The only destination bach I would want to attend...

and I can't go!  FSIL is having her bach in NOLA but unfortunately I have to work on the Saturday, right in the middle of her plans.  I have never been and am dying to go.  Seriously it's the only place I would actually want to fly to for a bach.  Okay, well maybe Europe.  But NOLA is high on the list.

Bummed.  I am already juggling my work schedule to go to her shower a couple weeks before the bach, so I don't want to ask for additional time off.  And I don't want to pay $300 just for the flight, then two nights in a hotel, when I can only go for one full day.  Oh well.  This has saved me from spending a bunch of money at least.

I have basically no thoughts about my own bach whatsoever.  Not sure if I would want a destination or local bach.  Destination is fun but it's such a hassle to schedule!

  • That sounds like so much fun! I'm sorry that it wouldn't work out!

I know that I won't have a destination bach- most of my wedding party has kids and couldn't leave town without them. I'm ok with that. I'm just hoping for a fun night out with friends (and hoping to to keep up with the ladies with children- they're so excited for a kid-free night that I'm expecting a few to go crazy!).

  • That stinks that you won't be able to go! :(

Idk what the plan is for my bachelorette party but I think it involves an overnight somewhere. My bff and another very close friend started planning it months ago, right after I got engaged. The last time they checked in with me they asked if I was free for an entire weekend in August. So I know it's in August, most likely an overnight trip and I gave them a guest list. It probably won't be anything extravagant but I wouldn't mind getting away for a weekend with my girls!

  • You know, I am constantly amazed by the amount of people on these boards who have friends/FILs that like to go out. If for whatever reason I want to go out anywhere-even in town-my friends complain.
I really wish I had friends that would do stuff like fly out for the weekend-I would totally go! You all are so lucky!

I would love to go to NOLA too!
    Knottie GTG in NOLA??? :)
    OMG YES.

And I/ my friends love to go out.  I get called a homebody around here because compared with the rest of NYC I'm pretty mild, but I go out a few times a month and I love getting all dressed up.

My school is doing a formal dance this weekend (we joke that it's "law prom") and I'm doing floor-length gold sequins.  I LOVE getting dressed up and having a good time!  My friend and I joke that getting ready together and doing our makeup is the best part of going out.  Girly much...

  • All of my girlfriends are begging me for a destination Bach in Las Vegas (we're in LA so it's a pretty common thing).

I swear, they all want it more than I do I'd just as soon not do one at all and just spend more time sitting at home watching Teen Mom 2.
  • The only person my bachelorette party was destination for was myself! I was living in LA at the time and several people suggested NOLA but I decided to make it easier on everyone and go to them. I've only been to NOLA once, and I really don't care to go back. It was fun, but dirty and stinky.
  • So now I'm amazed at how many of you ladies seem to have a ton of friends. I have like, two. One fairly close-although less close now, and one kind of acquaintance whose Slumber Parties I attend and occasionally hang out with. I've known both of these girls for at least 10 years.

I need more friends. I am in awe of you guys.
Having many girl friends is a new thing for me. It was something I made a conscious choice on a couple of years ago.

I still am not as close to them as I'd like (like, I'd feel awkward asking any of them to be in a bridal party) though.
  • @shrekespeare- don't feel bad! I have a lot of women in my family and his. My bach will be 70% family, 30% friends. It will not be a huge affair!

I have a lot of closer acquaintances but not a lot of people that I'd consider close friends.

@shrekspeare I am in awe that your friend has organized slumber parties!  And I'm not even kidding, I absolutely would do that with my friends.

I have a lot of friends but unfortunately many of them are now OOS or international.  I do not have a ton of close friends in the NYC area, even though I grew up here, as many of my closest friends' jobs have taken them far afield.  I have a handful of law school friends I go out with pretty often, but they are all new friends within the last couple of years.  So even though I am close with a lot of people, I do still get bummed sometimes because they are far away.  In fact, I'm pretty sure every single friend in my WP is OOS or international... family are the only local ones.  Hence why any bach party for me will be destination for somebody, whether it's here in NYC or not.

No no no. Slumber Parties. Like the toy party. Lmao.
HAHAHAHA is this like a Pure Romance thing?

And I stand by my slumber party comment.  It still sounds like fun.

  • It is Pure Romance. I actually feel like Slumber Parties just got bought out by them. I know they used to be the same company a few years back. Slumber Parties is a more fun name, I think. Although there have been so many instances where girls are invited and think it's a sleepover. The poor girls have the most hilarious faces when they find out.
That would have been me, 100%.  I don't use sex toys but at least I would still think the party was fun anyway.

