I'm a little stuck on what to wear to FBIL's wedding next weekend (OMG Cookie Pusher your wedding is next weekend too!)

It's at the beach, but everything is inside and very formal.  The dress I thought I was going to wear is now too big.  Yay and boo at the same time.  With Fi's grandpa passing away last week, this was just the last thing I was thinking about and now I have nothing to wear.

I'm leaning strongly toward this one but it's $100.

I also like this dress on Lulu's, for $71.  I'd have to rush it for another $18, making it about the same cost, but I would own it instead of renting.

What do you think?  Should I go with the more formal or more beachy look?

Anywhere else affordable you like to shop online that does rush shipping?  I'm going to the mall tomorrow for unrelated reasons, but I doubt I'll find something there under $100.

  • I like them both.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I love that second one, so colorful and festive! Plus, you can dress it down or up for later use. They're both beautiful, but I lean toward the second.

    out.

  • I like them both, too- although I feel like the first one is much more formal than the 2nd.

  • Yeah it's the formality level that's getting me.  It's a ballroom wedding, BMs in long dresses, etc. so I'm thinking maybe the first one is more event-appropriate.  But I would get a lot of wear out of the second one for other things.

  • I love them both, but I would go with the Lulu's one so you can wear it to the tropics someday.

I agree w/ PP that the first looks very formal.  I always wear cocktail length dresses to weddings.  Our wedding was more formal, the BMs wore long dresses and most younger people wore cocktail length dresses.  If you are going to wear long, I like the 2nd one.
  • I love the first. I'm the type of person who might err in the side of over dressing. But then I just take my hair down and put on flats and wahlah I'm toned down.

    Please be fancy fancy :)

  • OK, so I was leaning toward the first one but I sent both pics to the sister of the groom and she thinks the colorful one is better and more summery.  I also like the idea of owning it and wearing it again for the same price.

    So I'm going with #2!

@Sugargirl1019 the next time I have somewhere fancy to go, I'm renting the heck out of that teal dress!

  • Never mind!  FSIL showed FMIL and they collectively vote the teal one.  :)

Can you tell I'm awful at shopping alone?

Haha well I think its a hot choice :) you can add jewelry to make it go either way. Flower in your hair for beachy theme.

I would buy the second dress because you own it and they're both pretty.

Maybe I will try to find a beachy necklace at the mall tomorrow.

  • I'd totally go for a white hibiscus flower with a low side bun.. Just saying.

Oh, in that case I like the second one.

  • I like dress #2. I say buy that one and dress it up.
  • Darn you for being taller than me, @JCBride2015! I have gorgeous dresses you could wear for a beachy wedding. My favorite is a pale gold tea length chiffon-y dress that has some a satin bow at the waist. But tea length on me would definitely NOT be tea length on you!

Hahaha thanks Cookie.  I'm probably a few sizes bigger than you are, too.  Got anything for a size 6 in that closet? :)  Also, I hope you are experiencing zero wedding drama this week.  Thinking of you.

I was all set to order the second one based on the feedback here (although I think the teal was my personal favorite), but FMIL and FSIL said the teal is more appropriate because the wedding is so formal.  I'll take any excuse to wear a super fancy dress!

Maybe.... I will order Dress #2 anyway.  And just wear it as a maxi dress....

  • Actually, I *do* have some size 6 dresses in my closet. Unfortunately, they are all either winter dresses (velvet floor-length gown with rhinestone accents, tea length velvet dresses, etc.) or mini dresses. You're welcome to the mini dresses, but I can't promise you won't end up flashing the pikachu...

I love that TK has introduced me to this euphemism for lady parts.  I don't want to call my lady parts anything else, ever.

  • What would the male equivalent for pikachu be? I think I was too old to care when Pokemon was the "thing".

I was probably on the tail end of it-- I remember the boys across the street were into Pokemon but I never was.

Ninja Turtle?  that gives a very... specific image.

  • Pikachus and Ninja Turtles. We're all pretty good at etiquette advice, when we're not busy talking about childhood cartoons! lol

  • That green dress omg

I didn't read the post just that green dress

  • I was into pokemon so a male and a female were both pikachu. They never really showed any other pikachus though. I can only think of seeing more than one, in the pokemon movie. But I don't think that counts.

    Squirtle.

(I was also too old, but lil bro was all about it.)

  • Pikachus and Squirtles! I need to figure out how to work those into all wedding-related conversations from now on.

  • I vote charizard. Squirtle makes it sound tiny and ew!

    image   image   image

  • @Sugargirl1019 what is a charizard?  Is that a Pokemon?

I kind of like Squirtle precisely because of the ick factor.  It's funny.
