What are your favorite stocking stuffers?

If you still get a stocking from your parents, what are your favorite things to receive?  We still do stockings for all 5 kids, along with 3 sons-inlaw/FSIL, and 6 grandkids.  With 14 stockings to do, we don't spend 50 or 60 bucks apiece on them, that's for sure.

I need some fresh ideas.  Any suggestions?

    Sorry. Its early.

Maybe fun/new kitchen gadgets for cooks? I always could use a spatula. Wine stoppers and accessories, book marks, gift cards, ear buds?

For the little ones, places like Target have a ton of stocking stuffers back with their candy. .......

    And of course, theres candy.

Well then, I am off to a good start with the Ghiardelli Squares and the Lindor Truffles I have stashed!

My black friday shopping lasted about 45 minutes here in my tiny hometown.  DH's retirement job is at the Radio Shack here and they had 32gb thumb drives for 8 bucks (retail is 49.99, go on sale sometimes for 29.99) so 3 of them will get those for school and work.

This used to be so easy when it was just our 5 kids.......but then they had to go get married and procreate.
  • Pez and chocolate coins. We also always get the book of Life Savers, which always go uneaten.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I hit the Lindt store and also those pump hand soaps from bath and body works.  And lifesavers for DH, which he promptly finishes in about 8 minutes.  They're his favourite

  • Candy!  I also enjoy little hair clips and ponytail holders.  I'm a nerd so highlighters and office supplies are always a hit, too.  Lip balm, nail polish, a $5 Starbucks gift card, extra phone charger cord, USB drive (as you said), Post-Its... pretty much anything I will either eat, or actually use, not throw away.

"I'm not a rude bitch.  I'm ten rude bitches in a large coat."

  • Mine is gummy bears.
  • Scratch off lottery tickets are fun for adults. Candy and pens, battereries. Small hand lotions and balms.
  • Everything they've said above.

Small Starbucks, McDs, gas station, or iTunes gift cards, car wash tokens (if they're driving age), lottery scratch offs, hand sanitizer, mini lotion bottles, gum, mints, kitchen tools, tissue packs, keychain, shot glasses, lip balm, nail polish, Emergen-C packets.

My mom has always been very particular that she spent the same amount of money on both my sister and I, so each year one of us would get a few dollars or a handful of random change in our stocking, just so it would be even to the penny.

  • I haven't done Pez dispensers before so I'm guessing the g'kids would like those.

When everyone was here I had them do Christmas lists.  6 yo granddaughter's list included "a Native American."

We busted our guts for a minute and she looked at us like we were stupid aliens.  She said, "What?  I want a Native American.  You know that American Girl doll thing!"

I'm sure you do Sweetheart but you aren't getting a 170.00 doll.  Ain't happening.

  • My grandma always gave us stockings as kids and she would always put the "essentials" in them.  So we got underwear, socks, toothbrush/toothpaste, and assorted hygiene products.  She was the first one to give me deodorant, well before it was actually needed!  I had to ask what it was when I pulled it out of the stocking!  But that stuff is the stuff I love in stockings, probably from the memories.  So I know always get H underwear for his stocking!

I agree with going to the Target and hitting up their little dollar spot.  I also could always use new spatulas and other small kitchen gadgets.
  • Candy is always best, duh!

At my grandmother's house on Christmas morning, the adults generally get a little airplane bottle of booze or even a normal (small) bottle in addition to candy.

    Little gadgets or costume jewelry.

Small value gift cards, like for Subway or other fast food or the grocery store.

    The ever-classic orange.

Lindor truffle thongs?  Hmm, my mind is going in places it probably shouldn't be going

Me too! I thought the exact same thing!

My mom is a Mary Kay consultant so she buys product at 50% off retail so she would give us girls makeup and skin care stuff a lot. I loved that!
  • Mine is always full of practical toiletries: toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, shampoo, shaving cream, etc.
I appreciate it as an adult, since it's usually my supply for half a year.

H's family gives him socks, candy, lip balm (that always goes in the trash-what dude goes through 3 lip balms a year?!) and a Christmas ornament.

  • We love getting candy that we haven't heard of before along with some of our favorite candy
  • My mom always stuffed them with chocolate coins, a small toy or piece of costume jewelry, lip balm, and socks. No Christmas is complete without holiday or cat inspired socks.

  • To answer the question, my favourite stocking stuffers are chocolates, candy, and caramels.  I would also like nail polish, lip balm, hair elastics, toothbrush, hot chocolate mix, tea, fuzzy socks.  I also usually get some basics like a new toothbrush, deodorant, etc. and a lottery ticket with some sort of "game" in it.

Truffles, kippers, olives, jam, cookies, other small, wrapped snacks that don't have to be used right away.
bath oil beads, hand cream, spray cologne or deodorant, shower gels, small candles, handheld games, small toys like matchbox cars, note cards, handmade jewelry, small kitchen items (wooden spoons, measuring spoons, spatulas)

ETA: I also buy school supplies for students--flash drives, pencils, pens, erasers, post-its, memo pads, etc.

Hahaha mine goes through a TON of Chapstick. But then, he works outside and our climate is pretty dry.
  • As we've gotten older my mom usually puts the following in our stockings - card decks, Starbucks gift cards, lotto scratch tickets, Lindt candy, gum, candy canes, other small giftcards for groceries, gas, clothing stores, etc., hair twisties, travel size items (Kleenex, hair brushes, chapstick). Last year she did separate stockings for everyone but this year she's thinking of combining stockings for us and our SO's. Since my BF and I really enjoy games we'll probably get another deck of cards (we play games that usually involve multiple decks that need to look different), SD cards for my BF's DSLR, more candy, stuff like that. For my sister and her H she'll probably do some UGA or GA Tech themed merchandise like beer koozies, maybe a small hunting knife for my BIL, candy, things along those lines.

  • My parents always put an apple, orange or pear in the tip of the stocking to round out the end. Ours are always filled with nuts, chocolates and fruit. As far as trinkets, I'm used to the little gifts: desk calendars, a cute scarf, jewelry, gift cards, etc.

  • Honestly, I love getting toiletries. Deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, Q-tips, floss, razors, travel size shampoo, conditioner, Kleenex packs, etc. I travel a lot and they're things I always use. Candy is nice, but I sure don't need it!

Socks, hair ties and accessories, earrings (like from Claire's), makeup, and nail polish are always fun, too.

  • Stockings weren't really a thing here in SA when I was a kid (they're really taking off now though), but FI's mom is American so he and FSIL grew up with them.

Last year was my first big Christmas, so FI bought me a sparkly, sequined, silver stocking and FMIL put loads of nail art stuff in it which was AWESOME! I can't remember what else was in it, but I'm betting there was candy which I probably scarfed in about 3 seconds, as per usual. I have no willpower.

  • I've always loved scratch offs in my stockings. I also love getting candy, small gift cards, headphones (mine always break), small things of body wash/shampoo, nail polish, lip gloss, and hand sanitizer.

  • Socks or anything from Container store...
  • @urbaneca - is SA South America or Saudi Arabia? You've mentioned it twice lately so now I'm curious ;)

Also I'm glad to see I don't come from the only family where stockings are still a big deal for adults! In the tradition of "big things come in small packages," I always know some of the best gifts will be in there!

  • Hey - I just wanted to thank everyone for so many great ideas.  Sometimes I go out to buy stocking stuffers and just look around the store feeling no inspriation, no creativity.  This helps a ton!  Thanks!
