A few registering questions...

When is it acceptable to being registering? We are getting married in March, so we still have about 9 months. Also, I would really like to register at Crate and Barrel, but I live in Louisiana, where there aren't ANY :(, but we are getting married in California (where 95% of our guests are from, so it wouldn't be a problem for them). Is this okay? I'm just thinking about how big of a pain it might be if we need to exchange/return something. What do you ladies think??

My wonderful FH and I got engaged three weeks ago. We're still working out venues and stuff (we want to get married a year from September) and haven't registered yet because the wedding is over a year away.

We've already gotten several gifts. My neighbor bought me a few glasses (it was an inside joke), FH's aunt got us a photo album for our vacation pictures (we got engaged on vacation), and his grandmother got us a blender. Not expecting that, but so sweet of them. Next, my aunt and grandmother went out and got us silverware. Here's my question.

We haven't registered yet but we were going to pick out silverware together. We're just starting out (both still living with our parents right now a year out from graduating college) so we need things like that. The pattern that they picked out to give us was ugly. I can't imagine using it every day. My aunt told me that we could exchange it for another pattern if we wanted, but let me know that the set of 12 came from the Christmas Tree shop and she had a horrible time finding the full set (they come in packs of four so they had to buy three boxes to make the full set).

It seems like I have a few options. I can keep the set which won't go with anything else. Pros is that my grandmother and aunt picked it out (knowing also that it wasn't their first choice but insetad the only one of 12 they could find). Cons is that it's really one of the last things I would have picked. I could exchange it. Pros is that I might be able to find something I like better. Cons is that I might not be able to find it because now I'm limited to a discount store that doesn't carry the same stock from store to store. Last option that I can see is that I return it and shell out money somewhere else for a new set and nobody needs to know. Pros is that I get what my FH and I want (and goes with our style and taste). Cons is that I might have to spend a lot more money getting something I want.

Thoughts?

Bed, Bath, & Beyond discontinued my comforter set!

Has anyone else had this happen to them? I went in to update my registry today because someone told me our bed set was listed as out of stock. I called BBB's customer care - they told me it is out of stock and discontinued. I am so mad they never even notified me! Poor customer service.

Restaurant Registries?

So we all know what people on TK think about HM Registries, but what do Knotties think about the FoodieRegistry.com?

When someone buys you a gift card to the restaurant of your choice, they do not pay a service fee and the recipient actually gets a gift card to that restaurant, not cash.

My H and I registered here since we are pretty big foodies, and we got a lot of gift cards to our fav restaurants! And we even had plenty of other registry items on our 3 other registries to choose from.

I'm in a wedding this June and the bride has gotten everything. Like, everything. Her shower was a good 40 gifts or so (I am SO happy for her - she deserves each and every gift!) and the registry is cleared out (except for the expensive items). I want to get her something amazing buuuutttt with planning our own wedding...we don't have a lot of money. What do you get the bride whose gotten everything already? I don't want to get her a gift card because we're only able to get a $20 - $30 gift it I would love ideas! Thanks!

My fiancee and I are exchanging gifts on our wedding day but am struggling with what to get him. Would like to do personalized cuff links and something else as I have a strong feeling he will be purchasing my wedding jewelry and/or something else that is a few hundred dollars. He is EXTREMELY picky with watches and the ones he has interest in are way beyond what I can afford so that's out of the question. Any other ideas out there? Past brides, what have you done?

Early Shower--when to send thank yous?

Hey guys! My wedding is in February of next year, but my aunt decided to throw me a bridal shower at the end of this month because of timing. Its really hard for all of us to be together at one time and the 4th of July is perfect for that. Anyhow, I'm already starting to receive gifts in the mail for this and I'm wondering--do I send out thank yous after the shower is over, or wait until after the wedding? It seems like an awfully long time to wait to send thank yous, but I wasn't sure.

I have a registry with a store that apparently isn't "featured" on the knot, so it doesn't show up in the Registry Search... but I'd like people to know that I'm registered there.

