Hello Ladies- I am so excited to be planning my destination wedding! I am new to the board and feel like I have done a sufficient amount of lurking to make sure I am not breaking any protocol here. I am in the very beginning stages of planning our DW in playa del carmen. we are anticipating 100-125 guests. We have our hearts set on a reception area that is covered but open air. The woman I am working with says this cannot be done, but I simply cannot believe that. Does anyone have any tips/recommendations on resorts that do a good job of accommodating such a large party? Thanks in advance for your help, I am really looking forward to sharing and collaborating with you ladies!

Hello, Ladies. I got into Columbus a little while ago and am now enjoying room service in my big king size bed. As much as I hate coming here, the mini vacation from the office and home responsibilities is pretty good.

What does everyone have going on for Wednesday? I'll be at my summit all day. Another 12 hour day. YIKES! And I have to be down there at 7:30. That's going to feel like 4:30am. Double YIKES!

Hi everyone! I'm new here. We have finally decided on Dreams PuntaCana Resort in the Dominican Republic for our wedding next Sept. 21st and have booked the Wedding Gazebo. We thought we did enough research before making the selection but now are starting to see reviews of this resort that have me second guessing our decision. We have been assigned Yessica as our Wedding Coordinator and are working with Jaimi at Beach Bum Vacations but I am still starting to doubt. Have any brides gotten married at Dreams that can reassure me that we are going to have our dream wedding in 10 months?

Hi everybody! I've been lurking (while I was finishing school) but now that I've graduated I'm ready to get down and dirty with wedding planning =) First I'd like to say thank you all for having such an awesomely informative and supportive board. I'm always excited to read your posts.

My name is Christina, FI and I are planning a wedding in Puerto Rico next summer. I have family there which makes it more affordable for my local family to travel and stay. FI is Asian-American (hence the name Chan) and we're excited to bring a little bit of both cultures into our celebration.

We have a tentative date but no set venue. I have a general vision but nothing set in stone. I'm always up for suggestions and advice and always willing to share info and help anyone else if I can.

Ok ladies today is my 1 MONTH mark!!!!!! Holy crap!!!! I am so excited and I can't believe how fast time is flying now!!!!!

Then I have a few checks to report!!

One is totally unexpected lol! I emailed the Jamaica Board of Tourism in Florida and asked for brouchures about Montego Bay Jamaica. Anyways... I never heard back from them. Then yesterday the UPS guy shows up and brought me a package that I had no clue what it was lol! Well he handed it to me and it was so heavy! I got it inside and opened it and the tourism board sent me 27 magazines about Jamaica!!!! They are huge and have lists of restaurants, activities, has stuff about Jamaica's history and even important info and phone numbers!!!! They were totally free and I am so excited! I am planning to put them in my OOT bags!!!

Then FI and I went shopping last night and FINALLY got his outfit... Well his shirt and pants at least. We still need his belt, tie, and shoes....

We found these pants at Dillards and they were on sale from $75 to $45! Score (CLICKY) I am either going to take out the string or FI's belt will just go over it so you don't see it.

This shirt is light weight and has a pin stripe in it! It looks great on FI! He is going to have his tucked in with the sleeves rolled up and a tie!

Hi ladies!
I've poked around here before and have seen how helpful everyone is so I was hoping to get some input. I've never heard of the Excellence Reosrts before but they are all inclusive and it seems like a great deal. my FI and I have been going back and forth between having a destionation wedding at an all inclusive resort, in which case about 20 guests would be attending, or just having it at home in our back yard. We can't seem to make up our minds so I was just wondering if any of you have had a wedding at an all inclusive resort or are planning one. Also has anyone been to an Excellence resort? Any feedback would be great! Thanks ladies!

So I will start by saying my bachelorette party was AWESOME. There were 10 of us that rented a beach house for the weekend down at Folly Beach in SC. We stayed in and chilled Friday night and then went to the beach all day on Saturday followed by a night out in Charleston Saturday night. I def drank way too much and got super embarrassed by a little came they called "hot potato" but instead of potato it was something very inappropriate. Anyway, I love my friends and everyone is SO excited for CR.

But now the wedding is SOOO close and I am stressing about little details that I need to figure out as soon as possible. The main one being my luggage. I looked in our wedding room at our house (yes we have a room full of wedding stuff HAHA) and now that we have everything in for the wedding it hit me how much we are taking to CR with us. Candles, paper lanterns, wish lanterns, fans, stationary and 2 weeks of clothes, etc. Is anyone else taking lots of stuff and wondering how the hell you are going to get it down there ??? I am scared to ship but also do not want to have to pay a ton for checked bags + the fear of them being lost. AHHHHH.

Hola ladies! I wanted to jump in rel quick to say hello! The wedding and everything went so great. Some minor drama but nothing major. Now I am relaxing in the bath at our honeymoon hotel. Trying to soak my aching feet. Can't upload pics from my iPad but if u go to my Facebook some have been tagged-including one of us with the knottie knot! My photog thought it was so great. Hi ladies!! How was your weekend? Did you keep your fitness goals in check? What are your mini-goals for this week?

Soo I completly busted my toe yesterday when we were out walking around!! I don't think it's broken but it hurts really bad where I hit it and where there's a scab. Ugh. I couldn't run this morning and have a big half marathon this weekend so I hope it shapes up.

