Filler flowers for Orchid Centerpiece..

Hey all. I'm doing tall red-mokara orchid centerpieces. I'm buying them bulk from Fifty Flowers. Due to the cost of the orchids, I'd like to use a filler flower to make sure the centerpieces look full without spending a fortune! I'd like them to be a "hot" color-- preferably bright red,pink or orange and have a lot of blooms for volume. I've been looking at gladiolus, stock, limonium.... any other suggestions? i could use all the help!

Has anyone recently wed in Omaha, NE and used a florist that they actually loved and who wasn't over priced? I understand flowers are not cheap but any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Names of anyone you worked with too would be helpful. There are too many to choose from!

Other white flowers for a white bridal bouquet

Hi Ladies,

I currently have ivory roses, stephanotis with rhinstones and white hydrangeas. I'm not crazy about the hydrangeas. Do any of you have other recommendations of a flower that will mix well with these two? I thought about mini callas but they they stand out a bit because of their top point. I want my bouquet to be all round.

Centerpiece idea

So for my May wedding next year Im thinking of making my own centerpieces. I home can, so I have tons of mason jars ( and alot of the old blue ones from my gramma!) I was going to use mason jars filled with flowers (tulips in one, daisys in another, ect) I havent decided on fake or real flowers yet. Im not sure if the table needs anything else. There will be a small favor on each place setting, and there will be a combination of round and rectangular tables, but I feel like it needs something else. Any ideas, let me know!

I'm planning a May 2012 wedding in Newport, RI. We are going with a Nautical theme with colors of Navy, Yellow and White. I would like to do yellow flowers but I can't find a flower I like to tie in with the nautical theme. Does anyone have any ideas? If I have to I may have to go with white flowers instead.

I am having these flowers along with others in my bouquet. However, somebody told my mom that these flowers tend to wilt and turn brown being out of water for only 20 minutes. I highly doubt this but it has my mom worried. Does anybody know if this is true?

If it is true, it's hard to believe because so many bouquets have these flowers, especially hydrangeas.

DIY bouquets

a friend asked me today about DIY bouquets and i'm not sure how to answer her- as i have not gotten to that part of my planning yet.

When making your own bouquets, how soon in advance do you buy your flowers?

If buying from Sam's Club/ Costco- can you special order flowers? - if so, how?

Her wedding is in May, she went to Sam's club and loved their selection, will those flowers still be available in May or should be special order?

Any other info you feel is helpful... TIA

Bridal vs Bridesmaids

My dress is ivory, the bridesmaids will most likely be in black(my colors are black, white and ivory). So what do i do with flower bouqets? I want mine to be different but am concerned that they may end up looking the same. My dress has a few feathers so i was thinking maybe adding a subtle hint of feathers, but as far as colors i have no idea! Please help!

I'm trying to decide between 2 florists and am having the hardest time. Flowers are one of the more important things to me and I have a specific idea of what I want, so I'm being way more picky about this choice than I normally would be. My main requirements are that my arrangements be full and pretty big, and that they display all my colors well (lavender, light blue, and white)

So.... who would you pick?

Option #1
-More expensive (would be a bit over our budget)
-Not well-known on my local board but has tons of incredible reviews on other websites (weddingreports.com, weddingwire.com, etc)
-Doesn't have any bad reviews
-The large, full centerpieces that i'd like may be a bit smaller than what I originally wanted
-Will not provide a prototype/sample for free

Option #2
-Cheaper (by about $300-$500- would be right on budget)
-Recommended by 90% of the girls on my local board, but doesnt have as many good reviews on other websites
-Florist is able to do the large, full centerpieces I'm looking for (so the size I want will not be compromised)
-A couple things that concerned me: 1 girl said her flowers were wilted when they arrived (although it was 90 degrees that day and this girl still recommended the florist). Another girl mentioned that one of the flowers in her arrangements were the wrong color (this is concerning to me because my whole wedding has been planned around my colors)
-Will provide a prototype/sample for free

Both florists will be using the same variety of flowers that I discussed with them. I've met with both of them and felt comfortable speaking with both. And I think that both of them had a good grasp of what my vision is.

Pocket Square Boutonnieres?

I came across a different kind of boutonniere then the norm and I was wondering if anyone has gotten one of these before or what you think of them? Do you know any men that have worn them? I'm wondering if they liked them better then the usual boutonniere.

There are six chandeliers in my reception venue- in the middle two, I am planning on draping garlands of flowers from them- has anyone else done this at their venue?

Ordered bouquets for myself, my BMS and also ordered corsages, bouts, and hairflowers from Etsy. The seller had sent me a sample flower in the mail and the flower felt crazy real. So the seller just sent me mock-up pictures of my order and i am so excited to see my bouquet and the other items. I cant wait for it to arrive so that i can see it in person! I love the look of big bouquets of baby's breath....it's very rustic and earthy. My bouquet will have succulents, dahlias and peonies. I really want baby's breath for my bridesmaids, but I don't know if that will look cheap. I've been seeing it more and more on wedding blogs, but is that weird? Thoughts? Be honest!

boutineers for groomsmen in military dress? also posted in Etiquette

My future brother in law and one of my other groomsmen are in the military. I was wondering if they are able to still wear a boutineer if they wear their dress uniform? I asked my florist and she said no but my matron of honor who asked her husband said yes. Her husband is an ex marine. I sent message to both of the groomsmen to ask them but I have not heard back from either of them yet. Does anyone know the answer for sure? Or know where I can find the answer? Thank You!

I'm currently looking for wedding flowers and I am completely in love with white peonies for my bouquet (think my florist can get them for me in Sept-to be confirmed!) but I'm struggling with flowers for my bridesmaids. I want all of us to have white flowers but I want the girls to have flowers to compliment my bouquet but nothing too matchy matchy!

DIY Flowers - Need Help

Is anyone making their own flowers? I selected lilac for our accent color. Girls will be in black dresses and the groomsmen will be in a black tux with a silver vest. I'm having such a hard time finding silk flowers in the color I want for our wedding. I want to cry as with just over 3 months to go, I may be looking at having to pick another color for our wedding, which I definitely do not want to do. I'm going tonight to check other craft stores. I've already hit a bunch. Anyone know of or used a reputable website to order silk flowers?

Blue Flower Petals

I'm looking for fake blue flower petals... Joann Fabric and Michaels dont have royal blue. My florist says dying them would leave the flower girls hands blue, and there aren't many blue flowers that have nice petals.

Where can I find blue flower petals?!?!
