Hello ladies :)

I am trying to decide between three options for a late night snack at my end of September wedding and I would love your opinions! We are having a full dinner with apps and cake that will be over at 7pm. We have the option to bring out one of the following later in the evening: Mini burgers and fries, ice cream sundae bar, assortment of cookies with milkshake shooters....which would you want and why?? As a background, the ice cream bar is vanilla ice cream with multiple toppings and the cookies have four different flavors( choc chip, peanut butter, oatmeal raisin, white choc macademia nut)...Thanks!!!

1. Champagne toast.. skip it or have to have? I plan to have champagne as a beverage option all night (this is my beverage of choice at wedding) but the rental costs of the champagne glasses and the extra bottles for a formal toast is much higher than I thought.

2. We are doing a buffet dinner and we can't decide whether or not we are doing a plated salad or having the salad as part of the buffet. Our salad station would look like this:

Mixed Greens, Spinach and Arugula with roasted pears, gorgonzola, red peppers, grape tomatoes, dried cherries, toasted walnuts, all arranged in bowls with choice of dressings to include pear balsamic, herbed crème fraiche or other dressing of choice

If we did a plated salad, we would make up a salad with some of these items, minus the walnuts because of one of my BM's has a nut allergy. I can't decide, because I like all of these items, but I know others will not. I feel like it could speed up the process if we had a plated salad, but dinner could get started earlier if we didn't have one..

3. Silverware, wrapped in cloth napkins and at the buffet, or set at the table? I didn't think of these, but they are things that my caterer has asked me..

Thank you!

So, I was thinking about different ideas for a Grooms Cake, and since my FI loves zombie movies sooo much I thought it would be neat to make one for a surprise.
But here's my dilema...
I've looked around Ebay...Etsy...Google for random sites and can't seem to find a site that sells the cake toppers at a reasonable price. They are all over $100 and I was hoping to find a set that wouldn't cost that much.
Anyone have any ideas where I could buy a set for a Zombie themed Grooms cake at a decent price?

I'm a bit nervous with our venue's food. At the food tasting, I'd say that 20% of the food tasted good... the rest was pretty bland, or overcooked, or dry. I'm not a picky person and I usually eat anything, and my dad is even less picky than me (even ate my burnt pudding so I didn't have to throw it out, lol!) and even he didn't like some of the dishes! It's too late to back out now since we already gave them $5000, so that's not an option. I have read reviews and all of them raved about how good the food was, so I'm thinking that maybe the tasting just wasn't that great for us.

In your experience, how did the tastings compare to the food served on the day of? Was it better, worse, the same?

Thanks!

Not sure if this has been asked before- didn't see it if it was- sorry!

How early do you recommend doing a cake tasting? We have no idea what kinds of cake flavors let along fillings to choose to try. My friend who makes wedding cakes and is going to make ours says to take our time and pick anything out we can think of and she can make it for us to try but I feel like that is so broad- where to even start? I asked her but she said just think of anything!

Also, on a related food topic, how early did all of you pick out your menu options? We just picked out our venue and the contract is being sent for us to look over, and this place is also really open about whatever we want them to make, they can make.

So I guess overall the question is, how early do you do tastings, cement flavors/fillings, and cement a menu? If it helps, our wedding is Oct. 5th 2013, so a little bit over a year away.

Our other option is to pay by consumption, but the prices are still high, 4.99 ofr budweiser and more for wine and liquor,

Should we just buy the packages and hope the people who will drink more will make up for the non drinkers? or pay by consumption and only have limited options, like certain beers, wines, and a signature cocktail

Pure Kitchen Catering did not make us feel that their company really was determined to go above and beyond to make our wedding extraordinary. They made us feel like a smaller job, delegated to inexperienced staff, and that our legitimate concerns were not worth a proper, professional resolution.

We heard from our guests that they were impressed with the food at our wedding; it surpassed their expectations. Sadly, the service did not surpass ours. Communication and day-of service was extremely poor.

We chose Pure Kitchen because we felt that they understood our vision and passion for an innovative wedding meal. In the end, communication turned out to be the most important factor. We met with Joshua and Dan a number of times throughout our planning process, and I appreciated that they both attended these meetings. Communication outside of these in-person meetings, however, resulted in errors, delays, and excuses rather than solutions.

1. Communication throughout our planning process was inconsistent and frustrating. When we first signed on with Pure Kitchen, they told us that new customers would get a 24 hour response time (which we did), and existing customers could expect a 48 hour response time. On average, it took our planner Dan 7 days to respond to any email, and those responses were usually prompted by a follow-up inquiry from me and started off with an apology and/or excuse. We tried very hard on our end to have everything decided and done at least one week ahead of time; it was incredibly frustrating to be haggling over a final $17 with 24 hours to go.

2. We would have appreciated an immediate greeting, and consistent attention. No one introduced themselves to us, or made a point to make sure that my husband and I had what we needed at all times. As the person in charge of the event, we would especially have appreciated a greeting, check in, or even a goodbye from Dan. We received none of the above: he waved to us from across the room after we sat down, and that was the last we saw of him all night.

3. The rest of the wait staff was courteous and helpful, and many of our guests commented on the friendliness of the bartenders. But when we and our parents sat down at our table, it took a good 5 minutes to place our drink order, and that was only after one of our guests flagged down a server at our request, and asked the server to come over to us. (The head table is kind of hard to miss.)

4. Dan promised me via email that he was waiting for final answers from the chef on some final questions we had about the ingredients for our food, based on our experience at the final tasting. These questions were never answered.

