I am pretty sure my boyfriend is going to propose soon. He has already told me that he wants me to pick out the ring when he does. Plus my mother has offered us a diamond that was my grandmother's to use in the ring. So I know I won't have a ring right away. Is it bad to wait to tell my family until I have the ring? Is it bad to wait to tell everyone until I have the ring? I know that they will probably ask me about it before the ring is ready and I am afraid of hurting feelings if I wait to tell them. Part of why I want to wait is that I have thought of a really cute way to tell them.

So... After 18 months my BF finally proposed!! It was over 2 weeks ago now and yet with all the planning and talking and family visits and family talking it seems like he asked me months ago!
My FI did an amazing job with the proposal. I had no idea it was coming and started shaking pretty quickly! :)
My question is, does anyone else feel like its been so much longer then it actually has?!?! We are planning a July 2012 wedding and that seems like so far away!

My fiance and I have been "unoffically" engaged for about a month now. (Meaning he had bought the ring, we started planning, but he was stilll waiting for the "perfect proposal") Wellllll he finally did it last night!!!
Now, however, comes the hard part. I am caucasian, and he is Indian. His parents, even after 6 years of dating each other, still do not accept the fact that we are together. They're polite to me, but have told him on numerous occasions they don't believe we're compatible or that I'm a good choice or what have you.
So we're going to talk to them tomorrow about everything that's going on, and our plans, and I'm REALLY REALLY nervous/scared. I've told him that I think that he should kind of talk to them before I'm there, but he thinks it'll be better with me there. I think it's going to be a mess either way quite honestly.
Has anyone had to deal with something like this? I'm so afraid of what they're going to say...

Well my proposal story is a little different than most it all started with a local radio station running a contest "Engagement of the Century ". The contest consisted of why you wanted to propose on the day of the royal wedding, the prize a beautiful sapphire engagement ring. I was made aware of the contest in an email from my Mom who thought that it would be great idea for us to enter. We have been together 8 years and spent the last two putting every penny we have had into house renovation. I sent the email along to my boyfriend Jeff getting the expected response of "We would never win" That was the last thought I had about it. A month later the day of the Royal Wedding rolls around and I sick in bed with a nasty head cold. I had spent the week getting worse and worse and finally decided it was time to stay home and get better. At 8:00am Jeff comes in to wake me up asking me to come out into the living room and have something to drink. I threw my robe and head out to living room, while sitting there sipping on some water there was a knock at the door. Into the living room piles a large group of people from the local radio station, I was in complete shock, Jeff got down on one knee and proposed. We had won the contest!! I don’t know if I was in more shock that he was proposing or the fact that I was in my bathrobe sick in front a group of strangers. It was amazing, bathrobe and all I would not trade that moment in my life for anything.
You can even watch it online...lol
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IitnRBYgF8A

I drove up to where BF (FI :D ) lives after I got off work around noon on Friday (one of the few perks of not having a real job). This weekend was his college graduation and one of my sorority sisters' bridal showers. We had had a HUGE fight the night before... long story short, I am terrible at being patient. (We've been together 3 years and 8 months) I really have worked on it over the last couple of months, but my impatience really flares up in the face of big events (graduations, friends' bridal showers/bachelorette parties, etc). So BF's response is: "Stop worrying about it. It's not going to happen this weekend because there is too much going on and you are expecting it so just STOP thinking about it." Me: FINE! (yes, super bratty... not my proudest moment)

BF tells me he wants to take me out to dinner at this really nice steak restaurant because he wanted to go there after graduation but 1) it will be packed, and 2) feeding 2 dozen people steak is effing expensive. We get to the restaurant and as we're getting out of the car he is taking FOREVER to close his door... I thought I saw him put something in his pocket and immediately told myself not to think that because IT ISN'T HAPPENING.

Dinner was great, and the weather was gorgeous (72 degree days in Texas are a rarity) so we decided to go for a walk after dinner. The "something is in his pocket" thought is long gone by now, because I'm focusing on walking about a mile in a dress and 4 inch heels... a walk probably wasn't the best idea. We got about halfway around the pond and were walking up a ramp to this covered bridge when my heel got stuck between the planks. BF didn't notice right away, so he got to the platform (top?)of the bridge and I caught up to him and kept walking, thinking we were about to walk down the other side, only to run right into the back of him.. smooth.

He turns around and says:
"You know I love you more than anything in the entire world, right?"
Me: "Yes...." *he's just being cute, don't ruin this moment, it isn't going to happen*
BF: "And you know that I will do anything in the entire world to make you as happy as possible for the rest of your life?"
Me: *nods mutely* *OMG OMG OMG*
BF: *gets down one knee with the most gorgeous ring and ring box I have ever seen* "Will you marry me?"
Me: "yyyyeeessss" *hyperventilating/crying*

And there was a family at the pond feeding the ducks, and apparently they saw us get engaged and started clapping. Yay for random strangers :)

But somehow in all the excitment of this weekend we didn't get any pictures together with me wearing the ring, so I took some pictures this morning... enjoy!!!

