So this is really a thing

Apparently you can buy makeup for your legs, marketed by none other than Joan Rivers. (I only know this because my church is collecting personal care products for organizations that work with women in the sex industry and people donated all kinds of stuff). I kind of couldn't believe that this was a real thing. My face upon seeing it was something like this:

In case you're interested, you can buy it here. It comes in three lovely shades: cream, taupe, and orange.

  • They've sold Sally Hansen airbrush makeup for legs in drugstores for a long time. I don't think it's much weirder than makeup for any other part of the body, truth be told.

  • I would have to agree with grumbledore. I don't think it's any different than any other part of the body people cover with make-up. People think it's weird because it's not something people are used to. Although I don't know how the orange color would look :/
  • Leg makeup was first used during World War II, when nylon stockings weren't available.  Women actually used to draw a fake seam line down the back of their legs with an eyebrow pencil!  My mother told me that it was a pain, and the stuff rubbed off on furniture and your date's dark trousers.  (Mother! What were you doing?!)

I have trouble finding panyihose to fit.  I am not allowed to wear knee highs or thigh highs (doctor's orders) so pants it is!  I think this product is designed for someone like me, who needs to hide ugly broken veins, but I doubt I'll try it.

  • I've seen the product before but I think it is ridiculous.
  • I don't understand why regular coverup won't do to hide ugly varicose veins.  Wait until you are my age, though, before you judge.  I wonder what Joan uses to cover all her plastic surgery scars?

I honestly don't see why someone would feel the need to hide it. I have really bad spider vains from when I was a dancer and I can't see going through the trouble to try and cover them. ETA: of course I don't wear regular make up either. I will occasionally use eye shadow but I don't feel the need for foundation.
  • I get a Birchbox every month with high-end makeup samples, and I swear I look forward to it every month.  Last month they threw in Jergens BB Body cream.  What?

BB cream still confuses me for my face-- my tinted moisturizer already has SPF.  Why do I need "BB Cream" for my legs?  And the BB Body doesn't even have SPF!!!  That's the whole point of BB!  So it's just a sheer foundation for my legs.  Not enough to cover veins, just sheer.  Why, oh why, Jergens?  Why, Birchbox?

  • I guess the idea itself isn't that weird (I vaguely remember using the Sally Hansen product before a high school dance, and my legs looking slightly odd) and I'm sure I could use it to cover up all the bruises I have from being clumsy. But I wouldn't buy any type of cosmetics from Joan Rivers. I think the shades were the most ridiculous part.
