Yesterday I was out and about shopping and decided to stop into Sur La Table to ask a question about something on my registry. The store employee who was helping me asked my wedding date (August 25, 2012) and then said "oh, did you just get engaged?" to which I replied "no, we got engaged in May." She said "that's a long time to wait." I then found myself explaining my choice of wedding date to her. A stranger. Anyway, I know her statement wasn't that big of a deal but she has NO IDEA any of the reasons we could have chosen to wait over a year to get married. And it is none of her business either.

What I should have said: "well yeah, but I'm not Kim Kardashian so wedding venues were not willing to bump other brides in order to hold my wedding right away."

I know I am paying for her services, but I feel like she should be able to eat too. I'm assuming I wouldn't send her an invite, right? Since she's obviously going to be there.

Planning slump

Hi all! So when FI and I got engaged I started planning like crazy. I didn't set a lot in stone but started gathering ideas, etc. and we booked our venue, I bought my dress, and I picked out bridesmaids dresses. Since then we have moved into our new house and work has gotten crazy, so those two things have had to take priority over wedding planning.

I have now found myself in a planning slump! I am just having a hard time getting back into the wedding zone. Don't get me wrong, I am still totally excited about it, I am just having a hard time getting back to where I was in terms of having all of these creative ideas.

Any advice? I know some have posted previously about being in this situation for other reasons, how can I get back into wedding mode?

Favors Party

Im getting married August 25 of next year and I've been thinking of differnt little ways to get me and my fiances families together to get to know one another. I am doing this mainlt for the women involved in the wedding (MOB, BMs, MOG, GMOBs, GMOG). I really want to do this as well so that his family can feel included with the planning because I know my family is experienced in this sort of thing and his...not so much.

So far, I have invited them (inlaws) to a bridal show but so far that's about it. I was thinking of having a favors party they all come to my house and bring one thing (be it tulle, ribbons, tape and other things needed for the favors) and we all make them together. I planned to have food and drinks as well.

Opinions? Do you have any other suggestions on how to get the families together?
SN: I already have the reception hall, dress and church picked out so those functions are already out.

I ordered the groom part of our cake topper 2 weeks ago and it came before I went to work! I was soo excited, we absolutely love it!!

Dont mine the McDonalds cup and caramel apple parfait... YUM!

And then when I got home from work, our cake serving set that Ryan(FI) ordered was waiting for me!!

ST. LOUIS (Reuters) - A kindergartener in rural Sweet Springs, Missouri, brought a bag of crystal meth and a crack pipe to school for show-and-tell, but an alert teacher kept the boy from sharing his treasure with others at the school, an official said on Tuesday.

"He was very excited when he got to school," Superintendent Donna Wright said of the September 6 incident. "But I don't think he knew what he had."

A teacher recognized the drugs and pipe and police were called to the elementary school. "It didn't ever get into the classroom," Wright added.

"That was a first for show-and-tell in this town," Police Chief Richard Downing said. He added that the boy's mother, Michelle Cheatham, 32, was arrested later on drug charges and released on bail.

"It was shocking," Wright said. "We're not experienced with dealing with this."

The town, located 66 miles east of Kansas City on the Blackwater River, has 1,500 residents and about 425 students in its school system.

So last night, FI was looking for photos for our NWR travel album and he found his pictures from his freshman year high school dances! We've been looking all over for them because our idea for STD's is to have me photoshop us together from our respective freshman dances.

I'm kind of excited to start on this project, even if it ends up being all just fun. (budget's getting tight and STDs may be nixed....)

(It kind of goes with our relationship's "theme" of rewriting history. Because we met online, FI started making up all these totally absurd stories for when people would ask how we met. I'm not really sure how many people even know how we actually met, lol)

Hi ladies - just wondering when everyone is planning on starting to look for their wedding dress! I'm not planning to buy off-the-rack, so I know I need to order well in advance, and I was thinking of looking in early November (9 months out from the wedding), but now a bunch of coworkers are telling me I need to start looking RIGHT NOW or I won't get my dress in time, so I'm completely confused. I'd prefer to wait because I'm trying to lose a bit of weight for the wedding and wanted to give myself a chance to drop a few pounds before shopping, but I'd hate to think I'm not giving myself enough time to order my dress. When should I start looking?

