Makeup artist or D.I.Y?

I know there are a lot of posts on here about hiring a professional to do your makeup for your big day, but what if you are a makeup artist?

I have been a freelance makeup artist for quite some time now and am confident in my skills. I love doing my own makeup and know what works and looks good on my own face.

That said, I am terrified that I will be too stressed out and rushed on my big day to sit down and do a great job with my own makeup. On the flip side, I am also worried that another makeup artist won't "get it right". I'm used to wearing a decent amount of makeup and want to look totally glam.

Has anyone else had their makeup done by a professional even though they knew they could do it themselves? Is it worth the stress relief to have someone else take care of it for you on your big day? I hope I don't sound totally ridiculous, I'm just curious what other peoples thoughts are :)

I don't usually wear perfumes b/c my fiance has allergies so I usually wear body sprays. But body sprays don't last all day and I need a sweet, kinda fruity perfume to last all day for our wedding. Any good suggestions???

Aloha,

I will be coming to Oahu to get married at the end of May. Being that I am from Pennsylvania, I am looking for some recommendations on places to use for hair and make-up. Ideally, they would come to me.

Also, anyone who has had a destination wedding in Hawaii - how did you consult with the person doing your hair and make-up prior to the day? We are getting in to Oahu late on a Thursday and getting married Saturday. With so much to do on Friday, I don't know if I'll have time for a face-to-face consult.

Any advice would help!

Veil Decisions

So I have been jumping back and forth between what kind of veil to wear!! I'm planning on pulling my hair back into a low hairstyle. Kind of a French style Gibson tuck with some loose curls. Similar to the picture on the left in the link below. Then I was going to pin some white and pearl flowers right above the base of my hair (my mom wore them in her wedding, its my something old/borrowed). I would love to wear a veil!!! I was going to pin it under the flowers for the ceremony and take it off for the reception. I don't know what kind to get though!! I only want a simple veil, because my dress is very nice and has lots of embellishment at the top. So probaly nothing longer than a shoulder or elbow length. Any ideas or suggestions and pictures welcome!!! I still have some time I'm only looking just now. Thanks! :)

I just wanted to drop in and say that this coming Sunday will be EXACTLY TWO WEEKS since I became engaged!! We plan to make a wedding trip to Perth in Dec．，any suggestion for “must see” attraction?

The 2nd confusion: packing the honeymoon bags may sound interesting and easy, but this is little tricky for me, especially in selecting the dresses. I'm goin' to bring my evening dress for the trip. Is it all right?

I bought one from a online store, and I ask the designer to make some change for the style I like.
Now,I ask them to put a glossing belt, like the picture one and this is the original wedding dresses which have no belt added.

To start.. I am from Pennsylvania. I live in NC and 3 of my BM's are from here. The three of them all assumed we would be paying for their hair and make-up to be done even after I told them it was optional and that I didnt care how their hair was styled as long as it looked nice. I've never heard of the Bride and Groom or their families paying for BM hair and make-up and I've been in several weddings. So I had to let them know we would not be paying for it and I feel like an asshole. Is anyone paying for their BM's hair and makeup to be done? Is this a southern thing?

I've got almost 5 months before my wedding but I am completely stumped for hair ideas.

And my hair is looooong and quite curly. I'm considering going with a hairstyle that shows off my natural curls, but I'm not set on it.

So, daily I'm a HUGE tomboy, low-maintnence, one of the guys, in the Army, &e... I have super short, dark brown hair (it barely goes past my eyebrows and doesn't reach my collar in the back) that I rarely, very very rarely, do anything to. For date night, I'll rock the "Alice Cullen" flippy thing, but my BFF/ MoH always does it for me. I'd really like to look like a girl for the wedding and everything, but I'm stumped on how. Any ideas or suggestions on what kind of 'do I could pull off for our big day? Suggestions on what to do about a veil? I feel like I'll end up looking bald with a big/ long one :(

acrylic nails - please help!

I have acrylic nails. I have had them for a few of months now, and I get them filled in and re-painted every 2 weeks. My wedding is in July, and I am planning to keep my acrylic nails at least until then and indefinitely afterwards, continuing to get them filled in every 2 weeks.

However, I am having problems with them breaking. I don't do much physical work, and I wear gloves when I clean or do dishes, so I can't figure out what is causing them to break. I broke one putting on my shoe last night. The entire top just snapped right off.

I seem to have better luck with them not breaking when I just get the traditional french manicure as opposed to getting other nail polish colors, but maybe I am just being superstitious.

Could anyone help me? I'm wondering what might be causing them to break. The salon I go to is great about getting me right in to fix them, but since I have to pay per nail (and tip, of course) when they break before my 2 week appointment, it's starting to get expensive.

My lips are naturally a bit darker than most, so I usually don't wear lipstick b/c I don't like how dark they get. I would like to find a nude lipgloss that has some color (not just clear) but that isn't dark. Any ideas?

hair pins vs bobby pins

Hey ladies. Maybe I am just clueless - what would be the difference between U-pin hair pins and bobby pins?
Looks at some pretty updo's online that have small pearl or beaded pins scattered over the hair, not sure if the U-pin or bobby pin style would stay better or be more versitile for this type of style?

i am leaving for the military in less than a month and am looking for all of my vendors before i leave for my wedding in july. i dont want anything toworry about while i am in basic training.

are there good stylists that wont be too pricey in the bay area?

i just keep finding very expensive places for hair, and i am looking for something very simple but it is getting to the point where i may end up doing it myself.

any recommendations are appreciated, i have nothing to go on so far.
