Things you do in an office job.

I have an office job and I recently came across this article on my minifeed that someone shared.

I am guilty of all of these and can probably even add some more to the list.
However, I am especially guilty of # 1 (becomes the sanity in my day), #3 (it has almost become a nervous tick, I can't stop thanking people), #9 (co-workers may or may not I thought I was having an attack during some of my "dancing at the desk" moments), #13 (Currently I have "motivated" for those productive days and "melancholy" for every other day) and DEFINITELY #15 (only 15 more minutes to go!!!).

What about you?

Yes! #3, #12, and #15 are my worst.

I'm also always "office cheerful", no matter what kind of mood I'm really in.
  • All of them except:
#6 (don't drink coffee but I do drink copious amounts of water so that I have an excuse to get up and go to the bathroom),
#13 (I don't really listen to music but instead watch Netflix incessantly) and
#16 (I NEVER stay late, like ever...4pm rolls around and I am like "peace!")

  • #1 - I was counting down the minutes till lunch. I just finished doing #12 [eating at my desk]. #14 [Happy Hour] is a weekly occurrence at which #10 [practicing not talking work after work] always happens until someone forces us to stop the work talk. Monday will be St Patty's with the coworkers, which leads into #8 - blurring the lines b/w coworkers and friends. Sooo yea, this list is pretty accurate.

  • Not so much for #1 -- I tend to be too busy to even realise when lunch rolls around (unless it's Friday and I'm antsy to go home, like today). Also, I always thank people for everything anyway, even if it's passive-aggressive or sarcastic, so #3 is moot.

I get up at 6 - 6:30am, so #2 is especially true for me. #4 - 7 for sure. #9 -- I don't even try to hide it. I sit on a giant yoga ball and bounce away to Timber allllll day!

#11 no longer excites me because we get so much of it, but I'm wary not to take it for granted. #12 all the time (and at bestie's reception desk). I don't do #13, but people do send me playlists based on my mood at my request, so I guess that counts? And #14 - 17 fa sho.

  • This. All of it.

  • Everything except 4 (five tabs at most, and that's just because of doing social media for work), 7 (we don't use acronyms at work, thankfully), 10 (we don't talk about work outside of work other than once in a while confirming if someone is going to be out of the office the next day), 13 (no music in my cube, I get distracted too easily), 14 (we don't go out for happy hour, we usually just drink at lunch together), and 16 (staying late is frowned upon, we are expected to actually have lives outside of work and see our families/friends when the day is over).

  • YES.  I DO ALL OF THESE THINGS.

My biggest thing is saying "thanks" all the time ever, at the end of every single correspondence or conversation, even if it's horrible.  This has leached into my personal life as well.

I can't let go of the "thanks" either. It's so fake.
  • ALL OF THIS.

"Did you get the SOP for that RN-MSN to DNP DP approved by LRC? The EDV and FADV really need them for LDA issues."

We have a donut fairy in my office too, and I get really excited for free-donut Thursday thanks to her.

  • 11. Getting irrationally excited about free food. Someone brought in donuts this morning, and now everyone gets to casually pass three times for a donut while trying not to seem like an enormous glutton, in-between glancing surreptitiously at the box to make sure no one took the cruller.

    12. Eating at your desk. It’s the saddest, it’s the lamest, yet sometimes it’s just completely unavoidable..

^^ I am so guilty of this. LOL.
  • I do all of these - except 8. And sadly, when Office Space came out, I totally got it. I've been working in an office from the time I was 17.
  • Yes, I hate to admit how I look forward to lunch time then just eat it at my desk.  :(

Right now it's Friday afternoon and instead of doing the don't give a shit whatevers we have visitors.  A froworker had her daughter bring in her twin girls.  So we are all taken extra special long to talk to them to kill time.
  • Yeah #3 and #11 are so spot on it's a little scary.  The whole thing is pretty accurate actually lol.

  • Ooh, and #16 - it really does feel like that.

  • I used to do the foster parent news letter at one of the agencies I worked for.  I would work on it on Friday afternoons when I didn't feel like doing work.  Because while it technically was work it felt more like fun.  I could spend hours getting the font, colors, spacing, clip art, etc. just right.
