Hurricane Arthur is screwing up my week

My baby sister is getting married in the Northeast this weekend. Because of Arthur's churning on the coast, our (DH's and my) flights home last night we delayed.  We rescheduled for today only to run into more delays.  So, time to drive!  Yeah, for an unexpected 12+ hours in the car.

I sincerely hope everyone affected by Arthur will be safe and okay, but at this point, he and I aren't ever, ever going to be friends.

Re: Hurricane Arthur is screwing up my week

  • Booh!  I am hoping the only way it affects me is that the BBQ for tomorrow gets cancelled. I will be bummed, but if that's the worst that happens, I'll take it!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • They moved The Pops performance and fireworks to today instead of tomorrow because of Hurricane Arthur.
  • Yup I am moving this weekend (from NH to MA) and not happy at all with the forecast! FML.

  • Ugh.  I'm sorry.   I got married in the middle of a strong tropical storm.  I know how your sister feels.

Drive safe, make sure you have water and snacks just in case you are stuck somewhere.

If anyone else needs hurricane prep info I'm your girl.   Been through a lot of them living in the islands.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I'm right in the storm sadly. We live in NC, not near the obx but in the albemarle sound soooo things aren't looking too pretty. We were suppose to start our honeymoon tomorrow, but now we're going to leave today after work. Needless to say, as my hurricane warning buzzed my phone this morning at 5am I started packing for our honeymoon. Soooo off to Williamsburg a day early! Monday through next Sunday will be at VA Beach so hopefully it doesn't affect that.  We've never lived down here during a hurricane, but the fact they are already closing up Dare County (OBX) and telling people they must leave means I'm getting the heck outta here. At least, we're going to have bad winds and storm. At most, the hurricane may go right through my town...

That sucks when mother nature interferes with all the plans.

My daughter was married, in CT, during Hurricane Sandy. Many of our New Jersey guests had to cancel last minute. They served SILs favorite drink, Hurricanes, as their signature cocktail with a complete open bar. The guests that showed up had a ball. Once we were settled at the reception, no one wanted to leaved. My brother's husband is from the Dominican Republic. He told my daughter that getting married during a hurricane is very fortunate luck. Also, drinking lots of rum is good luck ; ) I love that guy.

Please be safe. Take your time on the road and keep updated on the weather situation. Wishing your sister a wonderful, exciting wedding day.

  • Ugh, Hurricanes suck. I am very glad we don't get them here.... we did, however, get a torential downpour over the weekend which wiped out the only bridge leading to my new school so I can't prep anything in my new classroom before the wedding/honeymoon. Yaaaay. A former colleague is currently sandbagging like crazy at her place too because she lives by the lake and several dams were wiped out with the rain too. Some people may end up losing their houses at the rate the water is rising. There were kids canoeing in one of the towns. Fuck storms and fuck rain!

    Stay safe!

  • I am in Michigan so Arthur isn't coming to visit.

Do heed Lynda's advice about being careful and having snacks and water in the car.  Do everything you can to stay safe - far more important than even your sister's wedding.

I do pray you have a safe trip and that your sister comes out of this with the same outlook Lynda has about her wedding.  Best of luck to you all.
  • I am in NYC- the rain right now is out of control. Be safe!

  • OP- Be safe, will your sisters wedding be affected at all?

@melbelleup- have a safe trip and have a fabulous honeymoon!

@sarahufl, I got caught in the rain around 7 after I left happy hour and was a block from home. I was soaking wet. Now it's back with a vengeance.

My parents were supposed to leave this evening or tomorrow morning for their vacation to South Carolina. They are driving, I really hope this doesn't ruin their trip.

  • Thankfully, the weather is supposed to be great tomorrow. We're up in the air on the rehearsal tonight since the venue is outside and it's supposed to shower throughout the afternoon.

  • We had to postpone our wedding because of hurricane Sandy, I get it.  It sucks, but it's not the end of the world.  Have fun!
  • Thanks all!  Sis's wedding was thankfully not anywhere in the path of Arthur, and DH and I wound up having a really decent road trip.  A lot of construction since it's summer in the Northeast, but we got there.

And my sister was a beautiful bride!  Her dress fit her like a glove, she smiled all day and now I have a new brother-in-law!

  • We had one day of our honeymoon messed up by "near hurricane strength post-tropical storm Arthur" (as he was known by the time he made it to Maine/Canada). Woke up to no power, and had to drive way out of our way to our next stop because we couldn't take the ferries we had planned on. Worried for a little while because we couldn't find a place to use the restroom and get gas! All in all, the biggest disappointment was that we didn't have power at the next bed and breakfast either, so I couldn't soak in the whirlpool tub like I had been looking forward to so much!
