Veil for Reception?

I'm wearing a veil (no blusher) and tiara for my ceremony, but I'm wondering whether to wear the veil and tiara during the reception. I plan on wearing my dress during the reception and love the tiara/veil combo, but your thoughts would be much appreciated :-)

Re: Veil for Reception?

  • I have seen it done both ways. Either the bride takes the veil off after the ceremony or keeps it on all night. Personally, Ill be taking mine off after the ceremony!

  • I wouldn't wear the veil during the reception.  I have been to a few weddings where the bride did this and the veil was constantly being tugged on every time someone gave them a hug.  You could see when it happened because the brides head kept jerking backwards.

  • What Maggie said. Every time I've seen a bride keep it on, it just seems to be in the way.

What about wearing it for your first dance for pictures' sake, and then slipping out for a second to ditch it?

  • And also, unless you are wearing your hair completely down or have really fine silky hair where the veil will not stay put, don't let your hairstylist pin the veil to your hair.  My friends was bobby pinned to death and it ended up messing up her hair when we took it out.  Luckily her one BM is a hairstylist so she was able to fix it, but the bobby pins were really unnecessary for her hair and how it was styled.

  •  I kept my veil & hair clip in for the entire reception. I had the veil underneath my up-do. I loved the look of them both together, and had no issues wearing it the whole evening. :) I really think it's just a personal preference, & if you feel you'll be comfortable having it in all night, then go for it.

  • Thanks, everyone for your input :-)

I didn't even think of things like all the hugging/tugging that could happen! My veil is fairly short, so it may not be a problem. But I really like the option of wearing it for the first dance and transitioning to having it off (tiara only) - It's a comb style veil so my hairstylist didn't see a need to pin it thankfully so it should be an easy switch.

I'll most likely end up doing something out of character: going with the flow. haha It's so gorgeous together I may keep it in like JMalettas did.

I plan on wearing mine for the ceremony and photo's only - mainly for reasons stated by other's - it being tugged on when hugging, and it staying put. I  just think it would be a pain and annoying.
  • Although I haven't decided either way, I think I will be ditching mine after the ceremony and photos.  Mine comes down my elbows so it will definitly be in the 'tug zone'.
