Wed. Chit-Chat/Today is MY Monday :-(

edited April 2014 in Not Engaged Yet
Well, I'm back at work after a spectacular/hilarious/crazy/awesome long weekend in TX with some amazing NEY-ers. We laughed, we cried, we drank lots of alcohol, we ate lots of cheese. It was good, and then it was over :-( Now it's back to real life and I'm NOT happy about that.

So - keep me entertained until I get to leave work today! What's going on?

Re: Wed. Chit-Chat/Today is MY Monday :-(

  • *hugs*  coming back to real life is TOUGH.

it's going to warm up to near 80 today (YES!) so I plan on planting all of my porch flowers and back porch herbs into their little pots after work.  it'll be nice to enjoy the sunshine.  I am so exciting, obvs.

also, I am actually wearing a cute outfit that I picked out LAST NIGHT instead of in a rush this morning.  and I remembered to put lotion on my legs this morning.  I FEEL LIKE A REAL WOMAN.

please share your favorite moment of your long weekend!
  • Sounds like it was a lot of fun!

I'm going to have a super long and boring day. My inbox is empty which is unusual. So this looks like it will be a day spent on random websites that having nothing to do with work.

Something I have to do today because it's driving me crazy. So H bought this kiddie pool for his classroom the other week because it was theme day and the theme was "beach bum". So he bought this little blue pool for himself to sit in with a chair. It has been in the back of the car for two weeks now because we don't have any space to put it in. So this afternoon I'm dropping it off at my parents for the dogs to use lol. I look ridiculous driving around with a kiddie pool in the back of my car!
  • @Hummingbird125: I MISS YOUR FACE SO MUCH ALREADY.

Good morning! My day started out with bumping into a coworker that I strongly dislike telling me that I have a nice glow and asking if I'm pregnant.

Then I got to my desk and put on CNN to follow the updates on the flight 370 search and the Oscar Pistorius trial. About 40 minutes later, this other guy gets in and changes the channel to CNBC. I flipped out on him. He does it all the time and it's very obvious that several of us were interested in what was on because we all had the volume turned up.

So, yea. A fantastic start to the day and welcome back to me!

  • @CocoBellaF - I request a pic of your cute outfit! And I don't even remember the last time I put lotion on my legs - I fail as a woman, lol.

@Southernpeach89 - Yay for an empty inbox! Enjoy your day of slacking :-)

  • @Hummingbird125 - there are no full-length mirrors that I know of on campus!  I'll try to recreate it for you with shots from my phone.  I don't have internet on my phone at work (joys of working in a renovated warehouse) so it'll take like 7 hours for the pictures to upload, but eventually I'll get them up.  :)

I hope you have the best weekend, @Blue & White!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Swazzle - all my coworkers (guys my dad's age) ask me if I'm pregnant when I take leave.  they just want me to have a baby.  I am the token "daughter" of the group.  it can be really annoying, but I guess it's one way they show their "love"???

    what did you respond?

ETA:  @TwoDimes - I didn't say I SHAVED my legs this morning, just that I remembered lotion.  ;)
  • Good morning everyone!!!!!

@Blue HOLY CRAP ALMOST WEDDING TIME!!!!!!!!

@swazzle did you want to punch your CW???????

Today I woke up in a crappy mood, I don't know what's wrong with me today. Usually I'm in a pretty good mood but I was like "fuck" this morning....

Good news is that all the clothes I ordered for our e-photo shoot came in, I might have FI take pictures of me in the outfits and I'll AW.

  • @Twodimes- It's not bad at all! H and I are actually going to do that! We are getting the puppy hopefully in June so we will take the pool back lol. I guess that's kind of mean to do that to my parent's dogs.
  • @buddysmom80 - please AW your outfits!!!

@southernpeach89 - my parents had a kiddie pool for their dogs, but you have to dump it all the time because it can drown the dogs and becomes a big mosquito breeding grounds.  GROSS.  but they have a BLAST in it, and we just dumped the water on the tomato plants.
  • I got to be on the radio this morning, a local radio station.  Someone called in about not being invited to her cousin's wedding with her BF if 3+yrs so I called in to comment.

