Monograms seem to be really trending lately in weddings. I seen on Pinterest that monograms were used as wedding guest books and others for wedding/bridal gifts. Too cute!

Moving to Scotland immediately after the wedding - any way to recommend money gifts?

I am getting married late this summer to a man from Scotland and am moving there with him immediately (more or less) after the wedding. My issue is this: I'm getting rid of 95% of my stuff and can only afford to ship very important personal items. Is there any polite way to let people know that we can't take any more "things" but would greatly appreciate a financial gift?

It will be a very small wedding of family and friends, probably not more than 30-40 people total, a civil/hand-fasting ceremony, with a potluck reception. Is there anything I could include with invitations explaining my situation?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Hello ladies,
I have a quick question for any of you that registered at BBB. It is very early for us but some gifts have already started to come off of our registry. (I can't help but look!) The other day when I checked it out I noticed that a gift we only requested one of, there were 2 purchases made of it. I am wondering how that is possible? I don't really know how it works but if someone goes to the store or online to buy a gift off of the registry, doesn't it come up that the gift was already purchased? I may be very wrong like I said I have no clue how it works. Has this happened to anyone else and is it something I need to call BBB about? If it is a double gift it is not a big deal I will just have to return one of them. Thank you in advance for any help!

I am struggling with the number of items to register for- we are currently registered at BBB and Pottery Barn, with a majority of the items at BBB.

For the wedding, we have 230 people invited. I am guessing there are about 50-60 invited to the shower. This guest count is courtesy of massive Italian families on both sides :)

We have registered for 136 items at BBB and 65 items at Pottery Barn, making the total 201. It seems like a lot to me, but my mom pointed out that a lot of the items on my BBB registry are in the $5-$10 dollar range... FI wanted OXO cooking tools, etc. We have a few big ticket items, but not many. Most things are scattered in the $20-$70 range.

I noticed on a lot of registry pages that it says that to determine the number of items to register for, add up the number of people invited to the wedding and shower and then multiply that by at least 2. That makes it seem like I didn't register for nearly enough gifts.

Is this suggestion correct? I know it is a statement by the stores that want more business so they want you to register for as much as possible.

Any advice or suggestions would be wonderful. Thanks!

Should I register for china?

I can see myself using china in 10-15 years. I don't know that I would buy it for myself. I have nowhere to store it now. The patterns I like are at least $100/place setting (which is crazy, IMO). If we add it to our registry, I'm afraid that this will be most of what we get instead of the other items that we actually "need" at this point in our lives. But, like I said, I don't imagine I will ever spend that kind of money myself. My mom insists that registering for china is necessary.

Did you register for china? Are you glad you did? Wish you hadn't? I need others' opinions... TIA

First wedding gift!

OK I know I'm bad, but my shower is in two weeks, and I just peeked - somebody bought us our first wedding gift! It's our silver chest, and I can't believe it... I really wanted it but wouldn't have purchased it for ourselves after the fact because it's pricey. I don't know if it's a wedding or shower gift (wedding invitations go out next weekend), but I'm very excited! Is it weird that it finally feels real?

Seasonal Items

Newly engaged here. Fiancee and I went to Crate & Barrel to get an idea on what we'd like for the home. The store associate explained that some of their items were seasonal. For example, if I put their bakeware set on my registry in August, it may still be available in March but only in whatever the spring color is as opposed to the original color I registered.

Do y'all know of any store that keeps products in the same color all year? I'm getting married in March 2014 so that's right after stores change their seasonal products. I'd like to avoid updating/changing my registry at the last minute.

Curtains/Window panels

My fiance and I have just started registering. However, we bought our 1st home a year ago and have a lot of the "typical" items a couple registers for (blenders, utensils, cookware, etc.).. We are looking to redo some things in our home, including the window treatments. I was thinking of registering for some new panels and whatnot.. however, I've never seen them on a registery before.. is it weird or improper to ask for things like that?

Wine glasses at BBB

I'm looking to register for some wine glasses at BBB but I'm relatively new to the wine world and don't really know what to look for. Is it ok to register for just white/ red wine glasses, or do you have to have both? Any brands that are good or that we should stay away from? Thanks!

Just want to say how excited I am! Was checking the registry and updating it and saw that two of my favorite gifts were already purchased! Our everyday place settings from Williams Sonoma and our bedding from Jonathan Adler! I am soooo excited to know we will have a comfy bed and gorgeous plates! it feels so real! My shower isnt until April and I am going to try not to registry stalk, but man this is fun!

