Hi I am wanting to have my wedding outdoors at the family farm. Im planning on rent a few tents to cover for the cateres, the reception, and the ceremony. I always read that there should be a backup plan incase of rain, well I dont really know what to do for a backup plan, do you think it is possible to have a floor put in with the tent? Do you think that it is good enough to keep rain out? The house on the property isnt big enough to hold all the guests. Thank you, I just want to be prepared!lol

I'm looking at different prices for silk flowers and seeing they come mostly in 1000 pc bulk.

Any idea how many is normal to cover a 'normal' isle? and how many is normal to just do the two strips along the outsides of the isle?

Anyone done this before? I'm pretty clueless on how many to buy.

Thanks!

I've noticed that we seem to get a lot of posts asking for advice on specific vendors in certain areas (i.e. Poster is looking for a place to hold their wedding in a certain state). I wanted to inform posters that this board is an international board meaning those who post here are from all different areas of the world and not just specific geographical areas, so you may not get the information or advice that you're seeking. If you're looking for advice or information on specific vendors in your local area, I strongly urge you to check out your local board since there will be more knotties (from your local area) on that board with helpful advice. If you're having trouble finding your local board or have any questions/issues, don't hesitate to page me or private message me, and I will definitely help you out! =)

PS. As the mod, I now have the option of moving any discussions if I feel the post will receive better advice on a different board.

I've started calling around for estimates for tents. My jaw dropped to my knees when i heard the prices. I really had no idea that they cost 1000 bucks and that doesnt include the site inspection or delivery. We are on a low budget of 3,000 or so. So far its been going great. So i found an alternative. Instead of tents, we have thought about canopies. They arent as heavy a material as tents but they do come with the side walls for about 12 bucks a pice. We were going to do one for the buffet and tables and another for dj and dance floor. Do you think that canopies would be sufficient even though they arent as heavy weight as the tents? Thanks for the help!

So...when I began my wedding planning, I wanted a wedding that was no fuss and just a fun day for everyone. That being said, we found a venue and hope to have both the ceremony and reception outside. We wanted to have food that everyone would love and that's not the usually fish, chix, prime rib, so we are having a well-know BBQ place cater. We are getting real utensils, setting the picnic tables nicely with linens, burlap runners, etc. I guess you can say I'm going for a rustic look overall. Anyway, I had originally been looking for a taffeta or chiffon, light, airy, flowy dress. Flower in the hair, no veil. Well when I went to actually try them on, I found that overall, that style did nothing for me, just sort of "hung" on my body. I ended up trying on a a full lace and bead, trumpet style dress with a chapel train, in ivory. Not at all what I expected, but it fit me like a glove and really made me feel like a bride! Now, I'm having second thoughts because it doesn't really "fit" the outdoorsy, relaxed theme. The lace makes it great for a garden/outdoor wedding, but is it just too much for the day? My husband to be is wearing a khaki suit with a tie, I was hoping attendants would show up in sun dresses and khakis and dress shirts for the guys (ideally).
Hey ladies! I wanted to let everyone in on the new board format that will be coming soon. Essentially The Knot message boards will be a lot more like The Nest message boards. And with change comes new features! Such as:- Edit button - Emoticons- Quote feature- Link feature (as long as it has http:// in the link, they will always be clicky!)- PIP feature (no more codes!)It will be a lot easier to navigate the boards as well. The boards appear on the left hand side of the screen, so no more drop-down menu. Posters will no longer have the blue balls underneath their screen names, but will rather have post counts displayed. For example, I have a little more than 2,000 posts, so I would be considered a Silver Poster. Newbie posters- 0-500 postsBronze posters- 501-2000Silver posters- 2001-6000Gold posters-6001-15000Platinum posters-15001 +Also another great feature that we will have is the Private Message feature, so private emails will no longer need to be given out in posts. To answer the question on everyone's mind of, "When will the format change?".. So far there is no set date of when it will change. Right now, all of the Mods are testing it out and making suggestions. Also The Knot team is still working out issues, kinks etc. If anyone has any further questions, don't hesitate to ask!

