Thanksgiving Wedding- A No-No, or a Great Idea?

Hey all,

My name is Elle, and it's very nice to meet all of you digitally :) My fiancee and I just got engaged like 2 weeks ago, and we are very excited!

Our wedding planning needs to start ASAP as we will be getting married in Israel. My fiancee's entire family lives there, and I have a lot of family there as well. We will be visiting Israel in January and hope to find a venue for an October-November wedding.

I obviously understand that with a destination wedding in a place like Israel (far away, expensive to get to, etc), a lot of my friends will not be able to come.

My question is: If we plan on a Novemeber wedding, should we plan it over Thanksgiving? On one hand, Thanksgiving is a holiday where a lot of people want to be at home/are expected to be at home. On the other hand, it's a time when a lot of people have off, perhaps maing it easier for people to come.

What do y'all think? Keep in mind that I'm from the South--so many of my friends come from traditional families (for my family, as they are immigrants, Thanksgiving was not as big of a deal).

Looking for blue wedding dresses

I want to wear a blue dress at my wedding. I'm having a hard time finding them, even online. Mostly I'm looking at bridesmaid dresses, but most of them aren't cut the way I'd like. Ideally I would find a trumpet/fit 'n' flare style midnight or sapphire blue gown.

Anyone know where I should look?

My Mom knows me too well. Yesterday she told me her plans for the shower she is going to throw me in the spring. She knows I am not into the traditional sit around and eat tiny egg salad sandwiches and watch the bride open gifts kind of thing so she came up with the idea to do a Pizza & Beer come and go shower. She wants to have “Mug Shots” done of the bridal party and have them displayed. She sounds like she has some great ideas and I couldn’t be more excited!

Unfortunately FI told his mom the idea last night and she got pretty upset. I wasn’t there but apparently she broke down and started crying, in between sobs FI heard “I Want To Make Deviled Eggs!” She is seriously too cute.

Looks like I am going to have to go sit down with FMIL and get her thoughts and ideas and try to merge them together.

Yacht wedding --- advice?

My fiance and I are getting married in October 2013 and have started thinking about having the wedding on a yacht. We live in Orange County, CA and have found a local company that offers pretty all-inclusive packages that are very reasonable. This is my second wedding, his first, and we are looking for something small, intimate and romantic.

Does anyone have any experience and/or advice to share on this?

I'm incorporating my fiancee's and my favorite poem, The Owl and the Pussycat, into our wedding as much as possible, and would love to hear any ideas you have on how to do that! One thing I can't quite decide how to do: we have a normal size calendar with the various verses and illustrations from the poem that I'd like to use (one monthly calendar page per each of our twelve reception dinner tables) either framed or some other way. I'd like the theme of the wedding to be a mix of quirky, vintage and whimsical (our venue is an old country church turned into a wedding venue).

Any clever ideas out there? Maybe a clever signature drink or two based on the theme, too? I would be so grateful for the help! Thanks!

Sorry ladies, I disappeared for a bit there. My computer, which we knew was on its last legs, finally bit the dust. I'm on the work computer quickly checking in this morning to let you ladies know. For some reason TK struggles to work on my phone... I got one reply on a thread here on it and then it stopped last attempted lol
BUT good news is my awesome DH is buying me a playbook tonight. They have a great sale on here, and I've been wanting one for the business! So as of tonight I'll have a way to get on here again :)

Looking for some opinions here...

For after the ceremony when we walk down the isle, I wan't something kind of fun to capture the moment... I have always been in love with the little tune "Grow Old With You" by Adam Sandler (from the Wedding Singer!) ...

We would probably have a friend sing it and record it, or find a different cover of it, but I think he sums it all up so perfectly!

Is this a little weird? I'm walking down the isle to traditional music, so I'm worried they won't mesh well.

We aren't having a tradtional reception, just a nice supper (no dancing or dj, its a small, family only wedding) so I feel like this is the only time to play it really....

Any feedback would be great!

Labyrinth/Enchanted Forest/Rococo

My boyfriend and I are in the early stages of planning our wedding. We're both big fans of the Labyrinth (and I managed to snag a man who resembles Jareth) and we're also both into very elaborate Rococo aesthetics, ideally with an organic decadent fairy tale twist. I'm planning to do an 18th century style gown, possibly with a really good wig, or enough hair peices to make a proper rococo up do. Our first dance song is going to be "As The World Falls Down" by Bowie... we're excited.

Tattoo wedding "rings"

Hi there,

My fiance and I are going to get wedding symbols tattooed on instead of wearing rings. He works in a place where he couldn't wear a ring and we both like tattoos, so it works for us. We are still going to exchange something during the ceremony.

The only thing I am trying to contemplate/get advice on would be when to have the symbols tattooed on? Before the ceremony? After the reception? After the honeymoon?

Any suggestions? And please, don't post about how we shouldn't do it. We already know the advantages and disadvantages about tattooing and are doing it anyway.

Cave wedding?

I am thinking about having my wedding at the cave winery in sainte genevieve, missouri. I'm trying to figure out what the pros and cons might be. We are looking at the beginning of july. There is also a pavillion there that I could rent instead of or in addition to the cave. Any thoughts?