Hi ladies! I'm a long-time lurker but just joined the boards because...I'm engaged!!!!

It happened this past weekend. FI and I went to the Bronz Zoo for our 15 month anniversary (we try to do something every month like a dinner date or whatever) we spent the whole day walking around the zoo then the city. That night I stayed at his place and that morning, (the 15th was our 15 months) he asked me.

We were jsut waking up and he rolled over and asked me if I loved him and if I would like to be his wife. Because I was just waking up, I thought he wasn't being serious so I just smiled and said maybe. He then pulled out a ring and asked me to marry him. Needless to say, THAT woke me up...and I said yes :)

I'm new to the boards and recently engaged, as of May 7. This is the (shortened) version of our proposal..

My fiance surprised me with a weekend getaway to Sedona, a beautiful city about an hour and a half away from where we live. I was secretly hoping this would be THE weekend, but he kept on insisting that he wanted to do something special for our three and half year anniversary. I suspected something was up because we've never really celebrated the half anniversaries. He took me to an AMAZING and romantic little resort and spa called L'auberge. We were enjoying the creek just steps outside of our little cottage when he announced that he had another surprise. It turned out to be a helicopter ride over the beautiful red rock scenery in Sedona. I had always wanted to go on a helicopter, so although I was nervous, I was also really excited. The pilot lead us on a beautiful tour, narrating the entire trip. Towards the end of our tour, my now fiance told the pilot he wanted to talk to me for a minute. He said a few sweet things (which let's be honest, as soon as I knew what he was doing, I was instantly on cloud 9 and the exact words are a blur) and asked me to marry him. I of course said YES! Needless to say, I wasn't expecting him to do it in a helicopter, so I was completely surprised!

It was the most romantic weekend and PERFECT proposal. I seriously couldn't be any happier!!
This is where my memory gets foggy about what he said next because I start freaking out. Then I remember he says "Basically, I want to be with you for the rest of my life!" and pulls out the box. I'm so embarrassed that he is doing this in front of 40+ family and friends and the entire restaurant that I literally turned my back on him getting on one knee. >) I turn around and he opens the box that is shinnig a light on my ring (robbins brothers) and asks me to marry him. I say "Yes, of course!" I knew this day would bring me luck ;)

On the canvas I would have a partial body painted of a big muscle man...or superman....or a bull fighter...or the thinking man.....or WHATEVER! lol

We of course will have nice photos as well.

On Friday I met my now FI at his apartment because we already had plans to spend the day together. So he took us out to my favorite Italian restaurant and then afterwards we went to the Botanic gardens. He told me earlier that morning that we were going there just to look at all the stuff they had in bloom because it was such a pretty day out (especially for Texas! The high was like in the 70’s) and I had never been there before and I had wanted to go. So we get there and walk around first at the Japanese Garden until we made a full circle and he wanted to go and sit inside the gazebo that is on the pond. So we’re sitting and we talk and all the sudden he pulls out a ring and asks me to marry him! And I was speechless. I dropped my jaw and I remember saying “are you serious?” and he teased me that I was going to just take the ring and run so I jumped up and teasingly told him bye but I came back and I don’t even remember what all I said since I was probably babbling- I just remember him asking is this a yes? Cause I hadn’t said yes and I said yes of course and we kissed and it was just perfect. I couldn’t have asked for a better Friday the 13th since it will be one I’ll never forget :]

Hello ladies! I'm a bit late in posting this as my fiance proposed back at the end of February but I only just started looking at and using these boards this past weekend and love all of the supportive women on here :)

He and I both love New York and experiencing all the city has to offer together. Our first date was at the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) and it was a perfect day-- best connection I've had with another person that quickly ever.

One day he asked me if we could meet some work friends of his at the museum on a Saturday morning. One specifically is an art director in advertising and so the story he told about his friend wanting to check out a certain exhibit sounded plausible enough for me not to question the romantic nature of the location. Though I knew we wanted to be together forever, I had no idea he had a ring and had planned a proposal that soon so I wasn't expecting it at all. We went there to "meet his friends" and he led me up to a gorgeous fourth floor balcony in front of a wall length window overlooking both the courtyard and the city. He told me how much I mean to him, how amazing the last year has been, how much he loves me, and the next thing I knew-- he was down on one knee and asking me to marry him! One of the most amazing moments of my life. I still can't get over how happy I am :) He even had his friends hiding in the corners taking photographs of the whole proposal.

