Hi ladies,

I love, love, love this open-backed dress from Theia: http://www.theiacouture.com/Site/#/collection/special/whitecollectionfall/890156

... but the backless style makes me a little nervous given my (relatively) large bust at 36D. The dress store and tailor all seem to promise me that they can sew in cups and support to make it work, but I guess I'm a skeptic, especially when this promise is coming from someone who's trying to make commission on a $1400 dress.

Any brides out there who have done this successfully? Or who haven't been happy with the end-result?

Hello All,

I'm not sure if this goes here or etiquette, but I'll give it a try. My younger sister is getting married next summer, I'm very excited for her. She lives on the other side of the country, where the wedding will be, but wants to try on wedding dresses at a shop on my coast while she's here for thanksgiving. Her intention is to go with me, my mother, and a few other important bridesmaids to get the dress trying on experience and get our opinions on shapes and styles. Here's the little catch- her budget for a dress is on the smaller side (less than $500) and she's not really looking to buy any of the dresses she's trying on, just get a feel for what she wants. I bought my dress used online (an awesome find!) so I never did the trying on thing. Is it kosher to book an appointment and take up a salesperson's time if you're not really looking to buy the dress? It feels a little off to me, but maybe it's a totally normal thing to do. I'd love some feedback on other peoples thoughts, and if there is anything we should know/do when we go for the faux appointment.
I can't see spending a couple hundred dollars on something I know I can make myself, plus - how special will it be to wear something I made? I am a super crafty person, and am very confident in my abilities, but I wanted to see if anyone else has done the same or is planning on doing so. If you already have, do you have any random tips that you wish you had known before? I am planning on practicing the attachment to the comb several times before doing my actual wedding veil.

Thanks in advance!

I just want to be the center of attention for a minute. I went shopping for my dress this weekend with a couple of friends, future SIL & my mom. We went to a little shop my mom found out about during a chance conversation with a casual acquaintance. I wasn't all that interested in this shop, but my mom really wanted to go, and I'm glad we did. It's called Catherine's in Valparaiso, Indiana. Tiny little boutique, fabulous staff, and although small, had a perfect variety of dresses. The dresses are all hung in a row along one wall, each wrapped in plastic zippered bags, so they all look very meh and unassuming until you try them on. I had a fantastic time. I narrowed my choices down to my top 3, and then went to a second store after Catherine's. My experience at the second store was very underwhelming, and I was also sick so I very quickly decided I was over dress shopping and decided "To hell with it! I'm going to pick a dress from my top 3 and just order it!" I went through my pictures, chose the most flattering one and ordered it. Done!
So without further ado.... the dress! I'm ordering it in ivory with champagne trim under the bust & in the train. Ignore the ridiculous faces I'm making.

Hello everyone! I ordered my veil and it arrived in the mail the other day. It's beautiful. I love it. No problem there. Just need opinions on something. I bought a mantilla veil and they are traditionally worn on the top of the head. It's chapel length (which is the length I want) but as something special for my mother I want to wear it over my face now. (she really wants this, and it's her only request)... It costs too much to return the veil and buy a longer one sooooo.... Should I wear it over my face and it will just be a "floor" or "ankle" length veil or should I get a small blusher to go in front.
I'm looking for some guidance on what to wear under my gown. I have an A-line Adrianna Papell gown with no train. The wedding is in the middle of August and since I was in the 8th grade I've always worn spandex athletic shorts under dresses. I've heard that Spanx are hot and not exactly sexy. What are my options other than letting my thighs stick together or overheating??? I want to still look sexy out of my dress that night, but the idea of chafing isn't sexy either...

Hey Everyone!

I'm getting married in late summer/early fall of 2016. I'm looking for a gown and venue first, but have one big problem: I DON'T WANT A WHITE GOWN. And I have NO IDEA how to shop for it.

Anybody have any advice? I live in Seattle, Washington. I am going to Nordstrom and they know I don't want a white gown. The thing is? It's not that I want a wedding dress that's dyed a different color, I want an evening gown. A beautiful piece of art that happens to be a dress. The only couture place here in town (Luly Yang) was fantastic... but every dress I liked couldn't be made in my size for a price that was reasonable.

Any pointers, tips, or clues would be much welcomed!

Thanks so much!

So, I got this maggie sottero dress for a steal. It's a sample dress, size 8, in pristine condition from an upscale bridal shop. it fits comfortably, but needs to be taken in in the bust (my boobs will never, ever fill a dress well, lol). So obviously I am going to get it altered. Considering that it fits very well in the waist and hips, what do you think? You can't exactly tell from the pictures, but I have pretty good shoulder and collarbone definition, and my shoulders are not sloped at all. I am 5'3'' and 120 lbs, and hope to lose about 10 more by september (I have lost 27 total, 21 of which are since July). Will alteration help? I was happy with it when I bought it but now I'm getting worried about the whole "almost nobody looks good in a strapless dress'" thing.

I mostly wear sneakers and boots if it can be helped and I don't think I've ever tolerated a pair of three inch heels. For the reception I'm probably going to switch to glittery TOMS, but for the ceremony, I'd really love to wear some beautiful heels. For this to happen, they're going to need to be comfortable. Are there any brands known for making dressy heels on the more pain-free side?

HI I would like a professional opinion regarding the dress length of the mother of the groom. we are going to tie the knot in the first week of december and decided to do a formal wedding that starts at 1.30 church and and 3.30 reception that goes on until 9.00pm. my mother MOB with various opinions bought a velvet dress that is of ankle length back in march. the mother of the groom is being made now a month before the wedding and a problem rose as she wants it just below the knee. obviously she talked to her family about it and other people are saying that the etiquette says for that sort of length. we also took advise and since the wedding finishes at 9.00 in december we opted for an ankle length for the mother of the groom and mother of the bride.. Do you think we did a bad choice? thank you

I ordered some custom wedding flats. I had foot surgery about a month ago, so I needed something flexible and flat. I ordered a size up because I'm expected to have swelling for quite a while, and I figure I will be on my feet a LONG TIME on the big day...

I'm glad they're not too small... I'm hoping an innersole from the drugstore will help (and can be removed if needed if I swell up on the wedding day). Any other suggestions?

They can't be returned since they are custom...and honestly the next size down would probably be too small for my post-op foot.

Just wondering if anyone else is this way. I rarely have strong opinions on clothes anyway, just want to look nice and be comfortable. I seem to be stuck looking for a wedding dress. I have 3-4 now that I'm kind of left with but nothing wows me. The problem is I don't think anything will wow me. Not to mention I'm very practical with money and I have a hard time wanting to spend a lot on a dress for one day. Or between the ones I've liked it is anywhere from $120-500 so I have a hard time not choosing the cheapest just bc I don't like one more than the other.

Has anyone else gone through this? What helped you decide?

Thanks!