Yesterday we went out for brunch so I had mimosas and an omlette for breakfast, lunch was ice cream and dinner was gnocchi... haha kind of a random day! :)

The Latest on the Other Shower

I finally got my invitation to the last shower. The shower is less than a month away. You know, the shower I don't want to do. The one on a day that I said didn't work for me, many times, but it didn't matter. As a result, my daughter won't be able to go because she has her dragon boat races all weekend. Yeah, the shower is the huge weekend of the Rose Festival here in Portland. My hula group will also be performing that day at the Rose Festival and I will have to miss that, too. I know, I should be grateful for another shower, but it's hard to be grateful for something you didn't want on a day that doesn't work for you. Plus, I'm bummed to be missing my daughter's races and the hula performance.

So the invitation came on Saturday. Before it came I had told Drew his mom was going to make the invitation herself to be to put her "art work" on it so she could tell everyone she made it and sign her name on the front of every invitation. Sure enough, it was a picture she had taken of a pineapple and she signed her name all big on the front of it. Oh, but it get's better.

Inside the invitation is all hand written. She loves her handwriting and writing really big and twirly, so I wasn't surprised to see this at all. She writes out everything. Even if we ask her to email us something, she won't do it and has to write it out. It says the shower is for me, but with my full name. No one except for my co-workers call me by my formal name. Almost everyone else calls me Kimmy. Than it explains who I am- (Financee to Drew his last name.) Yes, written just like that.

First I think it's weird to have to explain in an invitation who I am. If they don't know who I am then they shouldn't be invited. If you have to explain to everyone who I am, then you shouldn't be throwing me a shower full of strangers. And why use my formal name that no one knows me by, but use Drew's nickname?

Then I noticed fiance is spelled wrong. Wait? What? I must be misreading this. I check again and sure enough it has an extra n and an extra e. I check my daughter's invitation and it's spelled wrong there, too. It's not a typo, but an actual misspelling done over and over. I can't believe it. And to think, she was a school teacher.

I pointed this out to Drew and now we can't stop making jokes about it. We are now each other's financees. I know, we are horrible. But, it's just too easy! Especially since when ever I type it auto correct and spell check want to correct it.

We had his parent's over yesterday for the Mother's Day. I made a brunch for everyone. She never once brought up the shower. When they were leaving, my daughter told Drew's mom that she wouldn't be able to go to the shower. His mom acted like she had no idea that I had told her that wasn't a good day for the shower. Aww, yeah. I'm sure she won't have anything I can eat at the shower, either. It'll be interesting to see how this goes....

Well we are getting ready to head to the hotel since our flight leaves early tomorrow. I've been dreading my LP because I'm gonna get sad, you all mean a lot to me and I'm sad for my journey to be over, but I'm so excited to have been able to see all the old marrieds days unfold and now I get to watch everyone else have their dream wedding! I came to this board looking for ideas on DWs. What I didn't think would happen was I met so many wonderful ladies and made some really great friends! I really do hope we can all meet one day. All you ladies are so special to me! I wasn't able to share my planning with anyone so to have a group of ladies with whom I could share things with meant a lot. You are all so sweet, honest, understanding, and sincere. You gave me honest opinions, always gave me great advice, and listened when I complained about work and my friends issues. Without you ladies, I wouldn't know what Pinterest was or know about great deals on Groupon I was missing out on. I also had never heard of Etsy until someone on the board mentioned it and I ended up buying lots of stuff from there.....thanks, I think ; ) I'm so excited to have let my secret out last night, it worked out so well. I thank you all for not judging me when I mentioned I wasn't telling anyone. It was hard for me to do but to have all your support was great. I truely wish you all lived near me so we could get together with our wine bags and ice scrapers! That's another thing....you ladies have made me laugh so much during these last 9 months. FI was always looking at me and them I'd have to explain what was so funny. Now that my rambling is over, I just really want to thank all of you for being so welcoming when I first started posting. Some of you have been on this board for a while and it's nice to see how you open your arms to everyone! I can't wait to come back as an old married and show you ladies, my friends, my pics and tell you all about my big day. Love you all!! Knottie Knot - About the Tradition!

The Knottie Knot is a piece of wood, plastic or metal that has been decorated in a wedding theme by a previous bride. There are a few in circulation, each of which has been made by different people, and no two Knottie Knots are the same. Each has string or ribbon attached to it which then has been adorned with postcards full advice from the Destination Brides that came before you.

When a bride gets married, she buys a postcard from her wedding location. On this she writes her thoughts, advice and wishes on it for the brides that will follow her and then attaches it to the ribbons. She then sends it on to the next person in line.

The idea is that you wait until your wedding day, and on that day you read all the beautiful things that those who have come before you on our board have written. This tradition has been going since 2007, and a lot of Knotties have enjoyed participating in it. This is one of those great traditions that makes the Destination Wedding board one of the really close knit boards on The Knot.

There are only 3 rules for those who wish to participate in the Knottie Knot tradition:

1. You must be an active poster on the Destination Wedding board.
2. You must mail the Knottie Knot the to the next person via Priority Mail with a tracking number.
3. You MUST enjoy both reading the advice and sharing the advice with the brides to come :)
