Rent of bridesmaids dress

Re: Rent of bridesmaids dress

  • I think it's brilliant. I'd also love if they did veils too.
  • Seems smart to me, I'd rather rent than have to buy another BM dress and just have it sit in my closet forever. I would have given this option to my BM had I known about this.

  • It's smart in that it's less wasteful than consuming thousands of single-use dresses every year. However, I think it would have to be substantially cheaper than the cost of buying a basic BM dress (the one's I've had to buy have been the most basic ones from David's, around $120-150) in order to be a big relief to the BMs.

  • I think it's a fantastic idea if your plan was to go the designer route. Way less expensive than buying.

I actually grew up with the CEO/founder.

You can rent veils, along with sashes and things like that, from Rent the Runway!

I love the shit out of that company. I've been keeping an eye on it to see if something that will work for BM dresses will come up. I've rented dresses 3 times and they throw in an extra size along with tape and things to help it fit. You can't really alter them but I just don't really see the necessity for all that hassle anyway. A lot of dresses are in the $30-50 range to rent and they are amazing.

  • I thought about renting my wedding dress, but didn't look into it as much as I could have.
  • Another company like this is Little Borrowed dress. They're a sponsor on A Practical Wedding and they seem pretty awesome: http://apracticalwedding.com/2014/02/rental-bridesmaid-dress/
  • I'm already looking into this for my BMs!  I'm pretty much giving them a color and length guideline, so I'm adding this to one of the options.

  • Couldn't open the article...but what happens if you need major alterations?  A lot of us are shaped...differently.
  • I think it's a total rip-off. But I'm the type who would never have them purchase a dress over $130 to begin with. I've seen wedding shows where the bride is like "you bitches need to be in Alexander McQueen and Manolo Blahniks" so this would work for them. To me blue satin looks like blue satin whether it was $50 or $500.

@rebeccab88 Apparently they send you two sizes and say make one of them work.

  • WTF? Make one work? What about length? Some people are short or tall. Boobs or not. Butt or not. That's just stupid. Sometimes you can't do that.

Yes I like the idea, but at 5'11 and usually ordering a size 8, I pretty much always have to get the extra length in my dresses

Actually they send you two sizes you try them on, say which one works best and what alterations need to be made and they make the alterations and send the dress back.

I second this. I've seen dresses there for a rental fee of $50, which is nothing.
