I'm pretty easy going when it comes to traditions. If dollar dances have been practiced in your family for generations, I say go for it. It would definitely be considered a faux pas in mine, though, and I'm not comfortable with it.

However, I was reading on some other boards about a bride who's granny went to Ireland and bought her an Irish dance bag. I had never heard of this being specifically an Irish tradition (though giving money to the bride and groom during the reception is a tradition in a LOT of cultures). But interestingly enough, I found a cute little "bride's pocket" online. Made from a Irish crochet pattern, circa 1910. Cool, eh?

For my victorian theme wedding I am giving out fans with the 19th century fan language attached on little cards, but I need another favor idea that men can enjoy. Anyone have any ideas for masculine 1800s style favors? I am on a stiff budget :)

a lot of you guys asked about our thank you banner, which my friend made for us. :)

we made it much bigger. they used actual scrabble tiles on the tutorial one, but we found scrabble tiles on flicker (just seach flicker for "scrabble letters" and you'll find a bunch) so they would be bigger. i asked for 4"h letters, and it actually turned out pretty huge! LOL maybe 2.5"-3"....?

anyhow, that's the way it's done. just follow the tutorial and scale UP!

DIY Advice

I found these two cakes stands and wanted to try to paint them to make them look prettier plus one has gold detail that I'm not to crazy about ,there was a DIY on Ruffled a few week's back using White gloss spray paint on glass vases and I wanted to try this on 'em has anyone done this before? If I paint them do you ladies know/think they will look bad? any advice or suggestions is welcomed.

Grrrr! Who would have thought black & white as a color scheme would be so difficult?

Right now I am trying to find black & white striped fabric that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I am searching for evenly sized stripes. Like old fashioned bathing suits/bath house tents/awnings etc... Everything I find seems to cost $20+ per yard. Does anyone have any ideas? I originally wanted to use it for my tablecloths but I will settle for enough for just the cake table and perhaps a few table runners. I can't even seem to rent them!

So Ive been back and forth between several ideas for our wedding style and this just fits us so well. My problem is idk where to start, there is not alot of weddings I can find for inspriation on centerpieces, favors, overall looks. Someone PLEASE help me find something. I have seven months to get plans/diy in order. I'd like to start on centerpieces. I saw someone else ask help. My budget is 15 per table. Doesnt sound like alot but I have 15 tables and it adds up quick.Thanks for any advice.. ps- how do I go on your pages to see what your doing as well?

I'm so jealous that you were a professional belly dancer. i took a lesson once when i was younger (and skinnier!) and i was a complete failure. it was fun, though!!

my first DIY - purple feather fascinators!

I'm making these purple feather fascinators for the bridesmaids and groomsmaid. I'm pretty happy with how the first one turned out, since I've never attempted anything like this before! I tend to make big messes with glue, so I decided to sew everything together. The feathers are individually hand-sewn onto a black felt oval backing. The feathers cover the felt completely, and the felt helps the fascinator keep its shape. I sewed an alligator clip onto the other side of the felt -- this should hold in everyone's hair no matter what style they wear.

The base color of the peacock feather matches the bridesmaids' dresses pretty well, and the accent feathers should go nicely with the varying shades of purple in their bouquets.

Here's what it looks like on a head. The girls are all brunette, but I only have a blonde head at my disposal.

My polka dots!! I'm adding this dot mesh (that you can barely see- sorry!) just tacked in under the pleats. And imagine there are 5 or so flowers on my hip, not just 1. I pinned the 1 and it took too long so I just stopped LMAO. The rest will be tacked on by the seamstress

Hi Ladies, I don't know that I've ever offically introduced myself (oops!)...although I do respond to your posts occasionally :0) I'm Frances ~ HI ~ I'm going for a vintage romance feel to my wedding with touches of blush and ivory. I figured I would do my part and post since I know how much we all love pics...so here you are :op A pic of my dress when I first found it...hoping it will be at the salon in May so I can do my first official fitting :0) Forgive the weird face...for some reason they only let me do pics after I tried it on for the 3rd time...I was exhausted!!!

By that, I mean the silent movie lips......I know I wouldnt have the guts, and my fiancee would look at me as if I were an alien. But I tell you what, I have tried it in my room a bunch of times ever since I was little and it looks so hlarious!!! You just put foundation all over your lips (especially the corners and sides) and then use a dark pencil to fill in the lip line, really exaggerated at the top. Its hilarious....

We're 11 days out and things have been crazy busy with work, planning and life in general. We had a little bit of drama with our original photog. she basically disappeared after taking our deposit. So with less than 2 months we had to find a new one. It may have been a blessing in disguise because I love our new photog!! We took engagements two weeks ago and she posted the pictures today. I love them. Hope the planning is going well for everyone:)

So I had my florist appointment last saturday, and then flower lady suggested that we put a lot of rice flower in my bridal bouquet to look vintage. They look like babys breath, but a little more little little pearls. Mixed with ivory roses and blue hyacinth. Are any if you having this with your flowers also???

I am in the very beginning stages of planning my dream Victorian wedding on a budget. I have looked all over the internet trying to find an appropriate dress but have not found a whole lot. Does anyone know of any seamstresses who have made/can make a Victorian gown? I'd like it to be 1870s-1880s style.