Hey everyone! Just curious....have any of you registered for/bought/been given a robotic vacuum cleaner like Neato!? My fianc and I have discussed the possibility of adding one to the registry or just purchasing on our own, but I wanted to see if anyone has actually had experience with one of these types of devices?! Feedback tips would be greatly appreciated : P.S. don't know if this will affect your comments/suggestions, but our apartment is all wood floors, tile in tr bathroom, but I'd wash that myself anyways!, one level, loft style apartment. I'm not sure if this was answered yet. Sorry if it has, I'll look for the thread more closely. I just want to know how soon do people usually register? I want to have everything set, but I'm nervous that since the wedding isn't for another 13 months it will be too soon. We have pushed the date back about 8 months so I had started registries when we were planning on getting married this fall.

Has anyone come across these?

My FI and I recently got engaged. Our parents are throwing us a small backyard engagement party. Should I start a small registry to give my guests an option to by something versus giving a monetary gift? I would not announce it on the invites that I was registered. I don't expect gifts since we are only having the party to announce our engagement. However, if they choose to give should I give them an option by making a registry?

I have heard mixed reviews about Target. I am already registered at BBB, but got an offer in the mail from Target. If I register for ten things I get a 25 dollar gift card. I am considering just doing a small one too at Target. If anything... at least I would get a gift card! LOL

I did not think registering was going to be difficult at all, but there are a ridiculous amoutn of options. I dont want to think anymore. So I am asking that everyone else decide for me. Please pick your Top 3: Williams Sonoma, Crate & Barrel, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Macy's, or Kohl's. Thanks for any input!

Bridal Shower vs. Wedding Registry-HELP

So, I'm confused. Can/do I register for gifts for my bridal shower that are separate from our wedding registry. Example:

We want to register with Cabelas and REI for our wedding gifts but I kinda want to register for pampered chef and at home America, etc, etc too, but don't want to register for to many things and can I do some that are just for my bridal shower... Okay, this question has probly been asked a gazillion times, but i dont know how to do a search.

1. I'd like to get my FMIL a gift, because she's really helped me out A LOT (my mom has been MIA most of my life). What do you guys suggest? I was wanting to definitely get her a corsage or something for the wedding, but i also want to get her something extra too.

2. I'm having my uncle (and his fam) and a great aunt come from out of town (they both live about 5 hours away in different directions). Do I get them anything to thank them for driving all that way just to see me? It makes me feel super special!

Unique gift for daughter and groom

So I just went on my registry to add an iron because I keep forgetting to do that and something has been bought and added to the registry. The only thing I can think is that someone went to Bed, Bath and Beyond to get a gift and bought this item for their home and it was added to the registry as a gift for us somehow? I can see picking up something that someone feels like we might have left off the list, that is super important, but shelf liner is kind of random, don't you think?

Has anyone had that happen?

My FI and I have lived together for over 3 years, and we bought a house last year. So we have a lot of stuff a couple would normally register for. We started a registry at Target and Kohls for items we know we need (new bath towels and stuff for the bathroom; additional serving items to match our dishes; silverware; new quilt for the bed and sheets). But at each, the registry prints out to be only about 2 pages (if that). My MOH is hosting a shower in September for about 70 and the wedding list is at 250. Has anyone ever run into this situation? What did you do?

I'm even afraid to tell my close family that we've finally registered because I know they'll start shopping and then there won't be anything left in August when the shower invites go out!

We plan on a small destination wedding of 25-30 family members. Do we still register for gifts? We don't need much because we are both over 30 and already live together. Also, if someone offers to throw us a shower, do we invite friends and family that are not invited to the wedding?

So...we have a small wedding (40 - 50) and I made a registry about 20 gifts deep (never heard of people bringing gifts to a wedding - just envelopes) when my friends mentioned I should "just in case". The items were all different prices - 5 less than $20 items, 10 items from $20 -$40, 4 from $40 -$60 and one over $100. I looked at my registry today and ALL of the $20 or less gifts are gone. Did I register wrong? Should I be registering for more under $20 items for the wedding than I did? Any suggestions if that's the case for Bed Bath and Beyond? Thanks!

opening gifts at the reception?

I was wondering what you all think of opening gifts at the reception. My fiance says he's seen quite a few of the couples' weddings he's been to have done this. On the other hand, my mom and I have never seen it done. We will most likely not be having a gift opening or a brunch after the wedding, so we were attempting to find how we can fit it in otherwise.
