October 2014 wedding. The bridal party is wearing plum, the groomsmen medium/darkish gray. MOB wearing floor length dress of undecided color. As a 64 y.o. white-haired MOG, would a navy gown be appropriate? I know MOB should get hers first, but I have found one I like and know she won't be wearing navy.
Is navy in the color family without standing out too much? I look washed out in pale colors. Help!?

I'm kind of stumped on what to do for my rehearsal dress. Our wedding is a rustic theme and my dress is very simple. However, my FML booked a nice country club for the rehearsal dinner. (suit jacket and cocktail dresses required) She asked me if I was going to wear white and showed me the dress she chose to wear (very fancy). I did want to wear a white, but now I'm worried that whatever rehearsal dress I get is going to outshine my wedding gown.

I don't want my FH to see me at the rehearsal and think "Wowza!" then get his first look of me as I walk down the isle and think "yawn".

What should I do?

Well not so much shopping as we would have no intention to buy but more like trying them on to see what looks good and trying the different shapes and colors. I am just afraid that I will find one that I really love and then end up buying one, one year before the wedding.

I am currently having a dilemma with shopping for my wedding dress. I do not have a mother so I was hoping to go with just my sister. I have a friend that insists on being there when I go dress shopping. We have very different tastes, she is often negative, and she and my sister do not get along. I would like to have this moment with my sister and not have to deal with drama between them. I am stuck in the middle and it's no fun. What do I do?!

Thanks!

I just had my second fitting and burst into tears on the way home. It's a beautiful dress but it's very uncomfortable and I don't feel like myself. The fact that the lace of my straps makes my skin bright red certainly didn't help - the seamstress says she can't do anything. I really want to love it, but I just don't. Do I suck it up because it's already paid for, or do I pay my parents back and start hunting for something off the rack? I've waited a long time for this day - I'm an over 40 first time bride - and I want to feel beautiful. Has anyone else had dress remorse? Any advice?

So I ordered my Dress last august from Alfred Angelos. Loved the dress!!! I took it in for alterations just to add a layer of glitter tulle under two layers of white tulle and to add a bustle. Well I saw my dress last thursday. I have seen better 5th grader sewing projects! They told me after I had already picked up the dress that there hadn't been enough glitter tulle to do what I wanted, but it still looked beautiful. Well they paneled the tulle so that there was no glitter tulle on the sides. There were bright white thick stitches against the tulle and also near the bodice. You could see the stitches more than the glitter tulle! At the bodice the stitches were falling out and the tulle was coming off. Plus the stitching could be seen through all the layers of tulle. My wedding is in 2.5 weeks. They say I should have my dress by a week from friday. Is it reasonable that I want the price back for the alterations that were paid and also a little back on my dress? Not talking a whole lot but a little something and also I never got my preservation kit that I paid for. My dad used an entire paycheck to get my dress and accessories and he doesn't like seeing me cry because my dress is falling apart in the bag three weeks before my wedding.

It should be here in about 15 weeks!

So I am about 5'0" and haven't started looking for a dress yet, but I'm concerned I will have issues because of my height. I plan to wear heels for the ceremony/pictures to decrease the height difference between myself and FH, but want to switch to flat comfortable shoes for the reception---I'm worried when I change shoes the dress will be too long and I will be tripping over it at the reception. Anyone have the same issue???

I just recently started planning my wedding. We have chosen the date to be October 12, 2014. That gives me about 5 months to get everything organized. I don't think this is too short of a time period since we are planning an ultra-casual wedding. However, guests keep talking to me as if this will be a fancy event even after I've made it clear that it's casual. Let me start from the beginning...

My older sister got married last year and spent well over $20,000 on her event. It was beautiful and turned out just the way she wanted, however I personally feel that a wedding is just a big party. The average cost of a wedding in my city is $32,000. My fiance and I just bought a house and would really like to start having children soon. That said, it's not currently in our budget to throw around that kind of money for nothing more than a glorified party. I totally understand and respect the point of a wedding and understand that each bride has different views on what her wedding day should be. However, we are trying to keep our budget within $1500 with 100 guests. So far with food and venue already chosen, we are right on track to meet our budget. I think a wedding should focus more on joining families and less on how much was spent on the dress or cake. Our wedding will have games (Photo Booth, giant chess, etc.), music and hopefully just a really fun day outdoors with loved ones.

For a while, my fiance and I were actually considering eloping. However, I really want all of our friends and relatives to be a part of our wedding day. The idea we came up with was to throw a very casual wedding at the local park. I found a beautiful pavilion there right next to a big open lake and a brand new, large playground for the kids. My wedding dress will be more of a white sundress (possibly with shorts underneath so i can play with the kids and be comfortable) and I am telling guests on our wedding website to dress comfortable/casual. I also let them know that heels aren't recommended since there will be a lot of grass around. The way I envision my wedding day is a bit more like a family-reunion park day where my fiance and I just happen to get married. There will be no aisle either. I am thinking of just having me and my fiance walk over to where the ceremony will be after mingling with guests for a while.

The main thing that has been baffling me is that even when I tell family or friends "comfortable/casual... no heels... like a family reunion at the park", they still want to wear fancy dresses and ask me things like "oh you're JUST wearing a sundress?! that looks too plain". I'm all for guests wearing whatever they want and whatever makes them happy. My main concern is that they don't actually understand how casual my event is going to be. I want to focus the panning on what it's meant to be about and not on the overpriced odds & ends. My biggest concern is that guests won't actually be comfortable the day of the wedding in their heels and dresses. I honestly wouldn't even mind if they came in jeans. I've printed on the invites "comfortable/casual attire" and wrote a whole paragraph on our website with a photo of heels sinking into the grass how they should dress casual if they want to be comfortable and that rain or shine the party will go on. Even after all of this one of the bridesmaids said she plans to wear her favorite dress that she never gets to wear anywhere. Is there a better way to get this message across or should I just let them wear what they want and they'll learn the hard way?

They will be cheaper and they've only been worn once. Do you think this will be fine? Is it taboo?

I bought my dress back in March (way too early since my wedding isn't until Sept. 2015 - I know). However, I got overly excited to go shopping and ended up loving a dress & buying it on the spot. Since then I occasionally wonder if I was too impulsive and should have tried on more styles before making a decision. In particular, I really wanted to try on a blush dress & a dress with a high lace illusion neckline. Now, I'm over the blush thing because I actually love the color of my dress (it's champagne-ish) & think it works well with my skin tone. However, I keep thinking about if I should have tried on a dress with a high lace neckline (mine is sweetheart so essentially the opposite of what I bought). So I guess my question is - should I try one on in this style? I know people say once you buy a dress, stop shopping & I have done that. (I also need to stop watching wedding dress shows - that might help). My only reasoning behind this question being that I could potentially try it on, realize I love mine more, get over it, and get the idea out of my mind. However, there's always a chance I could love a different dress and then I would be really screwed because I already spent way too much money on one already.

Apparently, I'm crazily indecisive so maybe I just need people to tell me to ignore my indecisive thoughts for the next 14 months. Advice?
