We really want to get hitched next August. Not only because I am a teacher and have the time off, but because our anniversary of when we started dating is on August 23rd. We are set on a destination wedding, but are unable to find a location that is non-rainy and hurricane free for this time of year. We just want a pretty backdrop and an affordable cost for our guests as we all live in Winnipeg, MB. Any suggestions?

..where do/did you GO? More pointedly, where do/did you stop?

I don't know if that makes sense, so I'll try to clarify, haha. This has been bugging me, probably because the last wedding I went to wasn't exactly the most shining example. I've since realized that I never really noticed where the bride and groom go once they make the walk back up the aisle as husband and wife. I've just kind of been thinking about where we.. go.. once the ceremony is over. Where are you guys planning on stopping after you proceed back up the aisle? Or for those already on the other side, how did this work for you? Maybe this doesn't even apply in my case since my guest list is so small and it will likely be standing-room-only so to speak. I know some of you ladies get married in some pretty unique places outdoors and also with guest lists trending toward the smaller end on the spectrum, so I'm still curious at any rate. Maybe our families will make this moot and intercept us with hugs and happiness after it's all over so I won't even need to worry about it, hah. TIA!

Siggy Challenge

It's that time again to update our Siggys! Each week the girls post a different picture in their siggy. This gives each of us an opportunity to show off just a little bit more of our lives to everyone on the board. Eventually this (page and the siggy challenge information) will be passed onto another DW bride to continue. Siggy challenges will be called out officially on Sundays every week. This weeks Siggy Challenge 9/1/13-9/7: Groomsman Gifts If you can't change your siggy post it in the thread so we can all see!!! ***To put a picture into your siggy, you'll need to log into your "The Knot" Profile (NOT your bio!). After you login to your account, click on My Knot in the upper left hand corner. Next, click on My Bio which is located sort of in the middle but slightly to the right towards the top. Then, click on Edit My Avatar & Sig located on the top directly under where it says My Bio. From here you will scroll down and put the following into the box that says Edit My Message Board Signature In that box, paste the following code: replacing "tinyurlhere" with your personal tinyurl for that week's picture. Save your changes and your picture should now show up in your siggy! In order to get your tiny url go to tinyurl.com and there are instructions there. What I personally do (which is a lot easier to me) is I have a photobucket account(which is free) and right after you upload the picture you can just over over the picture and it gives you the link to just copy and paste into your siggy. You would put the code

I have always dreamed of eloping to a beach somewhere. Thankfully, my fiance (sort of) agreed with me. Only, he wants immediate family and close friends vs. just the two of us. Which was completely fine by me... until several people began to be negative and voice their opinions openly with me: "Destination weddings are selfish", etc. Has anyone else had to deal with Debbie Downers?

Invitation lists - DW and AHR

Hi Guys,

We are planning a DW and later a casual reception back home. I feel like we should just invite everyone to both, but my FMIL thinks we should only invite some people to the wedding and then all to the local reception. I'm worried that may seem rude and think that people can decide for themselves what they want to go to, but she is worried people might feel obligated to come to the DW (and that it seems gift grabby).

Did you have separate lists for your DW and AHR (if you had one), or did you invite everyone to the DW from the get go?

Also, did you invite less people to your DW then you would have had you had a local wedding, or did you invite everyone you would have invited to a local shindig?

And I confess I was really annoyed that someone turned our thermostat up at work to 77 and it got super hot and I was so tired this morning I forgot to put deodorant on ( on one armpit) so I did get at least one but still I hate when those things happen

A little late, but better than never. We've written our first big check for the wedding. The photographer. (My dress was bought in June, but since my mom paid for it, I'm not counting it.) Amazingly, it's difficult to find one in Cozumel when you aren't getting married on a resort, but no worries. We managed to find the perfect pair. A husband/wife team who live part time on the island and know how to shoot there! Can't wait! We'll need to bite the bullet for the rehearsal dinner soon too. Can't let someone else book our pirate cruise! Can't believe it's all getting so close. It's been a long engagement but now we are less than 9 months out!

Hello,

My FI and I are planning a destination wedding in the Bahamas in September 2014. We are inviting about 50 guests to joins us but plan to do a large casual reception back home (Massachusetts) where we will invite all 200 guests. I am stumped as to how do to the invitations. I want to put some wording on the invitation to indicate that there will be a reception when we return to the states to give our guests the option of traveling to the Bahamas or attending the reception at home or both.

Also, I plan to do save-the-dates to give people the heads up on our upcoming destination wedding. When do I send out save-the dates and invitations for a destination wedding. I want to give people enough time to save if they do want to travel with us.

Hoping for a DW

My fiance and I are in the process of looking at a venue for our wedding and reception. He is very concerned about the amount of money our venue could potentially cost. It doesn't help that his sister is getting married in September and has found a reception site for no cost and every place we look at costs over $1,000. I am trying to convince him that having a small intimate wedding in Mexico is the way to go, however he thinks it is going to cost a lot more than having it at home. How do I convince him that having a destination wedding will cost less and be less stressful than having it at home? Does anyone know of any good websites to use?

Giving guests enough notice for a DW

Hi Guys,

I was wondering how much before your DW you sent out STDs?

I'm at just about 7 months before the wedding and wondering if it's giving people enough notice. What do you think? While we've mentioned that we were planning a DW for the past year we just booked our venue and hotel and know the specifics. I'm finishing up a wedding website which has extensive information on all the travel aspects and hopefully that's helpful.

We are realistic and understanding that many people won't be able to make the trip regardless of course.

Addressing apartments and numbered streets

This is probably such a stupid question, but I'm having a Monday funk.

I am using an informal addressing, such as Katie and John Smith instead of Mr. and Mrs. John Smith. If they live in an apartment or condo on a numbered street, am I supposed to spell anything out? A few examples below because I'm crazy.

Katie and John Smith

123 Eighteenth Street, Apartment Seven

Katie and John Smith

123 Eighteenth Street, Apartment 7

Katie and John Smith

123 18th Street, Apartment Seven

Katie and John Smith

123 18th Street, Apartment 7

Which one is the best option? And should I write out Apartment? What if it's a condo? Should I say Number 7?

Also, I have one guest who lives on 7 Mile Road, which apparently is never spelled out as Seven Mile Road. I should stick to 7 even if it looks weird, yes?

destination wedding - bridesmaid backdown

My best friend is having a destination wedding in October. She asked me to be her one bridesmaid, which I said absolutely yes to. I have been there for her helping plan the wedding, join a gym, go dress shopping. Everything. I have even purchased my bridesmaid dress. The problem is, I just found out my mom will be going in to surgery the day I am to fly out, and will be in recovery until I fly home. I can't imagine not being there at her surgery, yet alone being out of the country tthe entire time she is in the hospital. Because of this, I feel it necessary to back out of the wedding. My family is extremely to me, and I wholeheartedly think hone is where I should be. I just worry that it is wrong to back out so late. I know she has already bought our wedding jewlery, and even gifts. I don't want to upset my best friend, but she would have to understand. Right? She is having a ceremony / reception back home in the spring, which I would like to still be part of. Is it wrong to hope that, after backing out of the main wedding? I have so many feelings going through me right now, I don't even know what to think. I just know I need to break the news to her ASAP.
