Beginning wedding planning help please! wedding colors? creative minds, i need you!

Hi! My name is Marissa. We've just recently decided our wedding will be july/august of this summer...which is almost one year sooner than we originally planned! So as of right now, i'm completely scatter-brained!!!! I have ideas of what I want, I just need help putting them all together, so thats where you all come in :)

So i'm not going to overwhelm with a ton of questions right now :P - i'm going to start with this that has been bugging me - WEDDING COLORS! First of all, heres a little bit about our wedding and what im looking for - wedding & reception will both be outside at a garden venue. I have so many different styles id like to incorporate from modern, contemperary and traditional to vintage, do it yourself look & totally unique.

Originally, I wanted a turquoise and orange but i decided that was to bold for me, I want color without losing elegance being that it is an outdoor wedding...however, blue is my favorite color so i would like there to be blue (lighter shades of blue) but theres really so many different ways of going with this...from aqua & red....blues & greens....blues & oranges... (i like other colors too, im afraid of losing myself if i went for something thats not me though..)Please feel free to post pictures, links, ideas, WHATEVER! I'm open to it all :) (even if its not color related & just garden wedding ideas, thats always great too)

our wedding is august 25th 2012 and i am having SUCH a hard time deciding colors. i want to choose bridesads dresses...but cant until i get colors. i am more of a brown/neutrals person, but my fiancee doesnt want a brown tux...and i am not big on white...yikes!

Fiance took me to Florida for my B'day so I couldn't celebrate with my brother, SIL, and nephew! We had a blast, it was very hard to say bye to them, next time we see them it'll be our wedding and they'll have a new addition to their family! It was such a great week, we even took a tour of the Budweiser plant!

On with the wedding related subjects! We ordered our STDs! While Fiance watched TV in the hotel I was busy working on them and finalized the colors and everything! I can't wait til they come in!

My SIL is doing all my wedding bouquets, so while we were together we came up with the bouquet for the Bridesmaids! It's so pretty!

This is just a sample: My 2 year old nephew got his little hands on the flowers! We're gonna add more of the lighter pink ones around the bottom of them to fill in the emptiness and so it won't be too dark againt their dresses! We're thinking of using silver/gray ribbon to go around the steams.

Hi All, I'm trying to book a DJ and have found one that I absolutely love. He's a bit expensive, but I think I would feel so confident with him doing our wedding. So I'm trying to think of ways to bring down his price and pretty much the only way is that we have him there for less time. If I cut him down to a 5 hour time frame, it would save me $300. This would mean we wouldn't have any music playing as people are arriving and we would knock a half hour off the dancing at the end, but I would definitely be more comfortable with what we'd be paying him. What do you all think, is it worth it to cut down on the time period and is everyone else booking for five hours? Sorry for the long post but I'm really struggling with this.

There are some changes. Trim down the falshies, add more liner, and also a "nude" lip color. But I like my eyelids and cheeks.

We booked the JP over the weekend. He was awesome & we couldn't have found somebody better for us. I have anxiety when forced into conversation with a stranger (aka: meeting with vendors) and Dan (the JP) made me feel sooooo comfortable....AND he's really funny. He made me so much more excited for the ceremony. I'm usually just thinking about the reception & honeymoon, but now I'm amped up for the ceremony.

Hope you girls find the perfect fit for your ceremony officiate!

Not loving my Save the Dates

So... I love the design of my Save the Dates. aNd I wanted to print them with a local printer vs. having them done online so I could get a nice thick cardstock.

The printer said they could only do 90# through their digitial machine, otherwise i had to print on a 28" press- which is twice as expensive. The 90# seemed ok when I felt it. (I work in printing so i am pretty paper obsessive)

I went to look at the proof yesterday and I HATE the paper. It seems too lightweight, and I already paid a TON of money to have them done at this printer (which I am now regretting).
They said they can either do them on the press instead of digital or I can back them.
However they are going to charge me $1 a card to be backed. And I think thats a lot of money.