We drove up to check out Meadow Creek B&B (really nice) and since the Lower Lake Ranch was close by, we drove around the area. We found an old lodge and asked a woman walking her dog if the weddings were held in the building. She said no & pointed across the lake to a small wood building. She explained the previous owners built & used it as a multi horse stall/barn and the current owners had renovated it and now call it the Gathering Hall. We did not stop & talk with the owners as we both felt it was way to far for guests to drive after celebrating our Fall 2010 wedding.Christa***********************************************************My post above was originally attached to these on The Knot Forum Board.... thought I would repost as they disappeared From: nelson_09 I just wanted to give a warning to future brides. I got married two weeks ago at Lower Lake Ranch in Pine, and I would NOT recommend anyone to use them! They started off being really nice at the begining and then the closer we got to our wedding, the more lies were told and the ruder the owners became. All they care about is making a buck and have no respect for their clients or their guests. I'm not the only one that has had problems with them. I have talked to past brides and they had just as much trouble. Vera (one of the owners) yelled at me at my own reception, so what does that tell you! I wont go into too much more on here but if you want to know more details of everything that went on, you can email me at henks84 at yahoo dot com Thanks! From: Bailey17 Sorry to hear about your trouble at the Lower Lake Ranch. My DH and I got married there on August 8, 2009 and our experience was horrible as well. I would never recommend them to anyone. Vera and her husband were extermely rude to us, our wedding party, and our guests. We had countless other problems including: not enough food being prepared, not enough tables and chairs being set up, being overcharged for the cabins, we found a dead racoon at our rehearsal site and had to dispose of it ourselves, they through away our guests personal items from the tables at the reception....I could go on and on. Bottom line I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. If you have any questions you can also email me at Love_Bug at hotmail dot com

We are suppose to have our wedding at a golf and country club, but we just found out FH's extended family may not come. Now my fiance has suggested we have a backyard wedding because he is disappointed his mother's side of the family will not be able to come out due to being too old to travel or no funds to travel. Which is understandable. So for the past 5mos we've been planning our wedding at the country club, which is absolutely beautiful! He said he wants me to be happy and wouldn't mind either way but its like starting all over from what we've already done. I keep saying its okay to have a small wedding but if we are having a small wedding he wants a backyard wedding. Which I dont mind, but w/ the costs of renting everything having it outside in the summer is asking alot. Our wedding will be held in Phoenix, Az (Gilbert area- as of right now) but if we get our house we are waiting word on, he wants it in our backyard. Our wedding date is June 12, 2010. Any suggestions? Thanks for listening.

Okay well im thinking of having my wedding at my grandma's farm. It is just a farm with cows nothin cool like a horse ranch lol just boring farm. So it doesn't really have much to the pasture but the pasture itself and a barn. (not even 2story barn.) Im wanting a relatively small wedding of 100 people and I don't even know where to start. I am wanting to have the wedding out in the pasture somewhere and the reception in the barn. so I guess my questions are: How would I even go about decorating for ceremony? Does this sound like a dumb idea (would u go to a farm wedding?) How can I still make everything look formal? BTW at reception I am not wanting sit down dinner just finger foods lots of deserts and candy but still formal. Im sure I will have lots more questions because I am a worry wart and have no clue where to start with all this... Sorry and TIA

Okay ladies just want to share our VERY cost effective decoration idea - flower gardens. We decided to go with long term decorations rather then spending tons on stuff that will only last a few days. Nothing fancy as far as flower types (that’s not me) but they are colors and styles to match the flow of our day. This weekend we did two separate gardens at our house which will be about the size we will be doing at the farm and it was only $47 for all the flowers, soil/fertilizer, and wood chip covering and we had 2 bags of chips left over!!! We plan to do a garden to enhance the ceremony backdrop, two garden areas around front of barn, and flowers along the walk way. Based on this weekends total for two spots we know it will be less then $100 to do the four areas. Plus, my parent’s will get to enjoy the flowers for several weeks rather then few days. Hope this helps someone else.
