Our venue offers chiliean sea bass pan seared, finished in a tomato sambuca sauce as an option to serve our guests. We love chiliean sea bass and were super excited. The coordinator seemed surprised and said not many people would choose that. Im wondering if our guests would like this as a choice or are we the only ones? Haha I guess what question is is.. How many of you would choose this if you were a guest?

Our other choice we like is chicken saltimbocca ( boneless breast topped with spinach, prosciutto, and provolone cheese in a sage wine sauce).

do we just have strange taste or doesn't sound good to anyone else?

One of the things I've always wanted at my wedding is a dessert bar, but now as we're actually in the planning stages I could use some advice! We're having an evening wedding in September '13.. planning to be married with just enough time to squeeze in some pictures before the sun goes down and party till dawn, or at least for a while :) Our wedding will be laid back in the country, we make our own beer and wine and will probably have a small selection of liquor&mixers available.

With the wedding being so late in the day we're thinking people will most likely have eaten already, and are debating on only doing a dessert bar as it would save quite a bit in catering expenses. My thoughts are that I would like some 'dinner' type food available to help counteract all of the drinking, even if it's just bread rolls, crackers&cheese, veggies etc. If I have some foods available do I need to have a full dinner? Would only having appetizers/finger foods be adequate with the dessert bar?

Any suggestions?

I'm trying to figure out how much the bar should cost per person for a five hour reception. Most places we were looking at charge about $20 for top shelf open bar including tax and gratuity, the next most expensive being $26. However, the place we liked the most charges $31 a person, and they want an extra $1 pp for imported beer. This seems crazy to me, especially since a few of the other places offer more for the $20 price. I'm not sure what the bar should cost though, or how I can negotiate their price down, especially since they came down really easily on the food prices but seem kind of insistent about the bar price.

And feedback on the food? Are there any other recommendations for venues with great food in the area? Westchester, NYC, outer boroughs?

Thanks!

I have a lot of time left to plan my wedding, but I've talked to a few bakers already. I'm pretty sure its because my fiance loves eating cake and they always offer up samples. Anyhow. Every single baker we have talked to cops an attitude when I inform them I hate fondant and I don't want it anywhere near a cake I purchase. I hate fondant because I think it tastes horrid and I also think it looks plasticky. I just want a cake slathered in a ton of buttercream that looks like my grandma baked it and just screams "EAT ME!!" you know? Every single one of these bakers has also insisted "well you haven't tried OUR fondant!"

Why are bakers so weird about this?

My dad has also offered to bake the cake (he is a professionally trained pastry chef and has access to a commercial kitchen) but I honestly don't want to put the stress on him about the stupid cake. I also am starting to doubt any baker can make a cake as delicious as my dad though.

Anyway, I was just curious if anyone had insight to why bakers act like I am insulting their mothers when I say I do not want fondant?

I would love to have this incoporated into our cake topper, as we aren't having a grooms cake and this is a great way to highlight this part of our life.

First option is this one:
http://www.karanaweddings.com/cake-toppers/honeymoon-bound-couple-in-car-cake-topper
I like it but don't love it.

Second option is getting a model of his car, such as this:
http://www.fallingpixel.com/pontiac-gto-6.0-obj-3d-model/10089
(but in his color of midnight blue metallic) and adding the cans behind and 'just married' or something else cute (and shorter) on the licesnse plate.
If I went with this option I would keep it a secret and have it be somewhat of a surprise for him. This is theonly model of his car I can find online -- he's been looking for a replica model for the last two years since he got the car, and has never been able to find one.
My only hang-up here is that the other one features the bride and groom, which is nice.

Any opinions would be wonderful! The reception will be pretty casual, dinner and cocktail hour will be outdoors weather permitting. For dinner we're having a hog roast with lots of sides, and we'll have lemonade, soda, tea, beer, wine and alcoholic/non-alcoholic slushies. We're doing antipasto for a late night snack.