I went on cards and pockets but i can't find the right size backer. I need it to be liek 5 1/4 x 7 1/4...because the card is 5 x 7. I can't have them short trim the cards becuase of the design- the integrity of it would be lost.

Does anyone know where I can find odd sized backers. They said if I bring in the paper they will do it themselves and just charge be $15 to mount them.

I feel like I don't want to spend like $300 to have Save the Dates printed and HATE them.

Am i over reacting? Is a 90# stock fine for the Save the Date and accommodation card? Is there something else I should do to add more "bulk" to the item.

Im getting married on Aug. 11. Im feeling behind on getting stuff finished. Ive been following the planner to the T but I dont know when i should buy things for my dress, bridesmaids, groomsmen, and accessories for my wedding like my unity candle and what not. I have most of my big things like my venue , church, baker, dress, dj, florist, and shoes...I hope im being normal...tell me what you guys think..plus im in school and working so i kinda want to get stuff done early so i have less to do at the end just in case i forget something

So I had my trial today and I loved it! The only thing we'll change is that she'll use blond bobby pins and that she'll use actual bobby pins instead of hair pins like today because those were slipping out and the curls were coming loose.

WR: I picked up my crinoline like I posted about earlier. Then we ordered little black chinese take out boxes for our candy buffet. :) We also ordered little plastic book mark sleeves for our guests photo booth pictures when they take pictures. It's always fun to get a few little things done here and there.

NWR: I got to see my best friend who flew home for the weekend from Colorado! I was so happy I got to spend a little bit of time with her! I also ordered a dress for my semi formal for my sorority! I love it because it is pink and black! I might have to wear it to one of my bridal showers. :)

So I met with a day of coordinator last Saturday (October 15th). (Cindy Marotta from all about you events btw) We had been in contact via e-mail to set up the appt (our whole email conversation was all done in 1 day - that's how quickly she responded)
She was awesome and both fiance and I were hooked! When we came home we talked it over and decided to book. I e-mailed her the next day (Sunday, October 16th) telling her that we'd like to hire her and sent her a few questions that I had forgotten to ask but told her to send over a contract asap.
No response.
I emailed her again on Wednesday the 19th just saying that I just wanted to make sure she had gotten my email.
So it's Sunday, October 23 and I haven't heard back from her at all.I'm FREAKING out! What do you girls think I should do? I really loved her and want to book but how long should I give her before I start looking elsewhere?Any ideas/ suggestions?
Also, she had said that e-mail was the best way to contact her and all my other emails were responded to within a few hrs so I believed this one asking to book would be the same?

Making Guest List Cuts? Sorry Long

So we are starting to make our STD. I have been avoiding this topic with the FMIL for a while. We are having a small wedding. We want around 75-100 total. My parents are paying for the wedding.

We got both sides of the guest list a few months ago. My family side is all family and 2 couples that are friends of my moms. My FI and I have our friends/bridal party. And my FMIL gave me a list with there family and Nine couples that are family friends. That is 18 people..... We told her when she gave us the list that we will see what our budget could allow and go from there.

My family is larger, but my mom is angry because they have so many friends coming, and she is not. She said if anyone's going to have friends it should be her because she is paying for it.

Back when we told them we will have a smaller wedding so we may need to make some cuts his mom told me that she already told these people they would be invited to the wedding.... I don't know what to do

When ever I talk to my FI he understands but his mom does not. His mom is very opinionated, we have been avoiding talking any wedding related stuff with her because she is so rude and thinks its her wedding. She tells us stuff is stupid/dumb/not how it should be done ect.

So now I have to bring it up again and I am not looking forward to the convo. I am going to talk to my FI tonight again. I know it will not go well. any advice? Or anyone going through the same thing?

for those of you that found your bridesmaid dresses, what price range are you in? I wanted to do $150 or under, but the dress I love and finally found is $180. It's been a hard search because I needed a rare color/material. I've paid that much for gowns before but they were long. The dress I found is a short dress and I don't want my girls to think I don't care what they shell out. I don't know if prices for dresses vary by region like some other wedding related things do. Any thoughts?