Gift Registry 360?

Can someone please explain (in plain English) how this works? I already have two registries - Target and Pottery Barn. I know from reading the FAQs that I can't "link and sync" my PB registry to a GR360 registry, but can instantly update it to have my Target registry.

So can someone go to Target, find my registry in store, purchase an item and it'll show up on my registry as purchased? Or will they have to specifically go through the GR360 website to purchase it?

Has anyone used this before?

My MOH and jr bridesmaid are mother and daughter. I'm already looking what to get them, now I'm stuck. Any suggestions? We live in the desert, wedding is in June and by July it'll be 110* JBM will be 10 and is such a girly girl. I was toying with the idea of getting her some body sprays, hair pretties and a small purse, perhaps coach bc I travel alot and get great deals. She always giggles and wants to carry mine when we go places so I thought maybe shed like a small one of her own. Opinions?? Thanks!

So I am recently engaged and just starting to register, but it's difficult because my fiance doesn't seem interested at all with helping me pick out things...is this normal? I just worry that he might not end up liking everything I register for, but I understand that it's maybe not as fun for guys to look at dishes and sheets on their day off.

Neither our mom or her MIL are big cook so not much family help on this one. Any advice you have would be great! Thoughts on Crate and Barrel, Pampered Chef, Corningware, etc.

My aunt is throwing my bridal shower or me, she wants an idea of what theme I want, only problem is we are working on buying a house and I don't have any room in our storage unit for more items so I don't want like a kitchen theme or bath theme, but a gift card theme sounds tacky, although all of guests know my current situation. I've been told by a few people that they received the most gifts sent to their house AFTER the wedding, not before. I've only received a few gifts so far and am worried that I'll get a huge amount of gifts sent to me after the wedding when I'm on my honeymoon and can't pick them up off the porch. Did anyone get a lot of gifts after the wedding? I need to know if I should arrange to have someone stop by every day I'm on my honeymoon and collect gifts.

Any ideas? We are renovating our new home right now and it is going to be very modern. The kitchen has an Italian/wine/vineyard kind of look though so that room will be more rustic. I have never lived in a home other than my parents and a college dorm so I have no clue what are the best places to register for our gifts! I really like Williams-Sonoma and Macys, but I have have no real reason for that other than the stuff appears to be nice!

Registry Update

So a little while back, I posted about my Mom complaining that I didn't have enough "nice" (read expensive) items on my registry. I had registered for about 70 items that I really wanted/needed plus some upgrades. Anyways, needless to say, my Mom invited 60 people to my shower (95% of which are her friends/family - yes they are all invited to the wedding) and from what's being purchased so far has been the more expensive items. So now I think I need to add to my registry since by my calculations only 10 people have purchased gifts and I'm not going to have anything left for the other 50.

I'm just having a hard time registering for new pots/pans when mine are perfectly fine and crystal when I know I would rarely use it and my Mom & Grandma each have a complete set in the same pattern that services 12 (so that's a service of 24 if I combine them). I know that I will be inheriting some of it one day.

Any suggestions? Did anyone else have "registry guilt"?

Macys vs. JCP

I was planning on registering at BBB and Macy's, but then I noticed that every item on my Macy's registry was more expensive than at JCP and equal or slightly more than at BBB. I'm thinking of switching to JCP and BBB, but Macy's seems so popular - is there some other advantage to registering there that I'm missing?? Thanks in advance!

So my wedding is at the end of April and both of my showers are in March (no invites have been sent for anything yet). We registered at Macy's and Bed Bath & Beyond awhile back and thought we had more time to put the finishing touches on it before people started buying gifts. Well, this weekend my fiancee's grandma called us to say she ordered us some gifts off of our Macy's registry. We were very excited so we logged on to the registry to see what was coming (we couldn't help ourselves!) We then discovered his grandma ordered everything on the registry that was on sale that weekend. We literally only had 36 things left on the list. We couldn't believe it, she was so generous. We immediately called her back to say thank you and she informed us that there was more she wanted to get but is waiting for it to go on sale as well. Everyday we keep coming home to boxes and boxes of stuff on our front porch. My question is, when do I send a thank you note? Do I assume this is a shower gift and send it after the shower? Do I send it when the last gift arrives? Do I assume this is a wedding gift and send it after the wedding? I've verbally thanked her many times but want to send a note too. Any advice would be helpful! Thanks!
