Registry Items

What is the funniest thing your FI wanted on your registry?

Generally, he doesn't care at all about what we get. Oddly, he INSISTED on registering for a miniature deep fryer and is SO EXCITED about it. My female friends all asked me about it and I requested they pass it over when looking for a gift for us, but they all knew right away it was his addition to the registry.

Re: Registry Items

  • FI is way too excited about an electric carving knife. We only have the two of us to cook for and don't host family holiday dinners, so I don't know why exactly he feels the need for one, but he was adamant.

He also really, really wanted a stovetop kettle (no idea why), but I managed to convince him to go with electric.

  • A golf putter; silicon ice-cube trays in the shapes of skulls and cross-bones; grilling implements for a grill we don't yet have.

    I think that was it.

  • He wanted a keurig and a soda stream. I was trying to update something on the registry earlier this week and it looks like someone got us the keurig.  He will be so happy. Also FI norI are coffee drinkers either he wants to have that option though and likes hot chocolate and cider

  • FI picked pretty much everything for our registry. He was really excited since all the kitchen stuff in the house is my stuff, so now we'll get "our" stuff. He was most excited about knives, we spent an hour looking at knives....

  • H really wanted a crystal butter dish.  I probably should have let him put it on there, but I was terrified someone would actually get us one.  I'm not a big fan of crystal (most of it is too ornate for me) and those suckers are expensive.  If someone wanted to get us a gift in that price range there are other things we needed more.

The only reason he really wanted it is because his first wife wouldn't let him register for it either...

  • Cat shaped ice cube trays. :)

But now they aren't available. Wahhhh.

Originally, he wanted to register for a TV. After getting feedback from folks on here (basically, "How much side-eye would you give us?"), I said I'd be okay with it, but he's changed his mind. We'll see, though.

He and I both wanted a lot of the same stuff (new flatware, dinnerware, etc), but here's what's definitely HIS stuff: bathrobe, stationery, hilarious beach towel, wine stoppers, cocktail shaker, wine carafe, mortar and pestle (what on EARTH are we going to do with that?), Nespresso (we already have a Keurig), and cocktail jiggers.

  • A large portion of our Crate and Barrel registry is all FI's input. He carried the gun. Anything he like, he scanned (we have a large, glass storage jar that I have no idea what we'll use it for, but its on there)

Flatware was the one thing he was adament about.

FI probably would have asked for one if we hadn't found one in Target 6 months ago. You should have seen how excited he was!

  • @phira, maybe it's just me and maybe I'm just crazy, but I use my mortar and pestle a lot.

My DH is so excited about having enough counter space now for a breadbox.  He has been researching them for a few days now.  I think we are going to BB&B tomorrow before he works to get one.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • This. He got so happy when he saw it. It's like, $2. I offered to just buy it for him, but he thought it would be good to include it as one of our less expensive registry items. I won't pretend to understand, but he is precious.

We're in Canada so products will be different, but we found a nice dome stainless steel one in Target for $30 :)

Molly&Domenic, the fact that your FI wanted popcorn tubs is adorable

  • @sarahufl I think it's funny how excited the tubs made him. He does love popcorn.
  • @phira @HisGirlFriday13

My mom uses her mortar and pestle frequently.  I'd use one if I had one, I usually end up with a glass measuring cup and random kitchen implements for crushing.

H wanted chip clips.  Friends of ours registered for them a couple years ago and I figured we would actually use them so we went for it.  Most of the set is actually in use right now, so I'm happy.

@HisGirlFriday13 @TheFutureMrsRohlman22 I definitely don't side-eye when people have a mortar and pestle on their registry, but we've NEVER needed one. A lot of stuff on our registry is stuff we've wanted for a long time, or that we've really needed and had to work around (like not having a potato masher, or a garlic press--two things we know we'll use). But J totally just said, "I've always wanted a mortar and pestle!" and added it to the registry. No idea what he'll use it for; he hasn't ever seemed interested in grinding his own spices!

  • I totally registered for chip clips and they were one of the few things we got that we actually use.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14