I want to be 5 already, after work I'm going to hang out with my friend and meet her baby today for the first time.  I'm pretty excited.  FI's birthday is tomorrow, I already have one gift for him and I'm debating on what to get him for a second gift.

@swazzle I'm sorry people are so rude... I would never ask that question to a women ever.

    Anniversary

  • @CocoBellaF- Yea that water gets nasty after the dogs have been jumping in and out of it for an hour. I feel like when we were kids, my parents used to just dump it down the driveway or something and it went into the drain.
  • @Swazzle - at least you have a GLOW!!!
  • edited April 2014
@southernpeach89 - we've been in a drought for over 5 years here, so any water is not poured down the driveway.  ;)  we're all about conservation, ha!

we used to have a slip-and-slide and play in the sprinkler.  when I was tiny we had a pool.  there is a picture of me in the pool when I was a toddler on my FB.  cute as a button!  looking back, even then I had junk in my trunk.  what's up with that?!

  • Ugh. Today is rough already - I'm running late to work (big time - good thing my boss cares less about the actual hours I'm in and more about me getting what I need to done). I have a meeting with my adviser to beg for a semester off, mostly from student fees. If I can trust my system enough (keeps plugging up), I have to run over to financial aid to inform them that I'm staging a sit-in until they refund me my $552.30, and I think that is perfectly reasonable because they've been sitting on that money for 8 weeks and I need it, damnit!

Oh, and since I'm running late now, I'm going to have to work late this evening. BF is replacing the starter motor in his car, which had better solve the "car won't start" problem, though by definition you'd think it would.
  • ETA:  I found the photo!
  • @Hummingbird125 & @Swazzle - I'm sorry your weekend is over. But I'm happy you're back! Missed you guys!

@Blue & White - OMG YAY!!!!! Road trip day! Wishing you safe travels. YOU'RE GETTING MURRIED!!!!

I'm finally feeling rested after this weekend. Luckily the rain cancelled soccer practice last night so the whole family just vegged out. It was glorious! Also, I'm loving the cool breeze in the air today. I'm really sad it won't stay for long though.

  • @CocoBellaF- SO CUTE! We had a little pool like that from Fisher Price that had a tiny little slide in it. We used to love that pool! @lmhollister do you remember that?
  • @TwoDimes - it's genetic.  I saw a picture of my mom when she was in her 20's and we have the EXACT same figure.  she's gained quite a bit of weight, but I am a lot more active and eat healthier (braised chicken vs. fried chicken with gravy) than my mom, so hopefully I keep my figure for a loooooong time.

I also put on muscle easily.  I've never been a skinny kid, always had muscle (especially in my legs and butt).
  • It should be known I have barely even starting packing.  I am basically a slacker when it comes to packing.  Luckily, I don't have to pick FI up until about 2:30 PM.

Plus, I mean...I did answer my students' emails.  So I was technically working on something ;)
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton
  • tech advice here!!  I have an iPhone 4s.  I got it in the fall of 2011 (I think, when did the 4s's come out??).  it's been a great phone.  I like that the screen is still small (I have little hands).  however, occasionally it will shut down and I'll lose everything that isn't in the cloud.  it doesn't hold battery well (I have to charge at least once a day).

I was going to wait until the fall when they'll probably come out with another phone...  but I really only use my phone for basic stuff.  if I was going to spend $200-$300 on a phone, well I'd rather put it towards getting an iPad Mini.

I like the green 5c.  it's $29 at Walmart.  but I don't know if I should just bite the bullet and get it now, wait until fall, or just wait until my phone dies a horrible, horrible death.

please tell me what to do!!  I can get an iPad Mini 64g (not retina) on Craigslist for $350, or a 16g for $150.  I think that's a good deal, right??

    @Blue AHHHHHH.

I am terrible at packing, but I love making lists, which helps a lot. These days, I spend days making extensive packing lists in Google Docs before I pack, and then I gray/strike-out text as I go (so I still have a record of what I've packed). It makes it a lot easier to pack because I just go and get everything on the list.

@KeptInStitches :( Sorry you have to work late tonight. I hope that the starter motor fixes the problem--you totally would think it should.