  • @shrekspeare don't feel bad. I don't have many girlfriends either? The majority of my friends are guys. We like to go out a lot though. I'm not going to have a bachelorette party because it would be too weird. It would be mostly relatives with the three girlfriends I have. Hahahaha
  • I can totally throw down when I go out (I can drink my weight in tequila shots), but I can't even remember the last time we just went out for fun. I throw dinner parties all the time, but going out and blowing a bunch of money on food that isn't as good as what I make at home and drinks that potentially got made with sub-par alcohol (seriously, it happened here - look!) is not my idea of a good time. You're more likely to find me either Knotting or cross-stitching on the couch in my sweats and no makeup. I can't even tell you how thankful I am that no one is throwing me a bach or shower.

Aww, sorry you can't make it out to NOLA! It was actually on the vacation list this year. FI wants to plan a trip for his cousins graduation, and I suggested NOLA, plus I know said cousin is dying to go there so fingers crossed! For my bach I would love to go to Miami. A few of my friends are already excited to go, and my MoH is super excited to go there. I have family there, so I've been there a few times and it is a blast! I'm actually wishing I were on south beach right now, at Wet Willie's, sipping on a Call a Cab.... And I go out way too much. I went out with my coworkers last night and as a result was totally unproductive at work smh. I usually go to weekly happy hours especially when the weather is nice, and FI and I go on date night a fee times a month. And like @cookiepusher, I can throw down! I think I also drink my weight in tequila shots lol. My coworker was once like "for such a tiny girl you sure can keep up" lol. After last night though I think I'll be taking it easy for the rest of the week lol. ETA: can I not have paragraphs with an iPad??

  • iPads hate paragraphs based on all the complaints in many threads!

No one believes I can handles as much liquor as I can because 1) I'm a 4'10" twig and 2) I'm Asian. I remember a group of 5 friends took me out for my 21st birthday. I drank enough that everyone ran out of money and I bought the last 5 or 6 rounds for everyone. And I was sober at the end of the night!

@pinkcow13 My sister went to Miami for Christmas and didn't want to come home!
    ~*~*~*~*~

  • @pinkcow13 @cookiepusher I'm a tank too.  I don't think I'm quite as small as both of you sound (5'4" and average sized) but boy, my Irish really shows.  I drank 17 shots on my 21st birthday and I wasn't sober, but I was totally fine.  I don't much like the feeling of being really drunk anyway, so I mostly just have a few drinks and stay pretty sober when I go out.

  • My dad had only died a few months before my 21st, so I was in pretty bad shape (very little eating or sleeping). I *might* have been 80 lbs soaking wet. My friend wrote down the shots we did on some receipts he found in his pocket, but he lost a couple of them. We only found 2 pages listing 14 shots, and know we drank far more than that (I bought 5 or 6 rounds alone, had 1 round bought for us, and everyone else bought multiple rounds each). I had 16 drinks at FSIL's wedding this past summer and was stone cold sober. There is either something seriously wrong with me... or something seriously right!

    @JCBride2014 and @pinkcow13, Let's go drinking! heh
    ~*~*~*~*~

  • @cookiepusher, I'm 4 11' and a half!!! I was fine for most of the night until I think the 3 rd tequila shot. But I left early, and then FI and I went for dinner. I'm just really forgetful ( left my credit card at the bar and my gym bag with my Tiffany's necklace - Christmas gift from FI!- in it. Luckily all was returned), and I get terrible sleep. I also hate being really drunk, so I know now when to quit while I'm ahead! 17 shots, that is some serious business, JC! You guys ever been to Continental bar in the east village? 5 shots for 10 bucks! Although I went there recently and felt the stuff was watered down.

  • @pinkcow13 and @cookiepusher, wow, I'll feel like a tall person next to you guys! I'm definitely down for a GTG in NYC if you guys want to grab a drink. Although I'm not sure 17 shots will be the plan. :)

  • 13 shots each and let our FI's cart our drunk butts home? Haha We should seriously try to do a GTG once the weather warms up. I need some non-crazy people to hang out with. If I hear one more person tell me that I will make money on my wedding if I just invite more people, I'm going to go Rambo on someone! lol

GTG once it warms up a bit sounds like a great idea.  The month of May should be pretty good for me, I only have one final and don't start bar prep until close to the end of the month.

ETA end of April is good too.... if winter ever decides to GTFO

  • yes to an NYC GTG! Although I cannot drink that many shots. Not even close.

  • That's okay, @sarahufl, I'll drink the difference! lol By the time May rolls around, I'll be in the middle of getting RSVPs for my wedding. I have a feeling I won't have a liver left by the time the wedding rolls around with all the potential BS with our guest list!

  • Seriously, this weather is horrendous. Awesome, end of April or early May sounds perfect! I'm so ready for margaritas with some fellow knotties :)

  • @JCBride2014 I found an electric footwarming pad on the clearance rack for $19 at Walmart (kind of like an electric blanket but it goes under the sheets and is only 25" high). Best. Investment. Ever.

  • Same here, I'm currently sickly and I'm blaming it on the weather. I think it might be my allergies flaring but whatever , I blame this horrible weather! I'm hoping next week is a lot nicer, I'm going to a Mets game with my dad on Wednesday and I do not want to freeze on those bleachers!
