Actual Dinner vs. Hors d'oeuvres

So, I'm researching caterers and it's occuring to me that I could potentially just do more hors d'oeuvres than our original buffet and here's why:

Our ceremony will start at 7. It'll only be about 20-30 minutes long since it won't be religious, nor are we doing anything real out of the ordinary. I imagine our receiving line won't take more than 20 minutes- so the earliest dinner would start would be at 7:45.

FI and I tend to eat dinner late around 7 or 8 on any typical night, but I know there are plenty of people that eat much earlier.

So question is, would it be okay if I focused more on hors d'oeuvres at that time- or should I stick with a dinner buffet? No matter the option, each would be set up like a buffet since the kitchen on site is a staging kitchen.

Ok so the budget is set and in categories, Guest list is in working mode, and I got the venue I have wanted since I was a little girl for less than half the venue budget!! My colors are set at pink and orange with silver accents. And now I am lost once again. Everyones posts were so helpfull and just wanted to say THANK YOU. You're my life savers.

So I was super excited Friday and yesterday, between getting all of our rings and booking the venue everything was going really great.

Then my brother called, he went back to Germany on Friday and when he went to check in yesterday they informed him that deployment orders had dropped while he was gone and he was shipping out in June to go to Afghanistan. Don't get me wrong I knew it was a chance, he is in the military but I am just so shocked and scared and don't know how to handle it quite yet. I know I have awhile to deal with it but still.

I think that worst part is that I won't be able to physically see him before he goes over there, it will be goodbye through a computer screen which makes it suck just that much more.

We aren't telling anyone besides immediate family so I have no one to vent to so I turned here because you ladies have been great.

Ceremony Music (FI's aunt is playing)

Caterer and Cake booked

Tuxedos picked out and deposit paid

Invitations and reply cards bought

Miscellaneous stuff bought (cake cutters, table seat numbers etc...)

I got a card in the mail today and I was confused because its not my birthday or FI's lol so I open it and its a to the bride and groom card followed by a check and note.

My Uncle decided to send us a present early, I was in such shock I called FI and then tried to call my Uncle. I can't even believe it.

Just had to share it's been a busy day with the fam!

Well I am happy to announce we have FINALLY found our venue and set the date!!! Contract is signed deposit is sent... I finally have a major check accomplished. I am officially a May 18 bride yay!!!!

So as you all might remember I have been without my engagement ring for 3 months due to a cracked stone. I finally got it back last night and was super excitd.
I wore it to dinner with my family, then took it off because I went to the gym and then slept so I didn't want to risk anything chipping it again. I woke up this morning and put all my jewelry on before heading to work. As I was driving I noticed the same stone that had just been replaced was MISSING.

Really I wore it for maybe 3 hours last night and it already fell out. So I called corporate and they are offering me an even exchange of my ring to replace it. I am so mad, I really like my ring but I guess going with a different ring that has a solitaire diamond in top will be the better option. Sucks because I really do love it.

So FI and I are going shopping for a new ring this weekend. UGH any suggestions?

Who's going to be in your wedding party? Siblings, friends, cousins? Flower girl, ring bearer?

We've decided on a very small and non-traditional bridal party. My best friend (we've been friends since we were three years old!) is going to be my "man of honor" and my FI's sister is going to be his "best lady". I don't have any sibilings or cousins near my age, and my FI has no other siblings and too many cousins to count. We really wanted to incorporate people who had always been in our lives and who would always be there for us.

So six hours later I finally finished our cake topper... I am so happy with how it turned out and I think FI likes it a lot too...

Before Primer,Paint, and Rhinestones...

After primer, paint, rhinestones, and every episode of American Idol and David Tutera weddings that were saved on my DVR... lol I ordered some smaller rhinestones I am thinking about putting on the J and to fill in some smaller spaces. I will post the directions tomorrow in my planning bio. I am exhausted!!!

We booked our DJ yesterday! I feel SO relieved, the DJ was the one thing I was definitely not looking forward to finding. We were at my friend's wedding a few weeks ago though & loved who she used so we met with them last week.

They're at the tippy top of our budget (even after getting them to come down a full $1000 from the original quote) but I think they're definitely worth it since we've seen them work & know they're good. Our reception will revolve around dancing so this was something that's really important to us.

I was really stressing yesterday because I really wanted to book with them but was concerned about the price. I chatted with my mom who put it into perspective: at my friend's wedding I have no recollection of her centerpieces or cake but I definitely remember how great the DJ was & how we danced our booties off! I called & put down the deposit as soon as I got off the phone with her! I'm so happy that's done!

When are you meeting with your florist? I am meeting with my coordinator on Saturday and we are going to discuss when I want to meet with the florist. I was thinking around May because we can see what flowers are in bloom.
