Chit Chat

I want to shake my coworker!

I can't even today. . . . the woman in the next office is notoriously a complainer.  Today it is again about 7 degrees outside.  Our offices happen to have huge wondows, and get quite warm when the sun is out.  It has been this way since the building was built, and she has been in the same office for about 5 years.  Today I heard her call maintenance.  "Hello, it is entirely to warm in my office.  What are you going to do about it?"  I am certain that they didn't offer to turn on the AC for her, so short of removing the sun from the sky, they can't help her. . . . she constantly calls them for nonsense and it makes me want to shake her!!!!

Just the other day she had a small cart that she purchased to move files around. . . . she called maintenance to put it together for her! (she is able bodied)

What do your coworkers do that make you want to shake them?  I know I can't be the only one!

Re: I want to shake my coworker!

  • In my old position a few months ago in a different department, the lady who sat in front of me used to sing ALL.DAY.LONG. It was sooo obnoxious and it was pretty loud for an office setting. She sounded like a dying moose or something. On top of that she would be on personal calls all freaking day. She was the worst, I am so glad I got out of that area.

  • One of our paralegals has been drinking coffee from the same cup without washing it for at least a year (*vom*). The coffee residue is literally caked on -- our office cups are green, the inside of his is solid brown. I would try to crack a joke about it if he wasn't so grouchy.

    This made me laugh!

I have a co-worker who chews with his mouth open all the time! And he'll go out to lunch and bring back a cup full of ice and chew on it all afternoon. It makes me want to strangle him!

  • That is hella annoying.

I have a co-worker that never stops talking. All day. She's the most annoying person I've ever met in my life. She's at my desk all day long. And if that's not enough, we go to the same gym. And if she sees me there, she'll stand next to whatever machine I'm on and talk and talk and talk. Oh - she also thinks it's hilarious to sneak up behind me when I'm on the elliptical or treadmill to scare me. No joke. One time she actually climbed onto my treadmill behind me. o.O

lol it's funny you say that because my fiance LOVES the coffee residue left in his cup. He says it makes it taste better.

  • I can't actually shake my co-worker because he's never at work. He's had a lot of legal issues for about a year now. He comes in late and leaves early or doesn't come in even though he texts me telling me he'll be in... I've given up hope on him. Yet, he's my boss and makes more than me.....how!!

  • Sorry you guys have to deal with annoying coworkers. The only coworker who really gets under my skin is the receptionist. She is really snooty and she has been vocally clear that she finds it annoying that there is a more casual atmosphere where I work. Like we can come to work in t shirts and jeans because we mostly do lab work. The only time we have to dress nicer is when there is field trip duty. So is constantly saying things about how unprofessional we all dress. I could ignore that but she is the only other woman who works there and she tries to get me to agree with her and help her convince the boss man to issue a dress code.

Stuck in box. I told her next time she scares me, I'm punching her!
  • @ClimbingBrindeNY I don't blame you. I probably wouldn't have warned her and just punched her the next time she did it.
  • There are a few people here who I want to punch. The kid out in the warehouse who acts like he is 16 (hes 22) and the receptionist who has a holier than thou attitude. Also, my counterpart drives me nutty some days, but its just kinda her personality.

  • Lol. I have to share this story about the receptionist at my work. I'm an anthropologist and I work with other anthropologist and some archeologist. Well a few of us have a book club and will once a month talk about the book we all read during our lunch break. A few years ago we read "The DaVinci Code". She came in and heard us talking about it and says something about not understanding how we can be educated yet still read such intellectual drivel. One of my other coworkers looks at her and says 'Well we're educated enough to know the difference between intellectual drivel and fictional drivel. This particular book is the latter but next time we read some of the former we be certain to invite to discuss it with us". She got irritated and left the room in a huff.

Did she ask to be in your wedding? She clearly thinks you are bffs.

I've mentioned begore the guy that makes everyone hear him use the restroom. I don't think I shared that he doesn't wash his hands. My office is a tiny place with 6 people in it. We all touch the same things. He is the grossest human I know.
  • I've posted about my irritating, micromanaging, changes her mind and denies telling you anything coworker before..Right now, I'm walking with a cane. I've fantasized about beating her with it, and I've only been back to the office from the holidays for 5 days.
  • Well, no annoying co-workers as I'm still a student but one really annoying fellow student (who, unfortunately, is in my degree program, which isn't that big, and was in two of my classes last semester.)

We have a lot of classes in computer labs in this degree program (journalism).  Well, this guy is always doing other stuff, mainly playing FB games and browsing the internet.  He bangs on his keyboard really really loudly.  He whispers to himself while browsing (during class!) and points at his computer screen.  And he gets really frustrated with the computer and sighs really loudly and mutters about it while we're doing class work.  I don't know how the professors never noticed.  One of the classes, both the professor and a sub called him out and told him to pay attention when he was playing on his computer, but he kept doing it and no one ever called him out again the rest of the semester.

I'm thanking my lucky stars that this certain class that everyone in the program is required to take, he took last year, so I won't have to be with him at least in this one class (it's a class where everyone works on one big project all semester.  Lots of working together so I'm super glad he won't be in it.)  I do have a risk of him being in my other two classes though.  This semester, if he's in any of my classes, I'm totally talking to the professor about it.  It's a major distraction and I had to change my seat (not that big of a deal, but if I'm in a packed class, it's not easy to do) so his computer screen wouldn't be in my line of sight when looking at the prof because it was so hard to not have my eyes drawn to his screen.
  • At my last job, there was a girl who annoyed the living daylights out of me - and I was her direct superior, so I had to deal with her every day. It was business/project management college. I was admin, course prep, trainer schedules, venue and travel org, and basically everything but sales and sales-related admin, which was her job.

She never updated the leads on the system, she was constantly asking me to pull sales reports for her, she was forever promising prospective students date which we couldn't do, etc. Her phone manner is terrible, and her emails are worse. I had to constantly apologise to customers for her. Half the time I was responding to leads for her because she couldn't get it right.

When she interviewed for the position, she assured us that she would be able to get to work, despite the fact that she only has a scooter. Within the first week she was calling in to work from home because her lift cancelled on her, and she proceeded to "work from home" 3-4 times a week for the rest of her contract. She would also call in sick, and not give a medical certificate in when she got back.

I ended up taking over the sales position on top of the other two positions I already held in the company, and it ended very badly for everyone. I told them when they hired me that I wasn't a salesperson, but I guess they didn't believe me.
