I drove a car!!

I understand that, for a 29yo Canadian, this should not be a huge deal. BUT I had my first in-car driving lesson today, on a standard transmission car, and I drove it, and went on real roads, and made left turns!

And now I'm home drinking wine, hoping my heart rate slows down.

My 30-year-old partner doesn't have a driver's license, so I do think this is pretty awesome! Congrats!!

It does get a LOT easier. I remember the first time I drove a car was down my driveway (not a REALLY long driveway, but long enough!). I was SO nervous the whole time, and after putting the car in park and turning off the engine, I was so relieved to be done. Same with the first time I drove on the highway. It's so weird looking back!

  • Thanks, guys! I moved a while ago to my partner's town, and the transit here is terrible! I miss my subways and 24hr streercars :( But now (well, soon) I'll be able to go further than my bike can take me! Hurray!!

  • My mom did not learn to drive until after I was born and she had no choice if she wanted me to go to daycare. So learning at any age is an accomplishment to be proud of!

    Also, I couldn't ride a bike until I was 20.
