Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh

Pre-Cana

Where did you do your pre-cana? Our situation is pretty complicated. FI is in the Marines, stationed in California and will be in Pittsburgh next month some time. Our priest is one of our college professors who now lives in Washington DC. Looking at the Pittsburgh Diocese website, Good Sheperd in Braddock offers a pre-cana class on October 14th. This might be our only option. Has anyone done theirs here or have suggestions on where to do ours?

Re: Pre-Cana

  • We are not required to do our pre-cana classes until after the holiday b/c our wedding is still a year away. However, my FI and his siblings all went to Good Sheperd School growing up and they belonged to the church. I have been to this church for weddings, funerals and baptisms and the priest seems very nice, as do the nuns. I think that if you and your FI can both make that day, Id go for it. It is a lovely church.

  • Thanks for the info. I'll give them a call this week.
  • I also called the Diocese and they suggested an online program. http://catholicmarriageprepclass.com/ Has anyone used this?
  • St. Joe's In Coraopolis. One day course, eight hours, great facilitator. Highly recommend.
  • We went to St. Killian's in either Mars or Cranberry.  It was a Friday evening and Saturday morning.  It was probably only about 6 or so hours total, and the priest that taught the class was really good.  I think it was only $25, and we were given snacks (veggie and cheese trays) and cookies Friday and muffins and bagels on Saturday.  Unfortunately it is only offered there 3 or 4 times a year, but I recommend it if the days work out for you.

  • We went to Saint Margaret of Scotland Parish.  It was a one day class as well.  The facilitators were so-so.  I as a non-catholic was grateful they did not spend alot of time talking about the "sex" part and just left you with the pamphlet information.  It is only offered 3x a year.  Here the shortcut to the listing:
