We Found a Baby Bunny Yesterday!

edited August 2014 in Chit Chat
So, my FI was mowing our front yard yesterday and he yelled for me to come outside and there was a TINY baby brown bunny in the driveway!  He had mowed near a bush in the yard and the baby bunny ran out.  He was clearly terrified.  He was so little, like a potato.  I put on some work gloves and picked him up (couldn't resist!) and put him in an ice chest with a ramekin of water and a few carrot peels.  He stayed in the corner of the ice chest (with his little nose in the corner like he was in time out) the entire time.  When my FI was done mowing, we put him back under the bush.  I hope his momma comes back for him.  We didn't see any other babies, but we see rabbits & other creatures in our yard all the time.

Ok, I can't make the picture show up, but THIS is EXACTLY what the bunny looked like.

Sharing Insight Photo: Brown Baby Wild Bunny #1...about to be released into the wild

ETA:  these aren't my pictures - these are from a google image search.  But they look JUST like the bunny we found.
  • @scribe95 i wore gloves and never touched it with my skin or held it to my body (even tho i wanted to cuddle it SO bad!!) so i hope it didn't smell too human-y.  :(
  • So cute! We have a baby bunny who was born under our lounge chair on the back patio. He's been there for a few months. We put out water for him and occasionally some spinach. We never saw the mom. I hope yours survives like ours did!

  • Ditto scribe on the human scent and keeping an eye on it the next couple days. The mom might not come back because of this.

If that happens, contact your local animal rescue. Bunnies are pretty common, so they'll probably either take it and have someone foster it, or guide you on fostering it. There are special types of bottles and stuff.
