Tables numbers--AW (and a ?)

FI and I finally got around to making our table "numbers" today! We've had the idea and frames for awhile and today we accomplished the task. They came out even better than I thought they would. Question: should I still put an actual number on them (like in the corner or on top) somewhere? I don't want people to get confused. The escort cards could have the movie name on them or a number. We may make an actual seating chart 'map,' too, that shows where the tables are located and who is at each table. Or is that overkill and I'm overthinking all this 12 days before?

Re: Tables numbers--AW (and a ?)

  • I love them! But yes, I would still put a number on them somewhere. It's a lot easier to find a table when there are numbers.

I think a map would just be 1) a pain to make and 2) not as helpful as just having numbers somewhere.

  • These look awesome!!

I think the map is a good idea, but I'd still use numbers also. We went to a wedding for a couple who loves to travel and they had flags on each table - no map, no numbers - in a huge, auditorium type venue with lots of stairs and tables on various levels. It took us about 20 minutes to find our table and we were super annoyed by the time we did.

  • Numbers will help, unless each table is decorated differently so it's very obvious. At a friend's wedding, each table was a different book. Each table then had decorations related to that book. (The Beauty and the Beast table had red roses, mirrors, teapots. The Last Unicorn table had unicorn plushes and glass pebbles.) They didn't need numbers, but they also only had 6 tables total.

  • I think they need numbers, too... FI is convinced it will ruin the aesthetic of the way they look. Perhaps a quick trip to a craft store will give me ideas. Maybe if he sees it, he'll get that it's fine (and very helpful!)
  • I would definitely add a number. Makes it so much easier to find your table. I'd get cutout wooden numbers, spray paint them glossy white, and glue them to the frame itself in the upper right corner. Won't take away from the movie posters themselves, but will look like they're part of the frame.

  • Those look awesome! We didn't have numbers on ours. However, our table numbers were on tall stands so they were about a foot above the tabletop and each sign was faced towards the entrance for high visibility.

  • We used table numbers.  We had three photo frames and used the middle one for the numbers because we thought some of our older guests would be really confused.  I attached some photos.  Not the best views, but enough to get the point across.

We used photos of New York City landmarks. Each table had a photo, with the name of the landmark and the number. The escort cards had the same photo on them, with the person's name and the table number. For whatever reason, I can't upload a photo but I will keep trying :) I think ours looked great.

Can't seem to find a shot of the escort card, but I used one of the standard sized Avery templates. I think the photo was 1 inch square.

  • OH OH OH!!! With the movie theater theme: could you do it like they're playing on different screens? So like list Screen 6: Goodfellas on your chart, and then do the glossy white 6 in the corner like Lolo said.

    Great idea.

I prefer numbers on tables.  But playing a game of picture match like sara did would be fun.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I would at least but a big "Harry Potter" somewhere so people don't have to get out their glasses and peer at each of the little signs (which are very cute, BTW).

  • Oh, and maybe if you do numbers or something to make it easier for people to find the tables, perhaps you could add a totally separate sign or something so it doesn't "ruin" the pictures you have there, like your FI is worried about?  For example, they have stand alone numbers or letters that you could put on the table:

Or have something stick out of the top of the frames, kind of like this number coming out of the vases just to show what I mean:

Also, I liked Inkdancer's idea of the Screen numbers.

  • Here is the compromise. The numbers are there (picture and number on each side), just smaller than what I wanted. I wanted bigger, he wanted smaller or non existent, so we did our best. :-) The number and movie will be listed on the escort card, as well. I love that we did this project together. It was so much fun picking the movies and the "minimalist" movie posters to go with them! And it was cheap! (Thanks $0.99 ikea frames!)
  • Those are lovely!

I love @Inkdancer's idea too. We would definitely need numbers at our tables in addition to the pictures- we have a lot of much older guests who would have a hard time without them.
