Google Chrome and Adobe Users

Just wanted to let y'all know about some crazy Adobe virus that's out.  My mom's computer just got hit with it, and her computer repair guy said he just got an e-mail about it.  It will look like a regular Adobe update, but it will actually render everything on your computer un-usable.  She can't access Chrome or anything and it made her desktop icons appear as the Adobe icon.  She said it came up when she was on a Pogo game, she "updated" and used her computer the rest of the night, then her computer updated that night and now nothing works.

I mean, she's not that great with her computer as it is (she's clicked an ad or two before and had viruses before), but she said it was the same button that always comes up for Adobe updates.  And when she called her tech guy, he knew immediately what it was and read the e-mail he just got about it, to her.  Right now, my Adobe says it has an update "ready to install" and I will not be clicking on it.

If you open Adobe (ie. Adobe Reader X) you can go to Help, then click "Check for Updates", and then it will search for any and you can install them.  I think Chrome updates Adobe Flash Player automatically.
My FI's parents aren't computer or tech savvy at all, but they have a lap top.  Whenever something pops up, they won't click on it until they ask my FI about it so they hopefully don't get any viruses.

  • Also, if anyone is a Mac user, there is a great (free!) anti-virus program out there. The first time I ran a full scan of my computer, it picked up 15-20 windows viruses that were just hanging out dormant on my computer because they were a .exe filetype. You never know what new bigbad is going to come out, so be prepared!
