Questions for other Brides-to-be about my wedding idea. I need help!

My fiance and I have started planning. He wants to do an "8 Second" theme groomsmen. Black tux, grey vest with black tie for the groomsman and white for him. Black cowboy boots and cowboy hats. So with that I decided our colors would be grey and light pink. Which I love the color combo of. We both hunt and fish so we were going to bring the outdoorsy touch to the wedding with antlers and such for centerpieces and to tie into other decor. That being said, what should bridesmaid attire, including shoes for me, would go with that. We have disagreeing ideas. We are newly engaged and starting to come up with ideas so any input on any rustic weddings you have had or ideas you have you can share would be amazing! THANKS!

  • It's perfectly fine to do rustic, but tuxes are not rustic. You need to have your groom and groomsmen in more casual attire if they are going to be wearing cowboy boots and cowboy hats. For girls, I would do knee-length sundresses and a nice flat sandal.
  • Also, if you have a long dress, what shoes you wear won't matter as no one will see them.

  • grey and pink can be very rustic, but I second the suit being too formal for outdoorsie/rustic.. my guy likes the look of a double layered vest and pants, with a white shirt.. you can do that in black or grey and it looks nice, with black boots, it'd look fancy.. :)

  • I disagree with PPs. If you both want tuxes, wear 'em. Just because your theme is rustic doesn't mean you have to cater everything to that theme.

I'd match the formality of the BM dresses with the GM's. Long chiffon dresses in light pink or grey would look nice. Or, if you decide on short dresses, maybe they could wear cowboy boots, too. I know it's a little cliche and overdone, but if you like it, it really doesn't matter.

For yourself, wear whatever shoes you like. They don't need to match.

I agree with ElcaB. Just because your wedding has a theme, the bride and groom have control of just how much their theme takes over the wedding. I've seen some just do the favors and centerpieces while others do the ENTIRE wedding for their theme. So it all depends on you guys.

I second the matching of the bridal party. If the guys are going to be in formal/semi formal (I say semi formal because of the boots and cowboy hats) I would match the girls as the same thing. If the girls were all done up and then the guys were in casual or vice versa I think that would look a little weird, IMO.

  • You could go with gray dresses with pink flowers for the girls. I think the style of dress your BM wear in regards to the length, fabric & design will determine things. But I think if the guys are wearing tuxes I would still go for a traditional BM dress to keep with the formality of the tuxes. For shoes, personally I vote to let them wear whatever they want as long as it goes with the color of the dress. For you, let your venue determine your dress. No matter how fancy your dress is, it will go with the look that your FI wants to go with. Love the ideas for the decor, but don't worry about doing rustic for the attire.

I agree with all that's posted above.

My fiance and I are doing a "farm party" themed Post-Nuptials reception - since our ceremony is private and only with family. My BM will be in shorter dresses with jean jackets and boots - the guys are going to be in Pearl Snaps, boots and black pants (I think, not 100% on the pants yet)...

We are simple country people and that's how we want to keep the wedding and reception.

I've seen 8 seconds many times so I know the theme you are going for lol - you can always do the black tuxes even if your theme is more rustic and low-key.

  • I think with a rustic wedding there aren't really any rules, so I think it's probably okay to do tuxes with boots if you want to. (I tend to subscribe to the "do what you want" philosophy, unless you're labeling your wedding as black tie in which case there are a lot of rules.) But I agree that whatever level of formality you pick for the groomsmen, it would be good to match it with the bridesmaids. It seems like if the groomsmen are going to have a "rustic" feature like boots, the bridesmaids also need something to match, so maybe boots for them too. For you your shoes honestly won't be seen if you are in a floor length dress. It might be okay for you to simply be in a wedding gown as long as it matches the overall style. A vintage look like lace is what I see most often with vintage weddings, although I think other styles can work too--you'll know when you see it. =)

Anyway, at the end of the day, you will analyze more than your guests will, so have fun and do what YOU love. Happy planning!
