SEARCH! That's right, tomorrow we're launching new boards. They'll have some other bells and whistles but honestly, I'm most excited they'll have search! It's been a very, very long time since these boards were updated and they're old, freeze a lot, and the search never, every works. So tomorrow, you'll find new boards here around 9AM EST. If all goes well, you'll be searching up a storm by lunch. And, don't worry, there will be an FAQ for all the new features and Knot Annie and I will be here to field questions. Oh, and just to calm the fears, your post count may be a bit lower than it is today, but it shouldn't be much. A small price to pay for actually being able to find all those posts you've participated in (oh, did I mention the boards won't archive--no more 1 page boards!). TIA Knot Jen

Hi Ladies! I will be making more wedding posts in the future but I wanted to let everyone out there know that New Orleans City Park is a WONDERFUL wedding venue and I would highly recommend it. We were married at the Parkview Terrace at NO City Park on Oct. 17th. The staff were completely 100% professional and helpful. They do most of the setup for you; my glass was never empty; and they kep everything moving in a timely fashion. The food was delicious. In fact, people have not stopped raving about the food. The Parkview itself is stunning, as are the other venues within NO City Park. My coordinator was Cathy Persica -- she was fantastic. And, the price was most definitely reasonable. There are only a few cons with the Parkview. First, there's no changing room for the bridal party. I didn't personally care about that, but some people may. I think the other venues in the park (for the most part) have changing rooms though. Second, the Parkview Terrace can only hold, at max, 150 people. Again, the other venues in the park will fit more people. I cannot say enough about the food there. I loved my wedding; and that was due, in large part, to my experience with New Orleans City Park. If anyone wants to chat with me directly about NO City Park or the Parkview Terrace itself, I'm more than happy to tell you all about it. Will be posting pictures as soon as I can get them.

Thanks!
sjcastag@gmail.com

I'm not sure if i'm posting this in the right place, this was the best spot I could find. I just had to get the word out there to people... The company is Xceptional Entertainmentwww.xceptionaldj.com/ The owner was supposed to DJ and have a party motivator as well. The owner did not show up. The man who did, though very nice and he really tried hard, did a terrible job. No one danced, he playe...d a lot of music we didn't want at all, and refused to take requests from the mother of the bride! A party motivator he was not.The owner was also totally unresponsive to my wedding planner. I couldn't find my contract (though thankfully I did find it after the wedding, so I was able to verify that the contract was indeed broken) the owner would not send my wedding planner a copy. My planner informed he ignored many emails and calls from her, and when she was able to get a hold of him, he was unresponsive. He didn't return my calls either, or did so after 9 pm. We didn't actually touch base with him and verify details until a few days before the weddingI didn't get an explanation from the DJ that showed as to why Sergio did not. Nor did he bother emailing me or calling me after to explain the breech of contract. That said breaking contracts is not cool, and the adage, you get what you pay for, once again holds true, spend the extra money and go with a real wedding DJ.On the other hand, my photographer, Fernando Gomes of NFG Photography, http://www.nfgweddingphotography.com/ He's the greatest! He and his wife were a pleasure to work with. Fernando put me at ease, he is very cool and easy to get along with. he's not cheesy or pushy and obnoxious, like a lot of the other photographers I met with were. He did a great job at the wedding, we barely even noticed he was there, which is what we wanted. We did a few posed shots after the ceremony, and he did a great job on those too.

I got married 3 weeks ago and it was fantastic! I truly enjoyed the day and I had to share this story. My sister in law needs to be the center of attention and couldn't handle that for one day she wouldn't be. (Her wedding was in 2007 and was a bridezilla to the max!) So she announced she was pregnant the day before our wedding! Can you believe that? I had to laugh because I had a gut feeling she would pull something like that. This is the best part...she's only 6 weeks pregnant and hasn't even been to the doctor to confirm! Even though she tried to make our wedding about her the fact is that it wasn't. We were in our own world and it was fab! Just had to share such a selfish story!

Hey Knotties, I just want give you a heads-up that I’ve been receiving more emails lately from real brides who have joined our community to post a review and were attacked for being a vendor. I know that we’ve had problems with actual vendors trying to post as brides (I’m working to help alleviate this as well and our mods to an awesome job), but at the same time we don’t want to scare off potential members and these brides who are trying to help. The reason that we’re seeing this more is because brides are becoming more accustomed to using community sites online (Yelp etc.) to give a single wedding vendor review or just a review of anything, even if it’s NWR. A good way to handle this if you are unsure is to respond with something like this: “Hey WinterBride, Congrats on your wedding! It sounds like you had an awesome photographer. I see that you’re new on The Knot Community, so I thought I’d give you a heads-up that most of the regulars post full vendor reviews after their wedding. We’d love to hear yours. Tell us about your florist, venue and dress when you can (point them to your bio if you have reviews there). Post pics too! Welcome and congrats!” Feel free to copy and paste my puppies and rainbows response above. My goal is to make this more of the normal response from all members. If it’s questionable, report it or send it to messageboards@theknot.com. Thanks so much, KA

I was a very disappointed bride overall. The vendors that The Mill recommends were for the most part great, but they themselves are seriously lacking in business ethics and best practice. The following details why: 1) we booked the venue and paid additional money for reserving both the downstairs and upstairs, and thereby having the venue to ourselves completely from 6pm onwards. when we booked this in, the mill was not doing a la carte dining, and when they did bring it back, we received no notice of this and were still made to pay the full add'l charge (even though we didn't have the place to ourselves anymore!)! 2) our wedding 'coordinator' and her boss took about 2 weeks to return emails or calls, if they ever bothered doing so at all. 3) they don't insist their recommended officiants attend rehearsals before the ceremony; ours didn't and he botched the whole thing...quite embarassing. 4) our hor deourves and salad selections were wrong the day before the wedding. 5) pre-ordered veggie/gluten free appetizers/dinners were not served properly. 6) a seat was missing from a table, leaving the mother of one of my bridesmaids embarrassed. 7) our sand ceremony portion of our ceremony was not set up properly, so that family members were supposed to bring up like communion so that they could be a part of the ceremony; this was discussed and agreed in advance. 8) servers were VERY rude to our guests; when they did not provide the correct veggie/gluten free meals, when my aunt asked for her piece of cake (because she passed the one on originally given to her, but the server yelled at her saying she already got one!), and finally when one server yelled at my great aunt to move her walker out of the way as it was a fire hazzard, yet she put a tray of dirty dishes there instead! 9) POTATO CHIPS were served as an hor deourves when the 'coordinator' and i had agreed to pomme frites (french fries!) originally!!! 10) the raw bar which charges at $12pp additionally only had about 2 dozen shrimp, oysters and crab legs on it and guests were made to wait in line for someone to ration their servings! I had emailed the head maitre d and owner before writing these reviews, at least expecting to receive an apology, but no such luck. I would never recommend this place to anyone for their wedding.

I'm working on our thank you cards from our wedding and I'm stuck on how to word one particular thank you. We invited a family that I know, and their son was the only one who came. I'm closer with him than I am with the rest of his family, but we still invited his mom and step dad and sister. So how do I thank my friend for coming but say how we wished the rest of his family came? I put this one off until the end and I'm having a bad writer's block. I just want to make sure I say the right thing without sounding mean or awkward or anything.

Flowers - Brette Start at Start Planning - absolutely beatutiful flowers, tons of color, she listented to my ideas and offered her own and was willing to work with my budget. Photographer - Laura Stone Artstar Photography - great photos and she's great and easy to work with. Her style is more photojournalistic with candids but when the weather didn't cooperate she adjusted with more traditional photos and still caught plenty of candid moments as well. Also willing to work with a budget! Wedding Angles in Roswell for the dress and Irina's alterations in Roswell - both great! invitations4sale.com - online for the invitations, quick, easy, perfect proof the first time and significant discount! FABULOUS
