There is a snake loose in my building

One of the bio guy's snakes got out and they haven't found it yet. It isn't a poisonous or deadly snake, just a little corn snake but now I'm all jumpy.

Re: There is a snake loose in my building

  • Yay! Mini crisis over. They found the snake.
  • It was probably worse for the snake than for you.  My old cat killed several corn snakes in our back yard.  (We used to live next to a wooded area.)

  • Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. When I used to work in a portable trailer down on the military post we had a snake fall out of the ceiling in someone's office. I had never in my life heard a man scream like a 5 year old girl before. And H used to have snakes when he lived at home. He said that they would get loose every now and then. I told him that I hope he enjoyed his snakes because he would not be getting one EVER once we lived together. Luckily a mouse that he fed to his one snake, that we guess was sick, ended up attacking and killing his snake. It was awesome.

I sure it was worse for the snake. I actually think snakes are pretty... When there is no chance of them touching me. Lol. I was just worried I was going to reach into a cabinet or something and get bitten by the snake. I doubt that would have happened anyway since corn snakes aren't aggressive but it is one of those silly thoughts that gets in your head and refuses to leave.
  • I would have been waiting outside until it was found. I hate snakes! Been bitten too many times to bear any love for those creatures...
  • I really don't understand people's fear of non-poisonous snakes.  Snakes eat mice and other vermin.  They don't hurt anybody.  What's the problem?
    Now termites - yikes!

  • Ha, if that happened in our building FI probably wouldn't want to stay here and would go to his parents' or something because he hates snakes.  I actually like snakes, and rats, mice, bats, etc. that other people usually find 'gross' or scary'.  I do, however, hate when a creepy crawly is in my apartment or on me.

I have a problem with things that have zero legs or more then 4 legs.

  • Did anyone else hear the title of this thread in Woody's voice?

Yay for the mouse!!!!!! I HATE snakes. We had a 60 ft anaconda in our yard a couple of years ago and I am sure you heard me scream. Stupid husband said it was a 16 inch garter snake. That is when I realized he didn't know jack about herpetology. I watch waaaaay more National Geographic than he does and I am SURE Brady Barr would say that was an anaconda of epic proportion. Stupid husband.

I just choked on my cracker reading the bolded.  I would go running out of that office and probably never come back.

My problem is that even non-piosonous ones can have a nasty bite. They eat rats and gross diseased rodents. Sometimes the infection that comes from a bite can be worse than venom.

I have traumatizing snake experiences period. From a cotton mouth dropping into my canoe from a tree and getting his fangs stuck in the sole of her shoe to a nightmarish incident while working for the herpetarium... I hate snakes.

  • FI is so terrified of snakes that if I even told him about a snake being loose in your building, he would freak out. His fear is completely irrational (and includes obviously fake stuffed animal snakes and anything that looks snake-like), but it's cute. Just... don't ever tell him about the snake getting loose unless you want to see a grown man whimper and freak out!

  • I have to say that the time the big spider got out was much scarier than the snake getting out.
