I just got an email from our designer/decorator. A few weeks back, I'd been approached by a woman who works with the venue to do lighting, but we'd already set that up through our decorator, so we said thanks, but no thanks.

But so just now the designer we are working with emails that THAT woman emailed her about working together and changing the lighting plan. Yes, it'd save us a little bit of money, but honestly, I told her, "Papers are signed. I don't want to change things. We have four days. Let it go."

Now, my decorator's just doing her job and approaching me, and I'm glad she did, but this other woman makes me laugh. Who approaches a couple getting married FOUR DAYS AWAY to change their reception design and set-up?

The forecast for this Saturday for my wedding location just went from sunny and warm (yesterday) to a 50% chance of rain with a cold front moving in, the lows hiting 37!!!! 37 at the beginning of Oct in KENTUCKY?! Are you kidding me?!?!?! It's the only day with rain forecast in the foreseeable future!!!!!!!!!!

UGHHHH! We were supposed to get married outside of the barn, and then have the reception immediately following in the barn. I really, really, really, REALLY don't want to have the ceremony in the barn, then have to clean up and rearrange everything for the reception while our guests stand around. It's also breaking my heart to have to find a last minute tent and pay for it.

What would you ladies do? Anyone else in a similar situation?

So here's the thing. Our ceremony venue and reception venue are roughly a half-block from each other. They're within walking distance. We want to give plenty of time for us to take pictures and I kind of screwed up on the invitations. Our ceremony is at 3:30, we're expecting to be done around 3:45-3:50. On the invitations, I put the reception would begin at approximately 5:00, which only gives us an hour to do all our photos (we aren't doing a first look). I was wanting to push our entrance back to 5:30, but I don't want to have an hour and a half gap for people to wander around aimlessly.

I know most people fill this with a cocktail hour ... first off, our venue doesn't allow alcohol (city-owned), and second off, we don't have the budget to fill this time in with extra drinks or food. Would it be appropriate to just open the reception hall to guests at 4:30 (or maybe earlier), have music playing, and maybe have a light snack available like popcorn or cotton candy (which would fit our amusement park theme)? And then we show up at 5:30 for our grand entrance. Or would that be too long of a gap without a real filler?

I'm really overly concerned about leaving a huge gap for people to get bored in because of a wedding I went to in April (that broke pretty much every etiquette rule there is) where there was a 3 hour gap between ceremony and reception so that the bridal party could go bar hopping and get drunk before the reception. I don't want to come across as rude and abandoning our guests, but I want time for photos!

And yes, I realize 5 days out is kind of last minute to be thinking about this but I was trying to finalize our timeline and panicked.

Ok, so I've been freaking out about how to pay for our rental car during our honeymoon. We're going to be in California for 7 days and will be going all over SoCal, so a rental is really the only option. I've been searching for several weeks now, and I was coming up with really consistent figures of around $300 for the rental.

I tried every discount site I could come up with ... my brother suggested rentalcarmomma, and I was kind of underwhelmed by what it had to offer. Tried Kayak, it came up with some really cheap rentals from Thrifty. I'm all about going cheap... but when every single review on Yelp and Trip Advisor about a particular rental location was negative and said they'd had to wait over an hour and a half for a car (if they were able to get one), I'd rather pay a little more and not have to deal with a headache to start off the trip.

Googled, and googled, and googled. Came across a site all about how to use the bidding process on Hotwire and Priceline, and some really good advice on how to get bids accepted. Finally took the plunge, put in a bid ... and it got rejected. It offered to let me rebid (usually you have to wait 24 hours) if I increased the price by $4/day (I originally bid $14). I did so, and it accepted it!! Yes!!

I've been pricing "standard" size cars and consistently come up with around $300 for the week - and going down in class didn't make enough of a difference to make it even worth looking at. The lowest I found was I think through Budget, at $289. The Priceline winning bid went to Avis. I had looked it up earlier, and for the same rental it was $316.

My winning bid came out to $161 for the week! I can't believe it!! $150 less than even discounted retail price. I want to run around yelling how awesome I am right now, lol. I spent probably 4 hours researching on Google this morning, but it's totally worth it right now!!

I had blacked out or something.

The DJ announced us for our first dance and FI was in jeans and a polo! lol, I got up there and asked him "Where's your tux!?" He said that his Aunt (who in the dream was in charge of gathering the tuxes at the end of the night to return them for everyone the next day) told him to take it off so she could take them back right then! haha, I told him "NO, you need to go put it back on! Our photographer is still taking pictures!"

Then I asked my dad what had happened, that I didn't remember anything and he said I had been going around and talking to people. I went over to a table with some of my family members and chatted with them for a bit, but then I looked around and a lot of people were missing. So I asked my dad where they were and he said they left, including my Matron of Honor (my sister) and one of my bridesmaids! lol, the reception was basically bare and it was only 8:30 p.m. I started crying and then woke up.

:-) The dreams just seem to be getting CRAZIER and more life like.
I am getting my tips ready for Thursday (eeeek!) and I'm not sure how to tip the photographers. My photographer is the only "employee" in his business and he doesn't have an official partner. However, we chose a package with him that includes two photographers. The way he works is he just chooses one of his professional friends to work with and lets the bride and groom know a month before the wedding who that person will be. I now know the name of our second photographer and have seen lots of her work, and I'm really excited to see how our pictures will turn out.

Anyway, I am not sure how to do the tipping. Do we tip each photographer the same amount? Or do I tip the guy we actually "hired" more, since he's the one who attended two meetings with us, did our engagement pics, and has answered all of my questions for the past ten months?

I was thinking about putting a large tip in one envelope and handing it to him, then letting him determine how the tip will be divided. I trust him to share it as he sees fit, but I do want to make sure the second photographer gets something.

WDYT? Anyone else in that situation, and what are you doing?

I was given an awesome lingerie shower this past weekend. It was so much fun. Now, though, I wasn't sure if I should send thank you notes. It seems a little weird lol. I also have never received one when giving a gift to a bride.

I thought maybe I would just send a thank you note to the ones who hosted the shower. What do y'all think?

We ordered a guestbook from someone on Etsy and just got it in the mail today. And we love it. It's custom made with little gnomes all through it (FI loves gnomes and I tried to have them here and there as a nod to him). Each page is different and has little gnome couples throughout the book and it's in all my wedding colors! So excited for my guests to see it in 4 days!

I'm disappointed with my MOH. Not because I expected her to plan a shower. Because she promised me she would, and that it will most likely be a surprise shower because she loves throwing surprise showers. So I stopped inquiring about it months ago. Until I realized last week that "gee, isn't it cutting it a little close". I still didn't say anything because I didn't know what to say. Then today "Oh, we need to figure out your shower and bachelorette. We should co-plan it so you can get exactly what you want."

I explained to her that it's probably too late to do anything now, and while she can ask my opinion on things, I'm not supposed to plan my own shower. Her exact words were "I'm sorry, I'm not a very good planner and I don't know anything about weddings I wish you nagged me more". I told her I accept her apology, and I am sorry for not saying something sooner, only because I didn't want to come off as a bridezilla. I told her I hoped she didn't feel pressured to plan something she didn;t want to plan, but then she said "i wanted to plan it, i just put it off, I'm so sorry". We made up. I moved on.

Now I find out she has contacted my FMIL for help. That is fine, but I really don't know if this should be happening at all. I don't want to refuse it because I would love to have a shower, but I also know that people won't appreciate the last minute notice, and not that many people will me able to make it. I don't want to ruffle any feathers or make things worse.
