Wearing my mother's wedding dress or a pick of my own . . .

I am at a crossroads. My mother is pressuring me to ware her dress but to have it remade completely over. I was for it until we went wedding dress shopping to see different types of dress on my body. Now, I am not sure what to do and I have to make a decision on Jan 4th. This is so the dress maker can get started and finished within 18 months. My biggest worry is being a cookie cutter bride but also being a dress too aged for me. One of my bridesmaids and my Maid of Honor are not sold on my mother's dress and their idea of what I can do, offends my mother. What do I do? Please, I need help! I don't want to break my mother's heart.

I was offered my step mothers dress. It was handmade by her mother and has beautiful italian lace. I also felt this crossroad when I went dress shopping. I happen to love her dress and she has offered to change it into whatever style I wanted. She has no daughters and this would be a very important thing for her, especially because her mother has passed within the last few years. Im all about tradition and family and heirlooms and I will be wearing her dress 1. because it would mean so much to her and I feel more connected to her. 2. I love her dress. 3. As I look at other modern dress I feel a sense of longing.. but if I really want something more up to date, I will wear her dress for the formal pictures, ceremony and then I'll choose what I want for the reception dress. That way everyone is happy in the end,.