5. We were also extremely disappointed that a vegetable dish was completely omitted. This wasn't a last-minute add -- it was one of our requests from the beginning. Not to mention, it was a dish that was quite meaningful to us, as part of our story! In fact, when we asked two separate servers when it was coming, each said it would be coming out shortly. It never showed up, and there has been absolutely no explanation as to why.

6. We were charged $6 per “bowl” of berries, which amounted to a ramekin per table. This was also supposed to be the non-gluten dessert option for our guests.

7. Our custom-designed cake looked awesome – if you overlooked the four fingerprints right in the middle of it. The cake sat out for hours on the dance floor. For anyone other than my husband & I to have a piece, each guest had to carve it off for themselves.

8. The end of a wedding is a good time for someone from the professional side to look out for the customers, i.e. the bride and groom, and take just a little more time to make sure they go home happy. We were charged for to-go containers, but no one from the staff made certain that we left with any of our leftover food, and Joshua confirmed later that there had been extras.

Our expectations were not met, and food that we pre-paid a good amount of money for was not served. We requested a refund, which Joshua promised he would look into. He then chose to pretend that we had forgotten about the whole thing. When we followed up, he promised a check would be in the mail shortly. That was the last we heard from Pure Kitchen – Joshua has not responded to any follow-up phone calls or emails since. This is our response.

Okay, my off-beat dolls, I need some suggestions.

We've decided that due to EXTREME lack of funding, we're going to DIY our own catering. It drops the cost for food and beverage from over 5 grand to a much more manageable 1 grand. Folks have tried to talk me out of it with every single request for advice, but honestly, it is just not an option to hire a caterer. I've got it pretty well figured out though and I'm not scared.

We're having a relaxed late-summer wedding at a local park with an enclosed picnic building. What better to serve than typical barbecue fare, right? Burgers and brats! Genius!

So, the plan is burgers, brats, baked beans, raw fruit and veggies, chips, cookies, and cake. Easy enough. The only things that are warm are the burgers, brats, and beans. Our plan is to have everything cooked and prepared earlier in the day and then just kept warm until we serve them. We'll hire a couple of folks to make sure the buffet line is kept full

My question is this- What's the best way to keep the stuff warm that needs to stay warm? The beans will be easy enough with crock pots and chaffing dishes, but how do I keep the meat warm enough to be safe for around 4 hours? I was thinking I could try large electric roasting pans set on low. But I am really unsure. I've never had to keep 100 brats and 100 burgers warm! We have access to electricity at the venue, but no oven.

We are only having about 40 guests, so I don't think I'd need alot. I keep looking at water bottles to get an idea, but I'm still not sure. Thanks!

LOL

I'm seriously bummed, I saw this on Pinterest and it was such a perfect compliment to the candy buffet at our black, white and purple night time reception! The kicker? It isn't a DIY, it's a legitamte marketed glowing cotton candy stick that is only sold by 1 company for 1 quanity option... a case of 400 freaking sticks!!! I only need 90-100!! And I can't pay $500 to waste $300 + sticks :( I am so po-ed

My fiance and I want a wedding reception without all the frills and thrills. We want something simple which doesn't require us to take out loans and which has a nice touch here or there, like a fun party favor, red velvet weding cake, etc. We had considered our favorite bar, where we met, but it can only hold 60 people and there's no way we can do less than 83 people. So we're considering other options. We're not you're typical bridal couple, however: my fiance has his dream wedding in mind and I've never given stuff like this much thought. So I'm pretty flexible and my fiance is pretty set with what he wants. This includes having his cousin and aunt, who are professional chefs, cook for the reception. I've never met them nor tried their food, and they'll be coming from another country. My fiance wants to rent a big house by the shore for the reception and for our close family members to stay in. I'm okay with renting the house but I would like to have the reception catered so we don't have to worry about finding a place big enough for his cousin and aunt to cook, buying/renting glassware and dishes, finding enough food, etc. Plus his cousin and aunt are coming to the US from another country, so I'm worried about whether something might happen with their flight and other uncertainties. I look upon having his family cook for the reception as adding a lot of stress and he looks upon it as a lifelong dream. I'm starting to be made out by him and his parents as the "bad guy" for not wanting things this way. He and I have talked about how I'm more flexible with what we do and he's more set in what he wants, but how this is supposed to be our wedding, which means he needs to compromise. Any suggestions as to what we could do?

We were thinking of having this at the reception and sending the cake with our guests to go in doggy bags. What are your ladies thoughts?

We've decided upon a station buffet for our reception. To over simplify the situation my family owns a catering company which will be catering our rented reception at my parents house; the guest list is currently at 225. The catering company traditionally serves weddings- but has never put on a station buffet. We're not sure how many stations to have- 4? 5? The plan is also to have a plated salad served to each guest and a card detailing what is going on at each seat (as well as a more subtle announcement by the dj).

So my questions are; How many stations for 225 guests? How long would you plan for a station buffet to last? Have you attended a station buffet- what was good/bad about it?

Thanks!

We plan on having a buffet style dinner. We will be buying large pans of food from a local italian resturant near my home. The problem is WE have to pcik it up. Im worried the food is going to get cold really fast. Especially since the ceremony is at 4 and reception at 6- so we wont eat til about 630 or 7. Do those food warmers with the flame underneath really keep the food warm? Will it keep the top of the food warm or leave parts of the noodles and cheese hard? Any suggestions? Food is very important at any event and we really want delicious cheesy italian food that stays nice and warm! Thanks
