that family/friends can go out to a bar, but avoid the crowd of strangers. However, we are only providing the space--we're not paying for drinks.

For now, we're putting the info on our wedding website. How would you word this so people understand that it isn't a hosted gathering, but rather an alternative to hanging out in someone's hotel room?

ETA: We reserved the room for the night before the wedding in case people arrive the day before.

Non-denominational Church in Green Bay

We're getting married in Green Bay and just started looking at Churches, it seems like some have a lot of rules about the ceremony, music and decorations. We don't want to do anything crazy, just a simple ceremony, with a unity candle, rose petals on the aisle and more options for what music can be played. I'm protestant and he is catholic so we were looking into a catholic church where we could bring in a protestant pastor and incorporate something from both, but I don't think that's going to happen. Any suggestions?

Zilli's Catering - Charge for GLASSWARE?!

We're getting married at the Domes in late fall 2010 and Zilli's Catering just informed us that there's an extra (extra as in $3.50 PER GUEST, extra) charge to use glassware in our reception, rather than "high quality disposable glassware".

Has ANYONE ever heard of an extra charge to use real glassware at a wedding reception? We're really turned off by this and are considering other options, despite having several deposits with the Domes and Zilli's.

Also, what would you say to negotiate with the caterer, if you were us? We already told them that we feel this charge is exorbitant, based on our impression of them as an "upscale caterer" and our assumption that this would be in included service...to which they basically said "too bad".

Any suggestions or personal experience related to this problem could provide would be awesome!

Officiant suggestions for Racine wedding

So I'm down to cake and officiant for the major decisions to make yet! I'm looking for any officiant references or even if you just have some tips on how to pick an officiant, that would help. I have the Racine County list of judges and commissioners but I was hoping to avoid just calling everyone on the list. Do most of these people have video of ceremonies they've done or something? I just don't know where to begin with this one!!

Dog friendly hotels/motels near downtown MKE

So....my 14 yo cousin who is standing up in our wedding (she is from detroit) texts me today and asks if there are any dog friendly hotels/motels near us (the wedding and reception is at the War Memorial).

I looked online but most places have apet limit of 75 pounds. They have an Akita~ I am guessing he is between 100-125 pounds. Ummm yeah...suggestions please!

We have two dogs (reb bone coonhounds that are 46 and 56 pounds). They go to doggy day care and are used to being in a cage when we aren;'t home. My cousin's dog, from what I know has never been kenneled and spends a lot of time outside. Help!

Hey ladies I could really use some help and your recommendations!

I am having my wedding in Appleton at Riverview Country Club, but I live in Eau Claire (I was raised in Appleton and my whole family still lives there)
Since I will have to make the trip across the state to meet with vendors I want to make sure that I don't waste my time with bad ones.
I am looking for suggestions on baker, florist, transportation and dj.

Is it bad to leave out the fact that it's a wedding?

I've been told a two people now that when you are talking to caterers to leave out the fact that you are having a wedding because their prices are more expensive for weddings then they would be for a large party.

Is this wrong? I haven't done it yet, I don't know if I can I would feel like I'm lying

It makes sense though, some places are more expensive for weddings. If we're doing a buffet or Hors d'oeuvre they would have the same options for a wedding or large party right?