I just got my engagement ring resized because it slipped over my knuckle way too easily. When I picked the ring up, it fit perfectly! Well... I don't think I calculated in heat and finger swelling. I can still get it off but it takes some pulling and twisting. It feels fine when on, just hurts like a b*tch when taking it off. I've never, ever worn rings before getting engaged so I have nothing to compare it to.

How tight are your rings? Should I go get it resized 1/4 size bigger? Ughhhh!!! TIA

A big congrats to anyone else who got engaged on Friday the 13th!!! We did!!! But now I'm into planning mode...We've decided to do the do in DR but we live in London, UK. All the resorts offer wedding planners but I'm wondering do I or should I get a planner in the UK to help filter all the info through. And if so, do I then need to encur the cost of them (maybe) having to go to the DR too?

Or can I trust the people at the resort to do all the things we'll be asking of them without being able to double check?
I've been lurking on these boards for awhile, dreaming of the day when I can plan my own wedding, but now I can finally contribute - we're engaged!

Thursday was our anniversary. When we woke up, my fiance asked me what I wanted to do to celebrate. I had a pretty bad cold so I didn't have much to suggest, but he mentioned my recent complaints that we don't have enough pictures of the two of us together. So he asked a friend to come meet us at the spot where we had our first kiss on our first date (a large tree overlooking one of Washington, DC's most amazing monuments) to take some photos of us.

I should've picked up on the symbolism of the location (and the fact that he was fussing so much over what to wear should've given me a clue!) but it all seemed perfectly normal to me. We got to the memorial and took a few 'happy couple' shots, and then my fiance disappeared behind a tree, saying he needed 'a prop'. A few seconds later, he was down on one knee with the ring box, proposing to me with some incredibly moving words that I barely heard because I was so shocked! At the end I tried to grab him to kiss him but he laughingly took my hand first so he could put the ring on it and seal the deal. The tourists standing around nearby clapped and we hugged and kissed, and the best part is, our friend got rapid fire action shots of the whole thing - every moment of the entire proposal! I've looked through that album a hundred times already and I can't imagine I'll ever get bored of it.

My ring is stunning, super sparkly, elegant, everything I could have hoped for - he had it designed himself, which I love because it's so thoughtful and it means no one else has it. I can't stop staring at my hand!

I'm so grateful to be marrying this man, to have had the perfect proposal, and to get to make years of happy memories together as husband and wife. Let the wedding planning begin - I'm beside myself with excitement!!!

Hi, I am a longtime lurker and this is my first post. My boyfriend, now fiance, took me on a picnic today in the woods where we had our first date. He had made the sandwiches and brought rasberry lemonade (my favorite) and we ate lunch. He then asks if I'm ready for dessert, always a yes, and pulls out a box from my favorite French Chocolatier, inside is my ring and favorite chocolates. He gave a small speech about loving me forever and promising to kill the roly-poly bugs and I said yes! Hello to all the knotties and congrats on your engagements also!

He asked to go for a walk and I didn't think much of it because we love walking the grounds. It was the sweetest moment, so simple, yet so beautiful. =)

My birthday was April 9th, and I had a feeling he was going to propose then (I had recently been on a family trip and my mom asked me questions about whether he could make me happy forever, if I wanted to marry him, etc. and also brought up my gramma's rings, I thought maybe he had called to ask permission - turned out he had)
Birthday came and went, and I thought I must have just been imagining the signs. April 12th I had the day off and was relaxing at home, when FI went out to "run some errands". When he came home he told me that he wanted to try on his new sports coat we had picked out the day before to see how it looked with his dress pants (clever plan to get dressed up!) Then he came out and grabbed our kitten Misty, telling me he had bought a surprise for her. She has long, white fur and sheds a lot, so I immediately started "nagging" him about getting fur on his nice clothes. He left the room with Misty, and I heard the jingling of a collar with a bell. I started telling him to leave the collar off, she doesn't like them and doesn't need one and I had thrown out the previous one for that reason. I heard him struggling for about 5 minutes in the spare room, but I was distracted with something so didn't go to investigate. He came back into the living room and held Misty out towards me to look at her new hot pink collar. "Oh cool" I said, before looking back to my computer. He told me to actually look at it, and that was when I looked up and saw him on one knee, and noticed the sparkle dangling from the collar!! He asked me to marry him, and after repeating "are you serious? is this a joke?" about 20 times, I of course said yes!! As I started to make my phone calls (after enjoying a moment of happiness with my future husband of course!) I found out that my parents, siblings, best friend, all of our mutual friends, and all of FI's family and friends had known for weeks! Apparantly FI was planning to propose several days later and was just planning to pick up the ring that day, but got so excited on the drive home that he just had to do it as soon as possible.

It was the perfect proposal for us. Kind of cheezy, a bit of a mess (with me nagging and Misty being an unwilling participant), but funny and full of love.
