We have our engagement photos today, I'm so nervous. I'm excited, our photographers are SUPER AWESOME.

And then my hairstylist/makeup artist cancelled on me because she has a nasty eye infection... SO I'm freaking out a little bit. But it will be okay. Just need to vent.

I called her, told her I hoped she felt better and was sorry she was dealing with that, cause it sucks. She offered to do the service for my rehearsal dinner for free instead, which was nice. And she gave me some tips on doing my makeup myself. Now I also have an appointment with Drybar to get my hair done, so no worries there.

  • Wooo! Have fun! I hope that you share pictures. :)

    Don't stress! You'll be beautiful. :)
  • Sorry to hear that! Glad you're handling it well, but it would upset me too. Tutorials, tutorials, tutorials. You can learn so much about doing your makeup with just a few minutes on youtube.

You will still look great in your photos! There's a lot of editing that photographers do (besides taking better pictures than a layperson with an iPhone), so even without pro make-up, your engagement photos will still look amazing.

I don't know how experienced you are at doing make-up, but I've gotten much better at applying foundation/concealer since I watched tutorials on YouTube. Clean face, moisturize (even if you have oily skin), prime (I use Monistat's anti-chafe gel--it's cheap, at the drugstore, and contains the same ingredients as expensive primers).

@phira I have to ask about this witchcraft!  It's really the same?  Do you notice your makeup goes on smoother and/or stays on longer?  I'm obsessed with my expensive primer but it's about to run out and I'm up to try something new.

@JCBride2014 I'm pretty sure! It's definitely made a difference with my make-up; my foundation stays on all day now. I read about it multiple times on beauty forums when I was researching doing my own wedding make-up. I'm reasonably sure there are better primers out there, but it definitely works about as well as the $20 primer I bought from The Body Shop.

Wow.  Maybe I'll buy some and compare side-by-side with what I'm using now.  That would be awesome.  Although hilarious to leave that out in my makeup basket on the daily!

@JCBride2014 Because it's a Monistat product, it has all these warnings that it's not supposed to be put inside certain orifices.

It's also great because I use it for its intended purpose when I wear skirts/dresses in the summer.

  • I'm just a nervous person in general... But there is a plan, so I'm better now. :)

There is a CVS across from my office, I will grab some on the way out! Thanks @phira

Thanks ladies for the encouragement. I needed that too...
  • I don't know anyone who has had professional hair or makeup for engagement photos so I'm sure you'll look wonderful!

Have fun today! We just did our engagement shoot last night, and now the agonizing wait begins to see the final photos... :)

I'm actually really glad I didn't spend the money to get my hair done professionally -- it ended up being super windy and my hair flew all over the place. Not what I had imagined! I'm sure they will still look awesome.

So don't worry too much about your hair/makeup -- you'll look great!

  • It was awesome! We had a great time. The "primer" @phira suggested was awesome. It really worked. I had some leftover Smashbox primer and compared the two, I couldn't tell a difference. Call me a believer.

Thanks ladies. I am pretty hopeless when it comes to my hair, makeup not so much. It all turned out great though. :)
  • Gorgeous!!! Gotta get me some chafe cream, apparently!

  • Beautiful pics! You are gorgeous!!

And now I have to go buy some of that crazy monistat stuff... I love my primer, and this looks exactly like it except for a fraction of the price!

Photos look great! I love the Monistat trick too. I have some Smashbox which is the gold standard, but really I like the Monistat better because it's clear so if I get a little more pale or tan I don't have to worry about it mismatching my skin.

It worked so well! I have now been using it every day! It makes my makeup go on so much smoother. And that picture of me in blue, that was one of the last photos and we had been outside in Texas warm weather for about 2 hours by then. Makeup was still perfect!

    @phira I can't thank you enough!!

Thanks ladies! Ya'll are so sweet. :)
