Ugh SA business law is confusing

Bleh!

So I decided last week that I would go back to freelancing. I have no idea if/when the admin/cs job people are actually going to get back to me (they may actually still be trying to get the position approved) and even if I do get that job as well, I should be able to manage with what I have in mind. I already have two potential clients lined up, so that's pretty cool.

Stoked

But there is so much conflicting information about whether I need to register as a small business or not, that I've just made my head explode and it's not even 9am yet. I wish I had the money available to see a lawyer about it all, but I don't so bleh.

  • Ack indeed.

Is there a legal aid society or law school around that you can contact?  My law school has something called the Community Enterprise Clinic, which assists people in our neighborhood with starting and maintaining small businesses. (Sorry we are in NYC, otherwise I would totally refer you!)

  • I honestly hadn't thought of that, @JCBride2014.

FI's just reminded me that his sister's best friend is a lawyer. I think I'll ask her advice next time she's in town. I don't know what her specialty is, but even if it isn't business, it shouldn't be too difficult for her to find out what I need to know. If that doesn't work out, I'm sure I can find a legal aid society or something. I think my bank has a legal aid type service for clients.

In the meantime I've been screwing around with logo designs, and I have one that I'm pretty happy with. So yay for that!