I am in a not-great mood. I totally forgot that my PI made me volunteer for a poster session on Tuesday, so I have to have my first draft finished by tomorrow morning. The poster session is the same day as my committee meeting, too (unfortunately, there's no scheduling conflict, so I don't have an excuse to back out of the poster session). I'm behind in some of my benchwork, but not NEARLY as behind as I usually am. Like, I was supposed to get 4 things done this week, and one of them requires lots of cell lines + a reagent we were out of until yesterday, so I'm working on 3 of them. One of those 3 I have to redo (although I have some results), one of them I slacked on and am working on right now, and one of them I had to wait for my cells to be ready for and I'm doing that today and tomorrow.

I wish my PI didn't check up on me every single day to ask if I have anything we need to go over. I know he's anxious about my work ethic, and he has every reason to be, but he said he wants to meet once a week to go over new data. Well, that's totally fine with me ... so please stop coming in every day asking me if I have anything new.

@Blue OMG THREE MORE DAYS! ROADTRIP!!!

@southernpeach89 Yes I remember that pool! We had it for years. Remember that time we went and caught a bucket full of toads and dumped them in the pool? Also, Cinders wants to come play in your puppy dog pool! She plopped herself down in a pool of muddy water yesterday at the dog park...ugh!

Work is so quiet for me this week. I haven't been running since Saturday and I really want to go tonight...but I also kind of want to have a girl's night with my mom. So I guess we'll see. Maybe we'll get a drink and an appetizer together and then take the dogs for a long walk or something.

I took Cinders to the dog park after work yesterday and she was her usual wimpy ms. prissy self until a 6 month old Anatolian Shepherd came to the park. He convinced her to play with him and they spent the next half hour/45 minutes ish zipping around the park together and wrestling. It was so adorable and Cinders was so exhausted afterwards! I love our dog park. It seems like everyone who goes there has a huge interest in keeping their dogs well discplined and on their best behavior. I've been to other parks in the past where the dogs were just out of control and didn't seem to be very nice. This park must have a really good vibe or something. I've never encountered anyone there who had an out of control aggressive dog.

  • Big hugs for you, @phira.  Sometimes my PI does the same thing, but sometimes I don't see or hear from her for 2 weeks at a time.  Posters suck!!!

Happy start of the wedding fun to Blue!!  Enjoy every minute of it!

I'm analyzing data and working on my dissertation so I'm at home today and of course it's the first day that it's nice enough for the complex's landscaping people to start working so it's loud as hell.  One of the instruments I need is down until further notice so who knows when I'll be able to finish my bench work.  Also, today is DH's birthday so I'm excited to make him an awesome dinner and kick back tonight.
  • @CocoBellaF - I have a feeling that if you try to hold out, your phone may have an untimely death. I also have a 4s and it was doing that for a while (the whole shut off and reboot thing for no reason). It was happening a whole lot before. I'm not really sure when it stopped, or how it stopped, but it eventually did. My sister has the 5c and she really likes it. It's just like the other iPhones, just plastic. Which is actually kind of nice when you think about it.

  • I don't know of any dog parks near my area.  I think that sounds like a lot of fun!
  • @Ollie08 - so your phone (a 4s) has stopped the shut off/delete everything/start over stuff?

so the 5c's break more than the normal phones?  I have dropped my 4s a zillion and one times and it barely has a nick on it.
  • She hasn't had anything happen to  her 5c, but she did put it in a life proof case. My 4s only has one of those rubbery cases, not a full protector one. I think hers is pretty sturdy.

My 4s was doing that whole reboot thing. Although I don't think it ever deleted everything. It just stopped. I feel like it was when iOS 7 came out maybe? Although I did go through and clean up my phone. Made sure to delete old apps, clean out files and photos etc. That helped to speed it up. As for the battery life, good luck with that. I heard the latest update (which I haven't installed) is sucking the battery life out of the iPhones. I'm waiting for them to come up with a fix for that before updating again.

S/O - I'm really hoping that Apple does it big with the iPhone 6, or I might rethink upgrading with them again. I've been really disappointed at the lack of new features and the same old problems being introduced with model after model. They have GOT to come up with something that doesn't kill the battery.
