It went eh. They listened, but they say I'm stressing over nothing, and it doesn't feel like it to me but it's whatever.

Well, they don't have to understand your concerns in order for them to be valid and important to you. I think their logic is likely pretty skewed by their own issues. Do what's right for you and your FI, regardless of whether they agree.

That's my thoughts. FI and I are going to talk about it. My mother agreed to charge us rent when we first mentioned it: 50 bucks each, plus helping out with utilities and food, and only because FI SPECIFICALLY asked for her to do that so he didn't feel like a freeloader bum. He knows about the shitstorm that is my family, although they have behaved the few times they've been around him for the most part. I just don't know what I want to do.