Bridesmaids and Brothers - opinions wanted

So, I need some opinions because I'm afraid I'm getting annoyed for no reason - or too soon. Of course FI is being super supportive, but he's also close to the situations - and of course there's 2!

The first is pretty simple. My father passed away several years ago and so I've decided to have my Mom, who I've very close to, walk me down the aisle. This has been the plan since FI and I got engaged back in April, and it hasn't been a secret.

Apparently last week at my Niece's birthday party it came up that my mom is walking me down the aisle. My Mom told me that supposedly my Brother mumbled something like 'well that solves that' in the manner that he was expecting to be the one doing it. I have no idea why he would think he was walking me down the aisle, especially given our distant relationship. I could go into why this really bothers me, but the real question is: should I talk to him about this or just let it go and move on? I don't want him to be holding some grudge for the next 10 months, but at the same time it would make zero sense for him to walk me down the aisle. Also - I don't' even know if he's really upset.

The other issue I'm dealing with is 2 of my Bridesmaids - my sister and sister-in-law (my brother's wife) live back east. FI and I have offered to fly them out here for a weekend so that we can all have a nice relaxing weekend and pick out Bridesmaid's dresses. I sent an email to all of my bridesmaids awhile back asking for them to start thinking about dates so we can look at plane tickets. I received no reply from them. My sister keeps telling me all kinds of reasons she hasn't thought past December and how hard it is for her to travel. Mind you, she's gone to visit her friend in Chicago several times and just went down to Florida for a yearly Halloween trip.

I need to know when they're coming out so we can budget plane tickets, but also because my job starts scheduling pretty far out in advance. FI thinks we should give them until Xmas to get things in order and then if they can't give us a weekend of their time just tell them what dress to buy and that will be that - we'll spend the money else where.

What are your thoughts?

One of the girls on my hometown page wrote about props for photos. I didn't want to post the same thing on the board about my situation, so I figured I would survey you ladies. Anyway, we are doing out engagement pics in a park this weekend. I know alot of people use props for photos. I was thinking of doing this too. I really wanted to incorporate how we met....we both worked at a movie theatre together. Not really sure how to do this with a park. I am going to see if we can go to a diff location (the theatre we worked at) for a few shots but if not I would rather have it in the park because of the foliage. So if we had to do it in the park, how might we do this? I can only think of maybe bringing a newspaper and focusing on the movie listings....I guess acting like we are picking out a movie. Any other photo prop ideas? I've heard of balloons, wooden &'s, save the date signs, picnic baskets, etc....What do you think? We both have jerseys for our fav football team but I don't want to wear them. I want to wear regular clothes. Haven't figured that out either...or hair, or make-up......Gotta get on that since we are leaving for Ohio tomorrow for them.

We got our engagment pictures done last month and have them back already, I am meeting up with my MOH on friday to make the save the dates. I was thinking about sending them out next month so that my family that lives out of state has a heads up and my fam on my moms side also know whats going on. My cousin is getting married in december and I dont want a ton of questions at her wedding about mine so idk if i should wait or do it before for that reason too. Lastly Idk if people will lose them and forget when they get them 8-9 months before.

Hello! Just thought I'd post a quick intro... not sure if you guys usually do these here. I've been on the Knot for a couple years, off and on, as a bridesmaid in MANY weddings but never really posted or followed the boards.

I got engaged a couple mths back so I guess it's time to plan my wedding. I usually love weddings and planning events, but I'm a bit wedding'd out after the last 2 years I've had.

We've booked the reception venue, so we have a date! Aug 4, 2012! But haven't even thought about anything else yet. Between this board and my 3 other couple-friends who have wedding dates Sept-Nov 2012 (after ours), I'm feeling a bit panicked...

So, hi! Here's to getting started with wedding planning!

ps. I know my bio has me attached to a couple cities and I think another monthly board, but I don't know how that happened nor how to get rid of them... I'm from Ontario!
