I am no Florence Nightingale

DH is sick.  I just have no patience when he is sick.      Like none.

He is just so whiny but will not go to the doctor or do anything of the suggested things to improve the symptoms.   GRRR..

On another note my throat is scratchy and nose is a little runny.  I will be pissed if he gave me something.

I was telling my sister how much I want to throw H out of our apartment when he is sick. He is so whiny and annoying. When I had hand, foot and mouth a few weeks ago (http://forums.theknot.com/discussion/1040623/hand-foot-mouth-disease#latest), I was miserable. Last week, he woke up with a sore throat and ONE bug bite on his hand and he insisted he also had it. For an entire week he laid around the apartment moaning and groaning but never went to a doctor, never took anything. He was intolerable. He even skipped going to Boston for a wedding of a really good friend of mine because of it. I was really mad! Sick men are the worst.

  • 1. You guys should both drink Emergen-C packets (or the generic kind). You can find them almost anywhere. They're powder you mix with any kind of drink (I use water) and has 1,000 milligrams of vitamin C plus a bunch of other vitamins. They seriously help, a TON.

    2. My FI is exactly the same way. Last winter he was so sick for over three weeks and finally went to the dr after I threatened to call his mother. Turns out he had bronchitis AND strep throat, and it was so bad that they had to give him an inhaler plus the antibiotics and stuff. Ugh.

  • I swear Men turn into whiny sissies when they are sick. When FI was sick a few months ago, his MOTHER texted me "Please make my baby some chicken soup, because he's sick." EXCUSE ME? First of all, he's a grown ass man, not your "baby",and he has a minor cold, not tuberculosis. He can make his own damn self some soup.

Not that I don't take care of him when he is sick, but after I work a long work week, I'm not going to rush home to make him home made chicken noodle soup, which is a PITA to make from scratch. Especially for a minor cold.  I'm pretty sure I got takeout that night.

The boy went to the Texas A&M game. His 40-something-year-old-self partied for 4 days like a 20-something year old rock star. The man is not a water drinker so lord knows he was not hydrated.

Then he comes home. Higher elevations also cause dehydration, especially to someone who doesn't like to drink water. He has all the classic signs of dehydration. All of them. But instead of loading up on electrolytes to hydrate he just whines. I'm pretty sure he is past the fix-it-home phase onto the IV stage.

He just called the doctor. They can't take him and said to go to the after-hour place. The one that does not open for another 3 hours.

  • Ugh, that's horrible. Is he at least drinking water while he waits for the place to open?

  • The thing that bugs me the most is that H always asks me what I think he should do.

"Should I go to work?" "Should I go to Boston with you for your friend's wedding?" "Do you think I am contagious?"

Ugh. You are 35. I am not here to think for you/make your decisions. Be a man.

Not really.  He is in the nothing is staying down phase.

I'm not a doctor, so he could have the flu or something.  But I've seen him severely dehydrated before and he seems to look the same as in the past.

FI came home from a week-long conference a few days ago, at which he and his work buddies did a ton of drinking every night. He kept telling me he had ebola because he felt so shitty, and he kept taking the thermometer out to check his temperature, which was normal every time. I don't know how many times I told him he was just dehydrated, he did not have the symptoms of ebola (I think he was mostly joking about this except at one point he seemed convinced he really had it because his connecting flight was through Dallas), and that he needed to drink a ton of water and/or Gatorade. And if he really felt so bad, he should stop whining and just go to the dr. Well, he kept whining and blowing his symptoms out of proportion. Then last night he went and played soccer, so apparently he's fine. Although when he got home from soccer he was "too sick" to help me with the laundry. Lemme tell ya....

    Funny how that happens.

Good news the doctor called, they had a cancellation so I will take him in an hour.  Because you know, he is not well enough to drive.

  • I feel your pain.  I have a whiny SO recovering from gall bladder removal last week.  We have some weak Tylenol 1's which he is taking very sparingly and he was on some stronger stuff, but he ran out.  He was told if he wanted more to go to the doctor.  Sigh, but no, he prefers to be in pain and make it very well known.

I'm sure it isn't the flu.  There is no such thing as a stomach flu, and the real flu doesn't have stomach problems as a symptom.  (I am not a doctor!!)

I had a horrible nothing-would-stay-down-for-a-week sickness, ended up in the ER, and they still couldn't tell me what it was.  But they did give me IV fluids which helped a lot, so that's not a bad idea if he's as bad off as it sounds like!

Hope he feels better soon.  For himself and for your sanity :)

  • He got an IV and some anti-nausea pills. Doctor is not sure what is going on but there is a stomach virus going around. He did just have some soup, hoping it stays down.

  • I hope for his sake that he does not have Norovirus like I did last year. That shit is evil. I had nothing but Pedialyte for a week.

  • He isn't doing too well.   The doctor asked us to wait until noon before coming back in.  Poor guy hasnt' kept anything down in 37 hours.

  • Thank you for asking.

He is still having problems.  I feel he should have gone back to the doctor for another IV.  He wants to wait till tomorrow.     He is an adult so I can't make him go.

I had the worse night sleep last night.  I have a feeling tonight will not be much better.  I might just sleep on the couch.

On a semi-related topic.  His GM is awesome.  We saw her the other day near a store while she was looking for a gif for a member. DH mentioned a blanket he really liked that she should get this member.   The GM called me today to see how DH was doing.  A few hours later she showed up with the blanket so he could coddle.  They are just so damn sweet there.   No only that she told me that she does not want to see DH at worked until next week.   I'm sure he will go in earlier, but it's nice to know they care about his health.

  • Ugh. Sorry Your DH is still feeling like crap (and hope it takes a turn for the better soon)…but that's awesome that the club is so thoughtful!
