My family and I plan to host a shower prior to the Civil Union of my cousin and her girlfriend, however we can't find the right approach to researching gay-friendly venues.

We live in Chicago where there are certainly neighborhoods with places that would be accomodating, but I think they're hoping for specific neighborhoods so there's easy access for friends and family, and I know they'd feel much more comfortable in an "inviting" environment so we don't want to pick places that wouldnt support such an event.

If anyone has suggestions of specific places to check out or websites that would be helpful it would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I am invited to the wedding of two female friends, both of whom I adore, but don't know super well (we met through mutual friends but live in different states, so most of our interactions are online). I want to get them something really nice, and while I know it doesn't have to be anything specific to their being gay, I also want to acknowledge their joy (and triumph!) at fiinally being able to get married. Am I making sense? I'm not saying "Hey, what's a great lesbian wedding present?!" but if any of you got a gift that you found very meaningful to you, I would love to hear about it. One friend is giving them a copy of their wedding invitation framed in stained glass, another is giving them a custom painting... they are both very bright and creative, so I don't want to just get them a place setting. Know what I mean?

Thanks for any help!

Hello Everyone,

I need help finding an small outdoor wedding venue for a wedding of about 10 guests. It woudld be even more great if the venue was able to have overnight accomadations. Every single guest will be in from out of town so I would like to make it a little vacation for them. We like very simple, cute, and stream line. We will be doing a across Europe cruise after the wedding. So anything money wise on the cheaper side would be awesome. Thank you so much for reading this. Anything little helps :) Have a wonderful day and thanks in advance!!

Quite a few couples, I've noticed, decide to have two ceremonies, one for friends and family at home, and one in a state that recognizes gay marriage.

However, I have noticed that different couples do things differently. Some elope first, and have the ceremony later, and some have the ceremony first, then elope for the legal marriage license.

My fiancee and I haven't fully decided yet, although we've always talked as though we would first have a wedding here in North Carolina, and then choose a honeymoon destination somewhere that gay marriage is legal, and be legally married on the honeymoon.

What do you all think are the pro's and con's of each?

Our ceremony and reception will be the first time any of our friends and family will witness any PDA (Public Display of Affection). Why you ask? Well, although they have known about our relationship, we have not openly displayed our affection in front of others. The reason being because for years we kept our our relationship from employers, co-workersor , some family and friends out of fear of rejection and being judged. So, after years of just holding back any display of affection in front of others, it's hard to just flip a switch and be okay with it. When trying to select a song for our first dance and trying to practice dancing to it, it turned out to be a very sad and ackward moment. I don't know if we will be able to overcome the ackwardness. Not because we don't love one another but, because we have only on one or two occasions slowed danced together...let alone in front of a hundred people. Any suggestions or advice? I'm steering away from a cookie-cutter wedding/celebration in some areas. So any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I had a friend visit me yesterday to inform me that one of my "bridesmen" (our party is mixed male/female) is planning some sort of dance for our wedding reception. She isn't exactly sure what type of dance he is going to perform, but I know how he dances since I am constantly telling him I'm not trying to have sex with him on the dance floor. This makes me very - scared and nervous.
Besides the "who knows what type of dance he's going to perform" anxiety, I am also worried that it will bore the guests. We already have our first dance, father daughter/mother daughter dance (we're splitting the song) and our wedding party is doing a dance together. Already we have too many dances, and I just don't know how to go about approaching him about my reservations. From my conversation I gathered he is very excited and I don't want to hurt his feelings by telling him he can't do it...but I really don't want him to.
Since we still have a while to go, maybe he'll simply forget about it himself. I'd thought of casually bringing up the dances already planned and hope that he gets the picture on his own.
