Shower gifts for the hostesses?

Hi everyone,

I'm not sure where I should post this, but I was wondering did you give gifts to the people that hosted your shower for you?  I've heard some people have done it but I wasn't sure what is appropriate for them.

I'm having one shower hosted by my sisters in my hometown(not concerned with them), and the other is being hosted by my FMIL, and my fiance's two aunts in his hometown (which is on the opposite side of the state about 3.5 hours from my hometown). Should I get them all gifts? What does one usually give as a gift for hosting a shower?

Thanks.

Re: Shower gifts for the hostesses?

  • yes, I gave hostesses gifts to all who hosted...including my sisters.

There really is no rule on what to give or how much. Just that it is from the heart
  • My sister and mom hosted my bridal luncheon. I got them both gifts.
  • I sent her an edible arrangement and taking her and her husband out to dinner.
  • I hosted a shower for my friend in college.  I paid but it was at my parents house, where I lived at the time.  Mom got a box of Godiva chocolates.  I can't remember getting anything at all...

Yes, you should get them all thank you gifts, including your sisters. They don't have to be extravagant, just heartfelt.  Think of what things they like, what they like to do, where they like to go. Anything that fits in with their hobbies, interests, or things they love. Wine, gift card to a favorite hobby store, tickets to an event, etc.
  • Umbrellas are useful, adorable and fitting hostess gifts for a shower :)

  • For my FMIL I have purchased a few items from Bath & Body Works (which is one of her favourite stores) and I plan to put them in a small basket. It's small enough that it's easy to bring on the two hour trip to her house, I know she'll enjoy the items, and I didn't break the bank.

For my sister I got her Star Wars cookie cutters from Williams Sonoma because she loves baking and Star Wars, lol. It's perfect for her and I was so surprised when I found it.

But yeah, the hostess gift doesn't have to extravagant, or even the same gift for each host. Just get something she will enjoy to let her know you appreciate her efforts that have gone into your shower.

Thanks for the replies everyone!  I was definitely going to give my sisters gifts, but they're so easy to buy for.  The other hostesses are not...so I'll just keep trying to think of some gifts!
  • I gave bottles of wine and either a holder or decorative wine stopper with each hostess for my baby showers (7 years apart, hosted by different people for different groups of attendees).
  • Hostess gifts don't have to be expensive -- candles, nice lotion sets, bottles of wine, etc. are all good options.

I got DH's grandmother and aunt candles because (a) they're hard to buy for and (b) they like candles.

I got my godmother a Longaberger basket, because she collects them, and I put a jar of home-made jam in it.

  • bottles of wine, etc.
I don't know why, but when I read your reply I read it as "boxes of wine, etc."

I'm obviously quite a classy broad.
  • I had 3 official hostesses and 2 unofficial hostesses (mom and young niece) for my OOT shower.  There was a cookie theme to my shower so I sent each of these ladies a thank you cookie greeting from Cheryls cookies.  I liked the idea of having a small gift be something that could easily be shipped so I didn't have to worry about taking anything to the shower with me.  I also wrote very nice thank you notes to each mentioning their gifts and work on the shower.

I love the concept of these, but I don't like that most of the rings are too small for me. There's an off-brand (just called Ring Candles) that actually lets you choose your size!
