  • If you don't want the hair to become darker/thicker or damage your skin the best thing to do is shave because it has no affect under the skin whatsoever if you want something more permanent then there is electrolysis which is more of an investment but is permanent.  Other options all have up and down sides to them.

Shaving-cuts hair at the skin, has to be done more often then other methods but is quick.

Waxing/Plucking-longer lasting results but due to the trauma at the follicle when it comes back it will be darker/thicker.

Bleaching-lightens hair but can also affect the colour of your skin making it very noticeable that you did something.

Remover Creams-Breaks down the hair above the skin but your hair is stronger than your skin so it can do some damage and burns (has happened to me trust me not fun).

Electrolysis-Cauterizes the blood supply in the follicle so that the hair has no food supply then it can't grow.

Hope this helps with your decision.
This is a complete myth. Any damage to the follicle will only cause the hair to not grow back at all, not make the hair grow back thicker. How would damaging cells cause them to create a stronger product??

If the blood supply at the base of follicle is permanently damaged then yes it can lead to no future hair growth but the trauma sends a rush of blood to the area to help it heal.  Blood feeds the hair so by sending a rush of it to the damaged follicle it can increase hair growth of not only that follicle but the ones around it.
But that blood flow doesn't change the inherent makeup of your hair; that's determined by your genetics. You can't make hairs grow thicker or darker aside from something dramatic like chemo. Hairs that grow back may appear darker than others because they hasn't been exposed to sun yet, but the hair itself is the same as it always has been. My arm hair changes color over the course of the year because my hair naturally lightens in the sun, but the inherent, original color of it always remains the same. As new hairs grow in to replace those that naturally shed, they're back to being the natural, darker color.

Blood is the food supply for hair at the base of the follicle,  so an increase in blood can increase the thickness of the hair.  I don't mean in a completely noticeable way (I'm talking even microscopic) just that thicker hair appears darker.

Blood supply and hormones can affect hair growth.  This is what I was taught throughout my courses to be come a certified electrologist so that is what I am going to stick to.

  • Considering my facial hair is black, I wouldn't notice if it came in darker anyway. Can't get much darker than black. ;)

I've been shaving it, but it's such a pain, and it grows back really fast. I might try the Sally Hansen or Nair (for the face).

    Thanks!

    SITB:

Just a note of warning.  My skin doesn't always like Nair.  If you've never used it before I would try it on a small area away from your face.  Just to be safe.  =)

  • Nail makes my skin blister, I'd be scared to put it on my face.

I get my threaded when I go to get my eyebrows done.

  • I laser that shit. Each appointment takes 5 minutes, and after 6-12 (it was 8 for me) you only have to go back once a year or so. And those appointments cost a lot less.

  • I used to just shave but then I bought a Groupon for laser hair removal. Its worked pretty well for my armpit hair and so so for my upper lip. I still have a couple more sessions so we will see what the end result is.

Definitely test a small spot and check often....trust me I had a lovely triangle of chemical burn/missing skin between my eyebrows and it hurt so bad.

It works best with thicker dark hair.  It doesn't work as well on blondes/redheads or fine hair.  I'm dying to get my bikini area done.  Add that to my wishlist of 5,000 unnecessary things I want.

Noted. I have sensitive skin and tons of allergies, so I'll patch-test it. :)
  • My ladystahe is coming in, thanks mom! I shave it in front of Fi to remind him I'm a real person and not the goddess he thinks I am. (;
