Crankypants: I am grumpy today

I am fed up with the April Fool's Day fake news stories in my newsfeed that my dumb-ass friends think are real (I need smarter friends, clearly).

I am fed up the multiple iterations of fad diets -- paleo, juice, Atkins, modified Atkins, vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, hospitalitarian (wtf is that one, anyway??).

I found this meme:

I think it applies.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'

Re: Crankypants: I am grumpy today

  • If people are genuinely GF or lactose-free or whatever, I don't mind. It's your life, your body, your decisions. I don't eat red meat because it makes me feel sick.

But for the love of God, stop doing ever fad diet under the damn Sun and posting a photo of every meal you eat to FB!

  • I haven't had any April Fool's posts, thankfully.  I did photoshop a photo of DH into one of the "swimming with the Pigs" photos and sent that to him, telling him he would love swimming with the pigs.  He laughed at me last night when I showed it to him.

  • I'm choosing to not check Facebook today so I don't have to see any of the April Fool's stuff.

I hoped it was an early April Fool's joke when I realized I had to be at my office by 4:45am today for the conference call with India.  It wasn't.  So I've been up since 3am (30 minute commute at that time of the day) and I'm with you on the Grumpy...

I'm treating myself to a Dr Pepper with my lunch since Starbucks was not open at 4:15....

A friend yesterday posted a request to please not post an April Fool's pregnancy. It's dishonest and really disrespectful to those struggling with infertility and/or the loss of a pregnancy. I think she made a great point.
I saw something like this too. And while I have never thought it was particularly funny to post a fake pregnancy, I never saw it from the POV of someone who had a loss. My sister had 2 last year and it is really not a funny thing to joke about.

I looked up hospitalitarian. Basically, it's someone who is vegetarian unless they're served meat socially. Not sure that I would consider it a fad diet but it still seems a bit odd. I get looking the other way on some things (i.e. my vegetarian niece eating Gramma's matzo ball soup in veggie stock and choosing to ignore the chicken schmaltz in the matzo balls) but I don't see how a hard-core vegetarian can eat a steak. Though what I read suggested it was more about not offending your hosts.

I haven't dealt with a lot of April Fool's garbage yet today. However, I regularly find myself gawking over posts by people who don't know that The Borowitz Report is satire. One of FI's buddies actually thought this headline was real : "Snowden Drops Four New Songs at SXSW."

  • I've been a vegetarian for 12 years for a lot of personal reasons, so I'd just like to say that not everyone who does it just wants to be part of the fad.

However, that paleo diet buggs the everliving crap out of me.  The premise is to eat like our hunter-gatherer ancestors - well don't forget that they usually died before they hit middle age.

But I'm guessing you also don't post multiple statuses per day about how you're vegetarian, and it's so much healthier than anything else, and you feel so much better now that you are and here are 1234567890 photos of your latest meals.

Anyone who does this for personal, ethical, whatever reasons -- more power to you. But please don't shove it down my throat every time you're on FB. Do it quietly, or I will judge you and think you're doing it for a fad.

So far no April Fool's pranks for me, thankfully. I'm also not choosing to believe much of what I read today on FB either so there's that. Was supposed to go in to start grand jury duty today but luckily got it pushed back to July for regular trial jury consideration. No way did I want to spend two days a week for 3 months sitting on a grand jury. So now I'm trying to not be grumpy because hey, my day could be worse. At least this way I get to sit in my quiet office and knot on lunch. As far as the crazy diet thing goes, FI and his dad are super into this Whole 30 diet. It's ridiculously restrictive and I think I would lose my mind after about two days of it. For FI though, it's really not that bad because his diet is already SO restricted due to his corn allergy and wheat sensitivity. He pretty much already lives on just chicken, salad greens and eggs so it's really just cutting out the alcohol for 30 days that's hard. ETA - apparently my computer doesn't want to do paragraphs. awesome.

I couldn't agree more. A friend posted this link to FB today. http://www.scissortailsilk.com/2014/03/28/the-joke-is-over-why-i-hope-not-to-see-pretend-pregnancy-announcements-on-april-1st/
