Why the hell not? E-Ring broken by jeweler!

Got my e-ring back from Kay. They broke a fucking prong and didn't tell me! I got it home last night and was looking it over again and noticed. I called them right away and they said there was nothing they could do until I come back into their store. So now I have to make another trip. I am so pissed and I really don't want to send my ring with them again. Would it be reasonable to request that they cut me a check for the damage and then take it to a place that I trust for the repair?

  • I think so. .. I don't really like them. We had issues with them before we even bought from them. We requested to have a ring in to see it before we bought it and first it never got ordered, then delayed and we ended up buying my ering from Jared's.

And they have been nothing but great to me. They always redip my ring on site and within the day. I bought FI's wedding gift (a watch ) and had it engraved and they told me it would be ready today, and it was ready yesterday. I know some people have issues the Jared, but I have always loved them.

  • You will probably get more headaches than its worth trying to ask them for money to fix it. I would probably just get it repaired by them. Make sure everything is fine when you get it back and don't ever go there again. Find a local jeweler to service your ring from now on and get your ring insured under your home owner's policy.
  • FI got my ring at a family run store in Iowa, so I used Kay because I did not want to ship my ring a state away. I am so so so pissed.

  • @OliveOilsMom--I didn't even think about insurance. I have my ring insured already. Should this be something I report to the insurance company?

@SaraBrideSoon Your insurance probably won't cover this.  I thought maybe your FI purchased the ring at Kay's and that is why you went there.  In your situation, I would have Kay fix it now and make sure you are not charged.  If in the future, anything else happens, yes call your insurance company first.  But since you know Kay is at fault, the insurance company will probably just go through Kay to get it fixed anyway.  Ask co-workers or friends about local jeweler recommendations.