I'd like to keep cocktail hour pretty simple so we can just do it ourselves (caterer does the meat ONLY, we're purchasing our sides separately). I went to a wedding once where they had different snack mixes at cocktail hour, and I was thinking about going that direction.

I'm thinking- Puppy chow (muddy buddies)

Ranch oyster crackers

Goldfish crackers

Animal crackers

What else?

Then maybe fruit or something? I was planning on having a veggie tray with dinner, would it be better here instead? If I don't do fruit here, I will serve it with dinner instead. Any thoughts are appreciated!

I'm doing cupcakes (along with another dessert) and was planning one per person, but from feedback in here and IRL, I'm worried people might eat two or three cupcakes. The cupcakes will be on a tower and people will be able to help themselves, so I'm worried some people will take more than one, leaving some people without a cupcake. Would it be rude to have a server at the cupcake line there to make sure people only take one? Or is it rude to limit how many people can eat?

I'd get two or more per person, but one cupcake is already $4 per person. I've been exploring other cake options (like getting a regular cake, but my venue already has a steep cake cutting charge, which does not apply to cupcakes). I just can't afford to offer more and I haven't found a cheaper bakery yet :( Any advice?

I am doing a rustic fall themed wedding in late September. Our wedding is in a barn and is being catered by a BBQ restaurant. I was looking to go keep up the theme and thought doing a tiered pie instead of a cake would be cute...any thoughts?? Has anyone done a tiered pie? If so, what was the pricing for it? Thanks!!!

We are stocking our own bar for our reception that is out at a barn. Is it tackey to serve beer out of kegs? When I think of kegs I think of college frat parties, but they kegs would be hidden behind the bar and it will cut our beer cost in half.

We are planning to serve:

- one type of red and one type of white wine (any suggestions on this?)

- margaritia

- a mixed wiskey drink (possibly a wiskey sour... my FI and I both drink wiskey straight... what other wiskey mixed drinks are out there lol)

- 3 beers- a corrona light or harp, something a little bit darker (maybe a sam adam or a yuengling), and then a guinness (I know it's darker then most people drink but my family is Irish and I keg of it will be gone by the end of the night). We were thinking about serving Harp, Smithwicks, and Guinness but decided alot of our guest might perfer to have a choice fo more american beers.

- then we would also have the tequila and wiskey for people.

- we will also have soda (probably coke, diet coke, and sprite), water, and ice tea

Would you be happy with this at a wedding? Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

I'm getting married in England, in a 15th century coaching inn. The restaurant is run by an amazing chef who has said he's willing to cook anything we like. My FI and I both want touches of American and British through-out the wedding so for the cocktail hour we're serving British pub food: mini fish & chips, mini Scotch eggs, mini toad in the hole, etc. As we were reviewing our dinner options, my FI suggested we serve "American food" since 99% of the guests will be English and the American food will be somewhat exotic. Awesome, except I can't figure out what "American food" is. My only idea is steak.

I'm a picky eater - I only eat certain cuts of beef, no poultry, and lots of seafood. Do you have any ideas for food that seems "American-y" and is suitable for a wedding? No corn dogs, nachos, or anything like that. One idea is lamb but I don't eat lamb and that seems very English too. Help?

so i went to my first wedding cake place to get a quote on this crazy thing i wanted for a cake. i took in my cake topper and everything i was told i needed over the phone. there they told me to get a quote i'd have to see the owner cause i wanted something really different. and to call and schedule an appointment with her for the first of the year.

we tried to do that today and they told us we can't get an appointment with her unless we pay a deposit first. and this is the same person who told us to make the appointment on saturday.

i'm really peeved about this, because my mom and so really liked the cake, but i'm not paying $50 to be told they can't do it. or that it's going to be $15 a serving. is this common practice? or are they just being a pain because they don't want to do it or what?

My fiance and I were wanting to get our wedding catered by Moes, its southwest style food. Tacos, burritos, restaurant style tortilla chips and salsa, etc. I am not sure about this though because I feel that if people were eating with their hands would not keep our wedding as formal as I would like it to be. Plus, eating with hands tends to be messy, especially for children. Opinions?
