Hi! Just wanted to introduce myself, I have been engaged since April and a definite "lurker" on the boards. My wedding date is 10/5/13 and I hope the day is as nice as it is today in NJ! We have booked our church, venue, DJ, Photographer, Hotel room block/day after breakfast, but I know we still have tons to do and I'm really excited!

I have read that I should start meeting with wedding officiants or JPs now. Has anyone started looking or already have one? We are not getting married in a church, we are having our ceremony at the same place where our reception is going to be. I am not sure when to start meeting with them.

Also, I got my wedding dress in a couple weeks ago and I was wondering when I should start with the alterations. I feel like it might be too soon right now but I am not sure. Any ideas?

SO I am dress shopping tomorrow. The plan is to come home with a dress. I am flying down to DC to a Brides against breast cancer event. They have discounted dresses and the proceeds go to a good cause. Plus I'm doing a VIP event where i get to sip on drinks while dress shopping.

I got my dress! I cannot believe how "easy" it was and I am so happy I had the "this is definitely my dress" moment. I am usually very picky and indecisive so this was a pleasant surprise! Onward to more planning activities! :) thanks for listening!

Save the Dates (PIP)

I made my save the dates out of 2x2 travertine tiles (I saw this idea online) and attached a magnet to the back of them. I hand stamped a pumpkin outline on the tile and then just filled them in with a paint marker. I want to get some opinions on these. Do they look ok? Also, I am going to put the date on the bottom but I am unsure are to whether I should put our names on them or just put "Save the Date". I sent one to my sister (she lives in FL) and she really liked them but the one I sent her had our names on it and the date and she said it was a little confusing. I was thinking about also maybe including a business card of some sort that has the location and our wedding website on it. My sister suggested putting the location on the back instead of including a card. Any suggestions?

This is a rant post/needing advice....

I have asked my BFF several times for her opinions about this or that. Her response to me is, 'Whatever you like'. I value her opinion that's why I asked her for help in the first place. I am not close to very many people, plus I don't want ten thousand different opinions. With my mom her opinion is given weather or not you want it.

On Sat I asked my BFF what her price range was & she told me that it was up to me & my FI. I asked her why style dress she liked, short sleeve, spaghetti strap, strapless, short, long, and all I got was it was up to the bride (me). I totally understand that I get final say so, but I wanted to know what her preferences were when shopping for dresses. I don't want something that is going to look hedious on her! I am not a fashion person what so ever! I'm a jeans & baggy T-shirt kinda girl. I had asked her opinion cuz she is wheelechair bound & don't want the possibility of a dress getting all caught up in her chair.

I just don't know what to do about her. My FI has told me that he will talk to her, but I don't want him to do that. I am stressing about little details here & there. I know that I shouldn't since I still have 13 months to go, but that's just my nature.... I stress over one detail & once I know that part I move on to the next.

My other rant happens to be with my mother.....

I have told her time & again that this wedding is going to be a simple affair, on the business casual side. My mom insists on my dad wearing either a suit or a sports coat. Mom is going to wear a dress. I have told her that she will be fine in either a pant suit or some slacks & a nice blouse. Heck my FI isn't wearing a suit or a sports coat. He is going to be in black jeans, a white dress shirt, boots, belt, & cowboy hat (the western look) which is what I want... When we went dress shopping last week & was asked what type of wedding it was going to be mom popped off before I had a chase to say ANYTHING she said Semi Formal. Oh this made me so MAD! It's like she didn't care what we had already decided, she has made up her mind how she wanted it from the second that we said we were getting married. She paid for the last one in full & this time she is only contributing a small monetary amount, which is totally helpful. I just feel like she is trying to run the show as she always does. This irritates me & when I get upset I end up looking like the bad guy. I just don't know what to do.... I think that my mom likes to make it look like she is better than everyone else, idk..

Oh mom also told me that she thinks since it's a wedding that FI needs to be in either a suit or a coat & I should wear white so that I look like a bride. This is mine & his second wedding.

Color Snag

I was going to do Concord, Forest, and Ivory for the colors but I've hit a snag for centerpieces. I may now throw in red. Do you think this is too busy?

They would be wrapped in green velvet 3 to a table, with silk pansies bellow. We will try to incorporate a purple dragonfly as well in each centerpiece.

Note we are doing a masquerade ball, and there will be a beauty and the beast/dragonfly undertoning too. The venue is a castle so everything will be ball themed and big big big.

So do I do this or do I go find a different candlabra for the centerpieces?

First, I was going through my PMs and I have 5 of them and didn't know. Please, please, please if you send someone a PM give them a shout out **stina51286** would be the headline of your post. That way, who ever you are sending it to, will know. I don't think TK sends out notifications for PMs.

Secondly, one of you knotties PMed me about a potential FB private group/page. I do it with another board I am on and am willing to start one for October 2013 ladies if people are interested. If so, please send me a way to find you on FB and I will add you as a friend. Once we are friends, I can add you into the group and we can chat, ask questions, send pictures all that stuff esp since TK eats things a lot. One issue with the FB page though is this board will slow down even more, and we don't want that.

Let me know your thoughts and I will take everything into consideration.

Visited our Ceremony Site Yesterday!

We visited our ceremony site yesterday & decided on how we are going to do our "Letter to the bride and groom" section. Since our reception location was a stagecoach stop back in the day and I love handwritten letters we're going to stock up on old postcards and get a the white mailbox from weddingstar for the completed ones.

Got butterflies when we stood in the place where we will be saying our vows only 12.5 months from now! WOW

Part of the Oldest Mountain range on earth! Pardon the blue but it is the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The venue we are planning to switch to has our date open for next year! YAY!!!! They have placed it on hold through the next month so we can finalize our decision and come up to see the location. The hold is because we live 4 hours away :). I'm so excited we may have a venue nailed very soon!

Asking/Thanking wedding party

Last night I asked the last of my girls to be one of my bridesmaids. I got so excited since now I have my 3 closest friends, his sister and my sister in my wedding party. Unfortunately all my girls live a distance from each other, so I wanted to send each girl something special to thank them ahead of time for being a bridesmaid and supporting me through this that they can get around the 365 day mark since I'll be with my MOH that day anyways.

Anyone have any thoughts? I know this would typically be asked on the Wedding party board, but I didn't see any fun ideas, and my fellow October girls have the best ideas anyways.

I thought we had a flower girl lined up for next year. She's five and very sweet related to my fiance. Problem arises when one of her parents the one not related to my fiance removes said child and starts a bitter custody battle. Uhg..... So angry not because of my wedding but for the little one's sake here.

Issue is now I probably have no flower girl. My daughter will be 10 and giving me away. My friends have mostly male children. I'm now in a sticky situation of how to find a child for a flower girl. How old is too old for a flower girl so as I spend the next month reviewing who has what child I can make a new decision on who will toss the flowers. Fiance also has a family member with two girls one will be 8 and one will be 7 so I'm leaning towards that route right now.

Accent Color for MOH?

I am leaning towards Eggplant (Alfred Angelo) for my bridesmaid dresses, but I would like to have my MOH stand out. I was thinking of putting her in an accent colored dress. So what I would like to know is:

* If this would just look a hot mess and 18 kinds of stupid
* If it is by chance a good idea, then maybe someone could suggest some good accent colors for Eggplant, cause I'm just no good at this kind of thing