Attending other Weddings---Notice everything?

Am I the only one or do you notice EVERY detail at other people's weddings.

A long time ago I metnioned I wasn't sure if I could go to my good friends wedding because it was going to cost us a ton of money to go etc. But we ended up going this weekend and it was SO fun.
the wedding was beautiful and my firend looked gorgeous. She usually rarely wears makeup or dresses up and even the priest and the viedographer said she looked amazing like a model in her dress, like she came off the page of a bridal magazine.

ButI found myself noticing EVERY detail and when i would comment on tiny little things, people would look at me like "how did you notice that"

so then it got me thinking. I am obsessing over all these tiny details at my wedding- and NO ONE is probably going to notice other than girls that already got married or girls planning their weddings.

Also I want to note that the poor bride- three girls stood up adn ROASTED her for a speech and omg I felt so bad for her, and awful. And someone wore a long white dress!!

AH

Anyway- has anyone else been going to weddings and feeling like they have Spidey sense and are picking up on every tiny detail.

Also, the things that you think are SO strandard at all "nice" weddings. Where the girl really planned. People noticed. Like for example the hotel had a breakfast and people were all Wow-ed by that and im like "i think most brides looking for hotels, might look for one that has extras like a pool or breakfast for her guests" i mean common sense. but people gave her TONS of credit for that. So it's good to know when u go the extra mile- people appreciate it!

hi everyone!

I'm Renae. I'm 31 and a children's librarian. On 9/16/2011, my best friend and love of my life asked me to be his wife. His name is Jason and he sells mechanical-type stuff (it's complicated). Neither of us has been married (or even engaged) before and although we both adore kids, we just have 3 furry (feline) ones right now.

We haven't selected an exact date (since we just got engaged two days ago) but I really want an outdoor, botanical-themed wedding so next summer was logical. My work makes it really difficult to take time off in June/July (summer reading program) and FI wants to do our honeymoon immediately rather than waiting until I can take time in August so August 10, 18, 25 or even Sept 1st are options right now. Meeting with parents to discuss locations in two weeks and once we have a location and see what's available, we'll set the real date. FI is convinced that if we get married in my hometown that none of his family/friends will be there because they won't drive 2 hours. I told him that they aren't very good friends if they won't drive 2 hours to his wedding. HIs mom assumed we were getting married in my hometown and I think hearing his parents tell him it's okay to do that will go a long way.

It will be a fairly casual affair. Tiny, elegant, outdoor, secular ceremony (15 people). Smallish (under 100, hopefully under 75) garden bbq for a reception. We're total DIY'ers and my mom is a floral designer/event decorator, my sister is an event planner, and my FFIL is a caterer. I have friends asking to sing and make our cake (and because I want to keep things casual and "in the family" and as inexpensive as possible, I will take them up on it). For years I dreamed of the "perfect" fondant covered, glittering, towering wedding cake that made people gasp and swoon with joy when they saw it. Now that I'm marrying the perfect man, that cake doesn't seem quite so important now and my friend's cakes are delicious and quite lovely, if not "perfect". Knowing so many "wedding pros" should make things a little bit easier.

So, hello, nice to meet everyone! How are your plans coming along? I want to just sit back and enjoy being engaged for a few weeks, but at the same time, planning the wedding is just so much fun right now that i'm trying to do all the silly little things (music, thinking about favors, etc) that I know might frustrate me to have to do last minute.

Monday Weight Loss Challenges?

So I'm thinking for the whole August Bride Weight Loss thing, I could post something every Monday (or rather Sunday night for Monday reading) with a goal or tip or something and then we'll check in here every Monday. Any other suggestions- feel free - I'm only taking control cuz I need to start now LOL

Anyway, this is our first week, so lets do something simple - Small Steps. Park further away & walk, cut down on soda or other junk you know you have wayyy too much off, take a walk around the block. The basics. And prepare because soon these challenges will get harder! LOL

NWR: As some of you may know, my FI and I had two close friends pass away this last week within 4 days of each other. We had one of their funerals to go to and that was really rough. It has been a tough thing to handle, but now I am ready for the two weddings we have to attend this next weekend.
